"Under the Duvet of Darkness Volume Two Lurking Merkins" is now live on Amazon.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CMJZ43VZ

This a thread about a book about a thread about a book about a thread! (I think I’ve got the correct number of books and threads in there)

There are over 160 poems written by over 40 different Mumsnet usernames contained within its 208 pages.

There are also 12 Lurking Merkin poems lurking throughout the book!

It can take a few days for it to become fully searchable so the link below will take you straight to it:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CMJZ43VZ

It's available worldwide so if anyone needs the link for a site other than the UK let me know and I can give you the link to the relevant Amazon site.

IMPORTANT BIT:

Whilst written entirely by Mumsnet users this book is not, I repeat NOT, published with Mumsnet’s express permission or co-operation.

It is published with the express permission and co-operation of the individual writers themselves.

Can anyone who tweets about it link directly to the book on Amazon or my Twitter profile:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CMJZ43VZ
or
https://twitter.com/TheBoiledbeetle

rather than to this MN thread.

Thank you everyone who let me use their poems, without you there would be no book!

As I am on the frozen north, I fully expect mine (as promised) to be here Tuesday. Last time it was early though so you never can tell. 😊.

I read 'Bonus' out loud to my husband...he laughed a lot, now has a wider vocabulary and a slightly different view of Mumsnet! Brilliant poem!

Boiledbeetle · 05/11/2023 19:26

@Bowednotbroken excellent news!

@ArcaneWireless @Swashbuckled I've got someone who isn't being theirs until at least Thursday so far North in the middle of nowhere are they! Hopefully you'd still arrive (unlike mine!)

@DialSquare

@CyclingSam has the rabbit eaten the corner of your new book?

@IcakethereforeIam have you opened it yet?

I'm sure @ArcaneWireless knows which of her poems that is, but for those that don't 👇

Not yetBlush
Child and bloke are watching an American Werewolf in London with the light off for atmosphere 👻

I'm going to wait until they've gone to bed 😠.

Swashbuckled · 05/11/2023 19:58

Love this poem @ArcaneWireless

I really do wonder what future generations will think when they read this book, as someone said above.

Feels like we’re naming, and dissecting, the great psychosis of our time.

ArcaneWireless · 05/11/2023 20:02

Thank you chicken and thank you beetle

I’m sure I missed plenty of names!

I confess to having a fondness for that one. I’m surprised I managed to summon up creative juices that day. I may have gone a bit rogue with the rage ower bonus holes 🤨

Mam still doesn’t know who I am. She’d probably hope I was one of the polite ones!!! 🤣

Boiledbeetle · 05/11/2023 20:30

This is @Whatthechicken poem, which is one of the ones that wasn't on the UTDOD threads but on the Denise Farmy v the Arts Council thread.

I'm just debating whether I should be nervous about the fact that the last I heard from the merkin lady herself was that she was on the way to her door to get her copy of the book... I've not heard a word since! And that was 3 and a half hours ago! It's either because she is blown away by the brilliance of the book or she's plotting ways to kill me!!

OP posts:
Boiledbeetle · 05/11/2023 20:40

@IcakethereforeIam well enjoy it when you get some alone time!

@Swashbuckled hopefully they won't think we had lost the plot and everyone else were the sane ones!

@ArcaneWireless if your mum reads this book she'll finally work out which one you are as she is referenced in the enlightenment of one of your poems!

I'm getting a serious case of FOMO now! 😬😬😬
I will be ordering it as soon as I have finished reading the poems in Volume One.
My best friend knows my user name and my husband knows about the poem I wrote, but otherwise I am currently destined to be one of the anonymous future grannies. However, that's not my plan. At some point I'll be stepping out of anonymity in this whole awful mess. Ideally on my own terms rather than being doxxed but the more I continue my IRL conversations in the way that I am doing, the closer I guess I get to that. For now, an anonymous poem in print, to go along with my anonymous article on Transgender Trend, will do just nicely.

IcakethereforeIam · 05/11/2023 22:23

I'm going in, wish me luck!

ArcaneWireless · 05/11/2023 22:33

I’d love to know what the lady of the merkin thinks.

All I know is that we women won’t have let her down. 😍

Boiledbeetle · 05/11/2023 22:53

@BonfireLady Its not like it's going anywhere it will still be available by the time you've finished volume 1! There's a few people who know in real life who am I and thankfully they all know to keep quiet. One person knew me as Boiled first and continues to call me that despite now knowing my real name after I accidentally outed myself to her via email one day by signing off with my real name!

@IcakethereforeIam see you on the other side!

@ArcaneWireless as would I! And I will admit now I can just look at it (well the proof anyway) as a book rather than a load of pages that I never thought I'd ever sort into something coherent I think it looks not too shabby!

I do love silly.

LarkLane · 06/11/2023 11:56

I've had a lovely morning reading everyone's poems.
The last page has blown me away. I got a bit emotional there.
Well done Wimms, a Christmas cracker for sure.😀

@CervixSampler you must be especially proud of that lass of yours.

Boiledbeetle · 06/11/2023 13:05

Finally get an email (again) that says my copy is out for delivery. So I go to check, and see its 6 stops away. Yay I think! Then the map appears with the van over 100 miles away!

They are just purposefully winding me up now!

@LarkLane what a way to spend a morning! I'm glad you've enjoyed it!

And I'm still not sure why everyone is getting so emotional over a barcode and the location it was printed in! 😉

And @Whatthechicken I've sent you a PM.

I'm so intrigued about this back page now.... 😊

Just had a notification to say mine is expected Wednesday rather then Tuesday 🙄

I'm assuming the weather is playing a massive factor.

I ordered twice in the first day once in the last hour of the day before you all knew which was the one that was supposed to be delivered yesterday and wasnt. Then a few hours later I ordered a second one and the delivery window had gone from one day delivery on prime to expected between 6-8th November so I'm assuming they are having issues somewhere, probably wherever they are doing the printing.

it hopefully also explains why we never moved off the processed number of sales that i woke up to yesterday morning! They are processing them again now, I'm just off to do a screenshot.

Currently on 18 volume 2 and 6 volume 1.

If anyone who has a copy feels like posting a photo of it in the wild for me to steal and stick on Twitter (and Amazon at some point) that would be great!

Also it needs some reviews on Amazon if you've read it and enjoyed it.

And Lola if you are reading... No love not you! You said quite enough last time!

I've done a review but it's yet to be published.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 06/11/2023 14:16

It's so good.

I'm writing poems for the next one. Can you keep doing it, Boiled?

I'm glad you like it. Moving on to your query ....

Rocks gently in a corner.

No. No. No. Maybe. No. No. Well... No. ..ooooh.... No. NO oh I don't know... aghhhhhh. Probably. No. No. Ye..... sobs.

How about if people post poems they do so in the knowledge they may at some point in a distant distant (so need to sort the crap out in my house) distant future if I do find there's enough to do something with and the memory of how stressed I get in the weeks leading up to publishing it have faded to the point where I don't wake in a cold sweat worrying about pages being in the wrong order and I've got the energy they may, or may not end up in a book.

(And for the love of God if someone does post a news related poem please say what it is about with relevant dates and maybe link to said item)

This is what it looked like the other week.

(I'm just delaying saying yes to the inevitable aren't I?)

🙈🙉🙊
