She is a legend of our time for all women. She spoke about the rape crisis centre she has funded and many other things.

She was so wonderful. Funny, warm, passionate, angry - just everything. And so knowledgeable and intelligent too. She really is a very special human being. It was especially lovely to see the warmth of her personal relationships with so many of the women in the room - she’s truly genuinely wonderful. Every minute was magical.

All of this.

'There’s various workshops and sessions that are under the guise of women’s safety that are trans-exclusionary.'

Which workshops and sessions does Holly Bruce of the Greens actually mean here? She should spell it out.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 17/10/2023 09:38

The most exasperating thing is that the protestors, ether the ones physically outside screeching "fuck you" at rape survivors or the ones online or in political parties, seem to think that FILIA is about gender. Of course gender was discussed - as it relates to women's rights - but there wasn't a session of "let's fuck over the trans".

We're just not that into you, TRAs. You are the main character in your own life, not anyone else's. You don't matter that much.

Women don't need any kind of "guise" to talk about things which don't include or concern male people who identify as women. We don't need an excuse, or a reason, or their permission, to talk about issues affecting our own lives or those of other women. They are just going to have to get over that because women are sick of pandering to them.

But what do you expect? Every time JKR even mentions women's rights the entire media starts losing its shit about the fact that she has yet again said something about trans rights.

We say "women", they hear "trans".

They can't comprehend the fact that not everything is about them. Most things are not about them, in fact.

Quite. When Cllr Gallagher was wanging on about not being against the conference per se but that certain speakers and sessions should be expunged because they're not 'inclusive' enough, I just thought -

No. Fuck off.

EmpressaurusOfCats · 17/10/2023 10:53

This was the excuse the Portsmouth protest organisers used too. Something along the lines of ‘We’re feminists too! We’d be in there supporting you if you weren’t so anti-trans.’

But that is their goal isn’t it? By inserting males into feminism, and into all women’s organizations, they get to ensure that women can never discuss, organise, decide or act without a male agreeing to all of this, and ensuring nothing we do upsets or bothers males.

I mean, that’s their goal isn’t it? I don’t think it is about validation. I think it’s about controlling, and destroying, feminism.

It might be their goal, but it's not working.

I used to be kind. I used to allow men in my spaces and use pronouns. Their endless demands and nastiness radicalised me and now I'm the terfiest of all the terfs and good fucking luck to them because I'm a peaking machine.

If only women would centre males when talking about FGM, there would have been no need for the large male to shout 'Fuck you' at them through a karaoke machine.

That Glasgow politicians were there in support of this gross misogynist abuse is obscene, frankly.

How amazing to show your support for Women.
What a lovely boost to all the amazing Women fighting for our rights. 💪

I don't think transmen would have been excluded from them? The entire conference was "men exclusionary" in as much as men couldn't attend, which was done for the legitimate aim of allowing women to come together to speak about issues in safety and dignity.
They never mean trans men though, do they?

Indeed.

The conference allowed men to attend. https://www.filia.org.uk/faqs

A couple of the lesbian panels specified that they were just for lesbians, but beyond that, only the party was women-only.

In theory, there was nothing in the rules of the conference to prevent anyone who objected to the existence of the conference from coming and, if they got the microphone to ask a question, from asking questions in favour of 'sex work' or of 'TWAW'. They just would have had to endure the presence of many women they disagree with.

Snowdayplease · 17/10/2023 19:24

@Precipice I honestly didn't know that! I didn't see a single man there so I must have assumed

Snowdayplease · 17/10/2023 19:26

Though now I've even less idea how there were complaints! As a straight woman I didn't get in a bad mood that there were events for lesbians I couldn't attend, and there were some for young women too which excluded me as well.

Augarden · 17/10/2023 19:52

I was there tooo! The atmosphere was incredible, I found myself unexpectedly overwhelmed, had tears streaming down my face!
The whole weekend was wonderful, can't remember the last time I felt so at home at an event.

ArabellaScott · 17/10/2023 20:04

As we know, this is unconscionable to most trans activists.

That female council member is the one trying to make Glasgow a “ feminist “ city, yet she stood with misogynists and fools to shout at women.

Augarden · 17/10/2023 20:27

I arrived at doors open on the Friday, supposing correctly that wouldn't be out of their bed that early to protest, so I never had to hear their nonsense. But I was still rather anxious, heading in alone and not knowing what awaited... It's really disgusting to target women like this, not knowing what they have gone through.

MavisMcMinty · 17/10/2023 21:57

Who’s the transwoman in that clip with Julie Bindel please, @ArabellaScott ?

RhannionKPSS · 17/10/2023 21:58

It’s “ Fae “ someone who likes to knit to show how much of a woman he is…

MavisMcMinty · 17/10/2023 22:00

Ah thanks, wondered if it was IW without the filter.
