How the trans row will end in compromise

Sorry, I can't do a sharetoken at the moment, but this is a comment by Kenny Farquharson in the Times. I don' think he understands the issue.

And surely that claim below is wrong, or is that a different judgment where some judge claimed that sex didn't necessarily mean biological sex?

"Dorrian upheld an earlier judgment that trans women should be treated the same way as biological women under legislation to improve gender balance on the boards of public agencies. She rejected the argument that this was incompatible with the Equality Act in which, she accepted, “sex” meant biological sex."

How the trans row will end in compromise

Lady Dorrian has offered a necessary middle way on a debate that is scarring public discourse

As a man, my view on the definition of woman is necessarily as an outsider. Having accepted this, I am still entitled to a circumscribed view, which I pose as a question: surely womanhood in all its glory is capacious enough, generous enough, diverse enough, to accommodate and perhaps even to welcome a small number of people who did not start life’s journey as women?

No.

Much as he goes on to talk about the need for safeguarding from predators and compromise from the trans lobby, the identity of women is not up for debate. We have had to fight so, so hard over the centuries for our rights, our freedoms, our safeties and our equality. We are entitled to claim our womanhood for us and us alone.

We don’t need a man to tell us why we should budge up.

Igneococcus · 14/11/2023 20:17

Also, not a single mention of transmen.

Christ alive. What a pompous prick.

lifeturnsonadime · 14/11/2023 20:28

What I want to know is why this man doesn't accept the tiny minority of males who claim to be women as men. Surely manhood in all it's glory can accept gender non conforming males in its fold? Or is it just women who are forced to 'be kind'?

Me or him? 😉

Froodwithatowel · 14/11/2023 20:30

Ah. A man has decided what women must do to benefit other men.

I will suppress my primal rage and need to swear like a pirate at the absolute state of the man and simply say no. That will not be happening. Women did compromise, the compromise was the GRA, and it is not working for women.

Women shutting up and going away and just living with this mess nicely as it gets bigger was always a forlorn fantasy on the part of men, and at this point it's reached Don Quixote status.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 14/11/2023 20:37

Thanks A Man for telling women what they should & should not be doing 🙄

DisingenuousBatshittery · 14/11/2023 20:42

Thanks, Random Man😐

popebishop · 14/11/2023 20:42

Literally no-one "starts life's journey" as a woman. We are babies, then children, with experiences and perspective shaped beyond belief by expectations of what we should be like purely because of our sex.

If womanhood isn't being a female adult then what is it? Why is it any different from manhood?

WickedSerious · 14/11/2023 20:44

Ha!

What a pile of shit.

CorruptedCauldron · 14/11/2023 20:53

Womanhood exclusively belongs to those who began life’s journey as a female baby. Womanhood is not about inner girlie-feels, it’s about the cold, hard fact of being born with a female body and being a biological female.

Womanhood is not a glorious, generous category that opens its arms to all and sundry because women are all so bloody lovely and welcoming. Womanhood is for biological female adults. Males who wish to present in a feminine style and call themselves girls’ names are free to do so. However, it doesn’t make them women because womanhood cannot be identified into if you weren’t born female. This is not about kindness or unkindness. It’s about defending reality to the goddamn hilt.

I always feel so much happier when a man makes the effort to tell me what the scope of womanhood should encompass.

I bet he wouldn't fuck the "women" who had started life differently, though.

Exactly.

It's not a bloody theme park.

Agrona · 14/11/2023 21:05

A man tells women what we should do, think etc.

My answer: No.

Men are not the ultimate authority on everything, even if they identify as such.

GoudaThunkIt · 14/11/2023 21:09

The comments under that piece are splendid. Even the male ToL readers are terfy!

ResisterRex · 14/11/2023 21:14

What an extraordinarily offensive article.

Imagine telling any other group they should compromise. Perhaps blind people should budge up for the short sighted? Plainly not.

But boring old women? Who cares. Sit down and shut up.

Risible.

AutumnCrow · 14/11/2023 21:21

Well he can fuck off

That's a lot of words to just parrot "be kind," how dumb does he think we are.

Igneococcus · 14/11/2023 21:24

It reads like something that could have been written a few years ago by someone well-meaning and naive. How anyone can still write this after Isla Bryson and the trans butcher (I can't remember his name now) I don't understand.

Happily 100% of the reader comments are telling him he is utterly WRONG

SidewaysOtter · 14/11/2023 21:29

Going by his tweet, he’s going for the “Ooh, look at me being controversial” angle.

Well, there is Dr Andrew Wilson but I doubt there is a single person alive who takes him seriously.
