Student at Edinburgh University admits he 'doesn't know too much about' the book he's protesting at the launch of.

How many people are 'condemning' things they actually have no idea about?

His petulant reply to the (well-deserved) telling-off he’s receiving on TwitterX is that 'the women should have used the side entrance, then'.

It's interesting, in a forensic sense, to watch someone unravelling in real time as the nasty little tactics they thought they could get away with are being called out and pulled apart. He didn’t expect this to happen. And is spiralling in consequence.

For someone allegedly garlanded with educational awards he's remarkably unthinking, isn't he? that's on a par with 'well you shouldn't have gone out after dark,' or 'you shouldn't have worn a short skirt.' Always these retrospective rules they write in their heads that women should have done and that women are supposed to magically know about - and always making the women at fault somehow, anyhow.

They looked cold. The crotch thrust though? Weird little pervert.

I'm hoping u of e will take appropriate action to protect the female colleague and sanction this misogynist. He shouldn't be allowed to continue as union rep either, no woman would feel comfortable with him as their rep.

More gormless protestors out this morning for FiLiA. Who knew they had alarm clocks? See other thread.

I'm so sad to see so many young women being so anti-women. Who will protect you and help you once you graduate from your cottonwool university and have to navigate the real world?

Why, all their trans friends becoming women. The sisterhood is strong.

The spiralling is happening because, in stark contrast to years past, the TRAs are not in control of the narrative. The legal cases are coming in, acceptance/sympathy from the public is waning, women are not shutting up and rolling over.

If we look back on this shameful period of history at a later date when sanity has prevailed, 2023 will be the year that the wheels came off this clown car.

I don't even recall 2022 as positive in any substantive way, indeed 18 months ago is when I literally vented for the day and went on to take steps to manage my emotions.

This year? The shopping trolley is crashing into the aisles with idiots like this fully exposed to the world.

mauvish · 13/10/2023 12:20

The one comfort I take from this is that UoE apparently has just over 49000 students. Without counting heads, I'd guess there's barely 0.1% of them causing a nuisance here.

ApocalipstickNow · 13/10/2023 16:03

Sex does not equal gender. Isn't it them who think that? Do they really think a woman can impregnate another? And the holder of the placard was nowhere near even born when my mum was born just after WW1.
maybe they think your dad’s your mum.

Those contortions look even worse when you see the video.

Do universities ever sanction staff for bringing the institution into disrepute? If so, this seems to me to be an open and shut case.

If this guy keeps his job, then you know further education is totally captured. It's as simple as this, his behaviour is way above, and far beyond, anything that could be described as fair and reasonable, or even genuinely passionate and angry.

If he doesn't lose his job, then we have effectively state-sponsored misogyny.

CyberCritical · 15/10/2023 16:38

The contortions are bad, but the one in orange actually grabbing at that ladies legs deserved a kick. They could have easily caused that woman to fall and inflicted serious damage.

fedupandstuck · 15/10/2023 16:39

What a fucking weirdo that chap is. Thrusting himself in the way of women trying to enter the building. Wow. And those other people grabbing their legs too. That's common assault, not a peaceful protest. Ffs.

Perhaps they may take action at what looks to me like intimidation, and sexually threatening behaviour. Thrusting your groin at women and trying to block their path is not 'peaceful protest'.

Hopefully some formal complaints have gone into the university about identified students and staff creating a physically hostile and dangerous atmosphere for women exercising their democratic rights to attend a book launch. It's one thing for toddlers to throw themselves on the floor and grab a woman's legs while crying "no Mummy". But young adults and uni employees? Seriously?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/10/2023 13:24

That's a damning indictment of the climate in Edinburgh. I can't get my head around it. Athens of the North? Not any more, it seems. Surely Professor Benjamin must have some recourse?

BabyStopCryin · 18/10/2023 15:42

We haven’t advanced since the days of John Knox. Or cavemen.
