Gender Criticals - how are you going to vote in the election?

ProfessorFlitwick · 27/11/2023 11:02

My political views are centre-left. I am genuinely unsure how to vote in the next election because I am absolutely not voting for any party that supports harmful woke ideology. I am curious to hear how other GCs are thinking of voting next year?

I can say with confidence that there were significant numbers in the Labour party who hated being in power last time. To be fair, I don't think Starmer is one of them.

Maerchentante · 28/11/2023 10:06

I'm really not sure who to vote for next time around. Last time it was LD and we voted our Tory MP out, only for him to be made Lord by BJ.

But now, not sure. Should I still be in the same constituency one of the candidates might be one S J Baker, who I will most certainly not vote for. After all, this person wants to "punch me in the f...ing face".

In fact the longer this shit show with labour goes on, the more I think they just dont want to be in power.

I've thought this for a while. It's a lot easier to be the opposition than sort out our country's many irreconcilable problems.

I live in a borough (a very big one) that went from Tory to Labour last year. The big difference is we now have a Pride and local councillors are more or less in hiding. Labour councillors used to be all over social media and in the community agitating for change and improvements to services. Now it's them in charge, they look horrified and confused every time a voter approaches them.

😂 I bet. Pretty much sums up how it will go

This is not really a difficult decision to make. Give some tiny fuck about women, or keep on with the twaw line.
Let's face it, all us women would be super happy if they just dropped twaw, we would likely vote en mass for labour, landslide victory and all. Labour could at this moment even leave in all the errant nonsense about gaza/benefits/that shit about saving the NHS and more. Just this tiny crumb would see them through to victory.
Yet this close to the election and still they wang on about 99.9% and safe spaces. So sad for them.

I don't think they want to be in power either.

Who'd want to run the country when they can get paid what by most people's standards is a very decent salary to sit on the opposition benches repeating meaningless mantras and shouting about how awful the nasty Tories are?

Starmer was only elected to parliament in 2015 so his only experience is being in opposition.

I write to my Labour MP frequently. I keep a tally of how many times I've written and how many responses I've had. It's quite the ratio. She also refuses to meet with me.

I bumped into her a few weeks ago and spoke to her briefly. Mentioned that Labour are making it very hard to want to vote for them over the conflict between women's & trans rights. Her response, "do you really think you've got a choice?"

That arrogance alone is why I will vote Conservative. It's a safe Labour seat, but she lost half of her majority at the last election, the neighbouring constituency went Conservative. I appreciate this was Brexit related and there won't be that influence this time, but it shows people are not as fixed as they'd like to think.

I'll still be poor no matter who is in government and my Labour MP clearly doesn't give a shiny shit.

Wow, she said the quiet part out loud.

FKATondelayo · 28/11/2023 10:52

I will vote for ANY party who picks one thing and says we're going to sort it out.

There are too many Big Issues to resolve that are really hard and by trying to deal with all of them nothing will get done except twiddling around the edges. Pick ONE, Starmer. The NHS, housing, wage deflation, environment, transport, inward investment, crime. Whatever. Just one.

That's how the Tories won in 2019. They had one manifesto promise (Get Brexit Done) and they delivered.

TrainedByCats · 28/11/2023 11:01

I’m a naturally labour voter who is going to be voting Tory for an MP I would never have believed I’d vote for. It’s a conservative seat targeted by Lib Dem’s and there’s not a chance I’d risk LD getting a seat they are all too ready to throw women under the bus and I’ve never forgotten them being proud of trading away disability rights to get a token green policy through when in coalition.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/11/2023 11:13

Is Baker allowed to stand as a convicted criminal out on licence and recently recalled?

This is a really good point. At the moment it's about the Tories losing support, rather than Labour winning it.

I'm reading through this thread this morning and nodding and sighing. One thing always strikes me about that prick Russell-Moyle: he was/is a big Corbynista, so no mate of Starmer's, far from it. Every justification for giving him a loud and public bollocking. But no, he's rather say nothing, and throw Rosie Duffield under the bus instead. And as for Fortuna's MP... that just crystallises everything that's wrong with Labour, doesn't it?

irishmurdoch · 28/11/2023 11:46

I'm in Brighton and have always voted Green but was planning to spoil my ballot for the first time. If Eddie Izzard gets selected there's no way I could vote Labour, not even if keeping the Tories out depended on it. However, I've heard that the person going up against him (Tom Gray?) has made it clear he's GC, even if he's not sticking his head, too far over the parapet on it. So I'm now wondering whether it's better to try to get as many GC Labour MPs in as we can, and hope that the dial slowly starts to shift?

lordloveadog · 28/11/2023 11:48

I'd vote for a GC Labour candidate if one stood in my constituency.

teawamutu · 28/11/2023 11:49

I see that Labour has just appointed another TWAWer, Ashley Dalton, to the Women and Equalities brief.

Unless she's changed her tune significantly, that's not a good sign.

Floisme · 28/11/2023 11:53

I would vote for a GC Labour candidate too, but only if they were public about it. If they won't stick their neck out now then I don't trust them to stand up to a party whip.

Yes I saw that too.

I always get the impression that actually governing would get in the way of their political purity. Far better to shout from the sidelines as to why everyone else is wrong, than to be in government and be found wanting.

gnarlynarwhal · 28/11/2023 12:52

Honestly stuck on this one. I have a daughter and I don’t like the persistent push by certain groups to erase the word women and make people scared to express opinions based on biological facts for fear of being persecuted or losing their jobs. On the other hand I think the Tory party are awful. I’m considering spoiling my ballot paper in all honestly because I feel politically homeless.

gnarlynarwhal · 28/11/2023 12:57

MargotBamborough · 28/11/2023 08:32

It's astounding to me and I've never even voted Labour before. This would have been the first time.

I haven’t voted for them before either and this was going to be my first time but as a mum to a little girl I just don’t think I could bring myself to do so.

boudiccathecat · 28/11/2023 13:23

Yep I’m a floating voter, and I’ll vote for women’s rights.

LlynTegid · 28/11/2023 13:48

I will not vote Conservative as they have done more harm to women, even when not led by the misogynist Mr Johnson, than the alternatives have done or will do.

limefrog · 28/11/2023 18:03

Winnading · 28/11/2023 07:36

This is the only issue to me. Without knowing who is a woman, everything else falls apart.

You vote however you want, but I will vote for womens rights and freedoms. If that requires holding my nose, then I'll do that. You say I've no perspective, I say you dont care enough.

It's not as important as life and death issues, like climate change.

Regardless of that though, it's important to look at how parties are actually proposing to address an issue, rather than just whether or not they have the same opinion.

The Tories might well have more gender critical people in their party, but what are they actually proposing to do to support young people struggling with gender dysphoria? Very little, I expect.

SidewaysOtter · 28/11/2023 18:16

It's not as important as life and death issues, like climate change.

You do not have the right to tell anyone else what they should find important.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/11/2023 19:16

It's not as important as life and death issues, like climate change.

Go and tell the Green Party in both Scotland and England and Wales that, I think you'll find climate change is distinctly second to the first world problems of people's "identities".
