Oh she’s absolutely crap.

An absolute panderer, and as much a poet as I am a skydiver.

ApocalipstickNow · 08/10/2023 14:39

Why would women complain when we are not listened to anyway? 🙄

AnneLarsen · 08/10/2023 14:39

She doesn’t seem to know about the rape by a transwoman of a patient on a hospital ward, referred to by Baroness Nicholson in the House of Lords. Or maybe she does, but she’s not letting the facts get in the way of a shit poem.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 08/10/2023 14:51

Is there, possibly, some sort of reason why there might not have been any on the maternity ward? Can't think what, though.

RealityFan · 08/10/2023 14:54

These people really cannot chew gum and walk at the same time. Yet they have the amplified voices.

Perfect28 · 08/10/2023 14:59

But isn't her poem accurate? According to a freedom of information request there have been no complaints.

scrantonelectriccity · 08/10/2023 15:01

Don't imagine you'd find many trans women on a maternity ward would you?

Cherryana · 08/10/2023 15:05

…but the rape on the ward wasn’t done by a transwoman - don’t you recall - they protested and protested there were no men on that ward.

…therefore if there are not accurate records - how do we know if no one has complained about a transwoman on a female ward…???

Without language that is backed up by meaning who knows what records, stats, etc are made up. It’s open season for 1984.

BandicootCrash · 08/10/2023 15:06

She's always talking about what she wishes she'd "been taught". She's very vocal about society needing to "teach" all manner of sexual things, including masturbation, and pleasure in general. Stuff that kind of makes sense in conversations with your own teens, but is absolutely inappropriate in any formal adult to child setting (school of sexuality education - I'm looking at you....)

So I have the impression she feels the need to be seen as very much NOT a prudish, pearl clutcher (not that any of us actually are, of course). I still think she's fantastic in lots of ways, though.

MaggieBsBoat · 08/10/2023 15:20

I have no idea who she is, but her comments are sound and transwomen being on women’s wards is a vehicle by the Tories to take the eye off the other more pressing problems.

The fact stands though that males should not be on female wards.

It makes sense to discuss all of these not undermine each other’s critique of a lousy government.

AyeDeadOn · 08/10/2023 15:29

Holly needs to imagine that screaming person in a nighty was a male, and rather than annoyed her granny would likely have felt petrified.

IfYouDontAsk · 08/10/2023 15:38

It hasn’t entered her mind for one moment that women might not want to publicly object to males on female hospital wards?

Because no woman who objects to males in female only spaces has ever:

  • been harassed
  • been threatened with rape or other violence
  • has her family threatened
  • been doxxed
  • lost her job
  • been shouted down as a bigot
Truthlikeness · 08/10/2023 15:39

Am I missing something? Isn't the point that wards have been single sex until this point and we're attempting to prevent males going onto female wards? When did foreseeing something as a potential problem and preventing it before it becomes a massive issue become the wrong thing to do?
There can be no doubt that transwomen on female wards have and will cause distress to vulnerable women. (The kind of women who are likely just to be quiet, or be ignored and chastised if they do complain) Hollie is in a hugely privileged position if she cannot see this.

FrancescaContini · 08/10/2023 15:42

So she hasn’t read about the woman who was raped on a woman’s ward by a man on the same ward? And the fact that the hospital denied for over a year that there had been a man on the ward? Is this “nobody”, Hollie?

ArabellaScott · 08/10/2023 15:42

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 08/10/2023 14:51

🤔

Justme56 · 08/10/2023 15:42

Holly what’s wrong with dividing categories by sex. It seems a perfectly logical thing to do especially in a medical setting. If you would rather be in a mixed sex ward that’s your choice and I’m sure it can be arranged. More space for those who don’t.

LunaNorth · 08/10/2023 15:43

My late mum had to have an emergency ECG when she was in her eighties, so she was asked to take off her bra.

She went into the loo on the ward to do so, and when she came out, she furtively handed me her bra, which she had wrapped up in a bit of loo roll to hide it.

She would have been beyond mortified and petrified to have had to have been on a ward with a man in a nightie. Ladyfeelz or no ladyfeelz.

But who gives a fuck how an octogenarian woman feels, eh? Probably just an old bigot.

ArabellaScott · 08/10/2023 15:43

Hollie has written some pretty good poems, notably one on breastfeeding. This is not one of them, though.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 08/10/2023 15:49

Isn't the point that wards have been single sex until this point

NHS Annex B that allows people to be placed on the ward of their chosen gender has been in place for over a decade. [Edit - underpinning single-sex care policy was about 2010, the document with the current iteration of trans exception set out in the infamous annex B is dated 2019; not sure exactly when policy started to be applied in current manner.] But hardly anyone knew about it, so it wasn't being exploited. It's only much more recently that the boundary-pushing has ramped up, and that people have started to investigate and discuss it.

The 'there are no men on this ward' rape case that is often referenced actually happened a few years ago - but took time to come to light because the NHS were insistent 'no men' and therefore the police wouldn't investigate a rape that couldn't have happened.

AnSolas · 08/10/2023 15:59

Granddad was on a hospital ward complaining in public about the fact that he had not had sex.
And the female stranger in the bed beside him just rolled her eyes and laughed ........

Creepy opening line setting the (low) bar for what women should accept

Topofthemountain · 08/10/2023 16:09

I think in that very first line Holly has unwittingly declared what the issue is : Men moaning when they can't get what they want.

WhatAreYouWaitingFor · 08/10/2023 16:11

Oh I'm a fan ☹️
Disappointing

Fionaoffeltrinelli · 08/10/2023 16:14

Handmaidenry 101, nearly summed up by Hollie in just a few lines!

  1. This never happens.
  2. Well it hasn’t happened to me, or anyone I know, so it as good as never happens.
  3. Zero empathy for women who might think it’s a problem or who have experienced the problem.
  4. Bonus weird and inappropriate mention of sex.

Good job Hollie! You just need to throw about the word TERF a few times, accuse said TERFs of denying the existence of trace people, chant the mantra TWAW and tell them they can pee next to you and you’re golden!

Notaflippinclue · 08/10/2023 16:22

The odd one in the past would be accommodated in a side room- that's why no one complained - now the numbers have increased they will have to stick to their XY wards - don't you think nurses have mums sisters daughters aunties for goodness sake
