He's not posted on twitter for a few days, hope he's chillaxing and not unwell or banned again

NotTerfNorCis · 23/11/2023 17:07

I have Glinner's book on my wish list. Hope to get it for Christmas. :)

Slothtoes · 23/11/2023 18:18

YABVU. I don’t think anyone should be policing anyone else’s response to the shit that TRAs have put them through. Why the fuck should people not talk about it? even if nothing has happened to them personally but people just want to talk about what they’ve heard about what’s been happening to Glinner or JKR or KJK or Maria at Speakers’ Corner or Helen Steele or Raquel Rosario Sanchez or Kathleen Stock or Allison Bailey or the Girl Guide leaders or the women members of the Labour Party or anyone on the list that goes on way way longer than I can type for.

…. Please DO keep talking about these people and the threats and intimidation and losses that they have faced simply for not lying to command. Talk about it everywhere you can. It’s completely unacceptable in any civilised democracy.

If you personally couldn’t give a shit about anyone else’s human experience, that is your absolute choice not to. But talking about what is happening to people who put their head over the parapet is a key argument in revealing the authoritarian horror behind #bekind and today’s gender identity ideology. Hearing about it first hand from people who have experienced it is even more powerful. I’m wondering why anyone would want to stop that.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 23/11/2023 18:44

Eh? Who was that directed at, Slothtoes?

Slothtoes · 23/11/2023 18:55

Was referring to posters at top of thread saying that Glinner was going on too much now about his cancellation and threats experience.
While he’s publicising a book he’s written about.. his cancellation and threats experience. A book which is getting reviews and attention and bringing sunlight, which helps everyone

TheCadoganArms · 23/11/2023 18:59

He has been very busy lately with his book launch and a raft of TV and radio appearances. Would not be surprised if he taking a few days off.

Georgeburgess · 24/11/2023 02:26

I hope he's OK. Glinner was an extremely successful and publicly adored person who lost everything as a result of trans ideology. Kjk was an unknown housewife who has gained a career and massive public recognition as a result of trans ideology. Its a complete joke to compare the two. FWR has become a ridiculous shrine to kjk, with the same posters repeating how stunning and brave she is.

I think he can be allowed a bit of a break. We all need to get some relief from the relentlessness of it all sometimes.

This. No doubt writing and publishing the book and having so many people talking about it has been difficult emotionally regardless of how successful it has been

ComfyBoobs · 24/11/2023 07:42

SilverBranchGoldenPears · 22/11/2023 10:48

I do see your point but I don’t think KJK lost her career, her spouse, a majority of her friends through doing her activism work. I mean I could be wrong, but from what I can tell.

Graham lost everything to fight for a cause which as a man he could easily say, ‚ain’t got skin in the game. Not my circus.‘ and bowed out. He didn’t.

i think he’s allowed some self-reflection and empathy.

How he’s treated is also highly relevant to the central issue. The threats, bullying, cancelation etc are all central to the TRA strategy designed to ensure that we all swallow men in women’s spaces without putting our heads above the parapet.

elgreco · 24/11/2023 07:48

I got his book for my birthday. Think I will buy it for my dad fir Christmas. I hope he is doing well.

saraclara · 24/11/2023 08:47

To be honest, I think people should be more worried about him posting constantly, than him being absent.

If you genuinely care about the man, you wouldn't see his constant presence on Twitter and amount of posting as healthy.
I'd love to see him take a month off and focus on his mental health. The fact that him being quiet for 24 hours has people commenting, speaks for itself.

Catsanfan · 26/11/2023 06:58

He is very much back

Asurvivor · 26/11/2023 07:45

I only became aware of this issue late compared to many on this board, so am still at the astonishment phase that in our democratic part of the world where free speech is supposed to be a fundamental right, that we have this ideology that has been introduced without real debate or discussion and the proponents of it try to silence and exclude people from society if they don’t agree with it.

I think the way that such a talented writer has been treated is appalling, someone who brought laughter to many people and still does (I still watch old IT Crowd episodes on You tube, just love the bomb disposal one), and who happened to speak out when he saw some crazy stuff going on and then refused to back down unlike many other well-known people. I find it totally astonishing that the Father Ted musical was cancelled and still won’t be put on because he disagrees with trans ideology - given it is just a belief system - and we are not in Russia or North Korea! I can imagine that this has had a huge personal cost for him (a bit like anyone in Russia or North Korea disagreeing with the party?)

I hope that one day when this is all over, he gets something back for being shunned in this way - not sure what, but at least his talent recognised and appreciated through a successful Father Ted mysical.

IwantToRetire · 28/11/2023 18:04

From the thread about Rosie Duffield its clear that when needed he is more than able to speak up.

He has written a great letter to the Labour Party https://grahamlinehan.substack.com/p/my-letter-to-the-labour-party

Cuppateanow · 07/12/2023 01:20

He has done a couple of excellent videos in the last few days.

Flufferblub · 09/12/2023 00:31

I must have been living under a rock. I had no idea he'd been "cancelled". Just been listening to some of his book. I'm not on twitter, so I don't know what's been going on with him.

IwantToRetire · 09/12/2023 00:54

I'm not on twitter, so I don't know what's been going on with him.

But if you are on this forum (FWR @ mumsnet) you most have seen over more than a few years the number of threads about what he has been put through.

When he was really cancelled he even posted on here!

IwantToRetire · 09/12/2023 00:58

But maybe you haven't been on this forum so here are some of the threads about him!

He's a great man to stand up for what he believes in.

I too have a signed copy of his book.
Thanks Graham (if you're lurking )

Flufferblub · 09/12/2023 03:48

Thanks for the thread links. I have been around on Mumsnet, but just not the right threads I guess. Have always been a fan of his work and sad about what he's been through

MsGoodenough · 09/12/2023 08:18

I find what has happened to Glinner so sad. I think he moved in such 'progressive' circles that his whole social, family and professional networks deserted him. KJK is in a totally different situation as I assume her friends and family either agree with her or are happy to agree to differ. Right on comedians and TV and theatre execs are not.

Why - I'm not on twitter and dont want to be.

but many well known and unknown people are and seem to spend all day tweeting.

Or are you presuming to say everyone on twitter is suffering some sort of ill health?

Are you a trained doctor or mental health professional?

Maybe you should set up a campaign and like gamblers annonymous asked X and tiktok to automatically block anyone who posts what, more than 5 times a day, 2 times a day, or only once?

Flufferblub · 12/12/2023 16:45

Just finished listening to his book and I enjoyed it.

I've learnt that I have the right to believe in biology. I don't agree with giving children puberty blockers or surgery. Once a person is over 18, I have no issue with what hormones they want to take or what surgery they want to put themselves through.

I don't agree with m to f trans people in female sports, or female safe spaces.

I don't agree with m to f trans people calling themselves lesbians and using lesbian apps as a woman.

I don't agree with ruining someone's life and career because of their beliefs or opinions. I don't agree with sending any one abuse, death threats or rape threats.

Everyone has the right to be safe, and live their life as an adult how they wish to, with free expression. But not at the cost of harm to others, or harm to women.

I think that's it really. They're the conclusions I've came to.

Well if that's as a result of his book, would say that's the most amazing rcommendation!
