Pro-Palestine Trans rights activists chant at Leeds Let Women Speak

I have been without internet acess until a few hours ago, and so didn't watch today's live stream - so this headline makes it sound like yet again women were being told they had not right to speak.

Pro-Palestine Trans rights activists stormed a women’s rights demonstration in Leeds, with reports of chants about Israel.

The Let Women Speak gathering has been taking place in Park Square, Leeds city centre, this afternoon (Saturday, November 18). At about 12.45pm, a pro-Palestine/Trans rights group descended on the event.

The feminist Let Women Speak group calls for rights to sex-segregated spaces and its protest is unrelated to the Israel-Gaza war.

As for the rest… I struggle to comprehend that level of stupidity & indeed that level of raging hatred. As a combination it’s highly dangerous.

I also have incredible second-hand embarrassment: just imagine proudly publicly parading your ignorance & intolerance like the TRAs?! I suppose it explains how they believe all the “most vulnerable” codswallop: turns out they’re in permanent Opposite Day mode. Trying to directly align themselves with the Palestinian people who are suffering so horrifically at the moment really is a new low in the Oppression Olympics.

Obviously if they’re announcing their plans to finally avail themselves of the sea, that is delightful & they should crack on. They’re not though. Yet again they’ve shown up to threaten women for daring to to talk about the fact they are a discrete group who have rights. This time around they’re casually threatening a spot of mass-murder. I’m sure they’d say they totally don’t mean that. They just want to drive these women from their homes, occupations, & local support networks - totally reasonable. And obviously it wouldn’t involve any baseball bats wrapped in barbed-wire or anything.

I wonder how many of them could tell you which river it is they’re chanting away about when in reference to Yorkshire. Without Googling, I mean.

This particular one just made it obvious how bloody stupid these people actually are.

I was at Leeds LWS yesterday and I disagree with the article: there was no 'storming' at all.

The police did their job well (thank you, WYP) and kept us separate. We were in one corner of the square (which is enclosed by iron railings) and the Mob were diagonally opposite and, as far as I could see, on the street outside the railings. Lots of police, including a horse or two. For me, 'storming' would involve the mixing of the two groups.

The Mob made their usual noise and chanted mindless slogans. I'd be interested to know which sea they were chanting about (as if their geography is that good!). The river will be the Aire, but is it the North Sea or the Irish sea? No idea.

Plus, we were a rally and they were the protest.

That manages to be both stupid and offensive.

Par for the course, then.

The meeting itself was great tho and online sound excellent.

This chant makes no sense at all. The Jordan runs north - south parallel to the Mediterranean coast whereas rivers in Yorkshire run west - east into the North Sea. And which river is meant ? The Aire , Tees , Humber?

Of course it could be the Mersey and they propose to annex Lancashire!

I was going to make the very same point, explaining that the geomorphology of the region, resulting from rock faults, means that the rivers run broadly West to East.

It's always puzzled me why they call feminists Nazis. For the era the Nazis were very supportive of trans rights- especially when you compare to their treatment of every other minority.

(to be clear- there was a law against cross dressing and some people were charged under it but they were almost all either non-aryan or disabled. Transvestitism amongst party members and the military was widely tolerated, more so than in allied countries)

They are consistent, the most gay-friendly country in the Middle East is Israel, and Hamas are back by Iran (a country where homosexuality is illegal and all gay people are heavily pressurised to change sex, and a country where women's rights couldn't get any lower).

Since it's the River Aire that runs through Leeds, I'm going to stick with my assumption that it's that one that the numpties were chanting about. it all just sounds good and feels nice to parrot and seem to be words with power that they've heard other people using. That's as far as any thought has gone. It's not supposed to stand up to actual thinking or facts or reality.

Really might as well have your toddler shouting about everything's made out of poo, it's about the same level. Feels nice and powerful, not much going on between the ears at the time.
