Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

I'd far rather see racks and racks of artificial uteri than dormitories full of women incubating babies for others. In fact, if the technology works, I wouldn't have a problem with people opting for this rather than going through pregnancy, which has it's own risks to women's health.

But I also think technology like this would embolden anti-choice campaigners. That would, I think, be very bad for women as women's decisions to abort are rarely driven by concerns for the impact of pregnancy on their bodies.

The technology is being developed to help premature babies.... I can't oppose it.

We'd be better off with female sperm than this.

Cutting men out of the process entirely, and ensuring only daughters are born.

TheSandgroper · 06/11/2023 03:22

@Circumferences I do understand your point of view. I really do. I am deeply conflicted about it. If only we lived in a world where the right thing to do came first.

But Dr Suzanne Vierling points out the realities of the world we live in and it’s frightening. https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4474544-Womens-Bodies-as-Currency-w-Dr-Suzanne-Vierling

Women's Bodies as Currency w/ Dr. Suzanne Vierling | Mumsnet

I'm heading off for the night now, but I saw this earlier today and have to share. I've not heard of Dr Suzanne Vierling before but I love her...

@catduckgoose they already discovered years ago that you can fertilise a human egg with another human egg but aa you can only get a female child from doing so they didn't take the research any further, unsurprisingly.

catduckgoose · 06/11/2023 11:08

@Hoardasurass that's very interesting, do you have a link to this research? I wonder if the HFEA or an equivalent regulator stepped in to halt the work.

Hoardasurass · 06/11/2023 11:36

@catduckgoose I don't have a link but it was when they were working on cloning dolly the sheep. They 1st tried using 2 eggs but didn't get a clone but a new female so it was shelved, then not looked at again until they started trying to fix midracondial (sp) disorders by injecting the nucleus of the egg with midracondial issues into a healthy egg but it always fertilised it (without a sperm) so they had to remove the nucleus from both eggs, dispose of the 1 from the healthy egg before introducing the nucleus from the other egg and then fertilising the hybrid egg with a sperms thus getting a 3 parent child with no midracondial issues.
Noone has taken this research any further which I find strange on 1 hand and yet I absolutely understand it to, I mean if women are able to have healthy babies without any imput from males and all of those babies would be female it wouldn't take long to breed out all males due to them being surplus to requirement (genetically speaking).
