I spent some time on remand earlier this year in a large women’s prison. There was a TW on my spur. The difference in socialisation was STARK. Very glad when they were moved off, the atmosphere changed dramatically. They also had a single room marker so no risk of sharing. Amongst 33 women, one man made a huge difference.

Yes, this is always the point that is missed. Politicians bang on about 'tiny numbers' of people - forgetting that one single man can traumatise/retraumatise/irritate the shit out of/spoil the dynamic of/trigger large groups and many numbers of women.

How many women have self excluded from Edinburgh's Rape Crisis because they know that the CEO is a male who things part of his role is to 're educate' women who disagree with him?

This is the issue with compelled speech. There is no way it should ever be allowed. People should be completely free to choose what pronouns they use when describing someone. I can't imagine many (make that any at all) women prisoners would choose to use female pronouns for transwomen, given what is already known from the ONS and FOI data on both the significantly high number of women in prison who have been the victims of sexual violence and the percentage of transwomen who are in for sex offences.

Someone also mentioned the Forstater case. Everyone now has the legal right to hold the belief that sex immutable (and that we don't all have a gender identity). I would assume that as users of the prison service, prisoners are covered under this too.
