Menopause finally being taken seriously - for men!

I’m not even sure where to start with this:

Up to 12 months paid leave

Firefighters to be able to ‘work from home’

Special uniforms and portable fans

flexible working patterns…

If you’re a bloke suffering from menopausal symptoms.

JULIE BINDEL: Policies on 'male menopause' has left me reeling

JULIE BINDEL: The phenomenon of 'male menopause' doesn't exist - and that's not just the angry rhetoric of a lifelong feminist who has spent her career campaigning for women's rights .

🙄

theDudesmummy · 07/10/2023 11:01

Are they talking about men actually having a menopause (total bullshit), or "transmen" (ie women?

RebelliousCow · 07/10/2023 11:07

The talk is around the andropause, when a man's hormone levels drop off as they age.

Whatthechicken · 07/10/2023 11:07

Men. Menopause is only just being recognised by organisations for the devastating impacts it can have…and orgs swoop in immediately with solutions for men who are going through a mid-life crisis. Can’t have anything these days.

To be honest, the special pleading for special treatment on account of menopause was bound to lead to situations like this.

Whatthechicken · 07/10/2023 11:10

The article says 1% reduction in testosterone per year from about age 30, it’s hardly comparable. But they are straight in there with ‘12 months paid leave’ whilst women are still not believed or prescribed antidepressants.

What happened to the good old fashioned midlife crisis, complete with twattish tight jeans, Harley Davidson and 25yo girlfriend? Male menopause my arse.

RealityFan · 07/10/2023 11:12

Cmon, as a guy I get hot flushes. Actually white hot rage as I read Grade A bullshit like this.

CrystalDay · 07/10/2023 11:16

There was something on this morning the other day about men having testosterone replacement therapy.

I do know of a man that legitimately needs this due to medical issues, but it was being framed as something that was very common.

Why should I?

Oh daily mail is junk food for the brain, it's quick and easy but we're all sensible enough not to live on it.
Lots of news now is more opinion than substance where-ever you get it from.

RebelliousCow · 07/10/2023 11:49

Stop sharing the fucking daily fail.

The article was written by Julie Bindel. Ever heard of her?

Whatthechicken · 07/10/2023 11:51

I actually find Julie Bindel pieces incredibly insightful whether she writes for the Daily Mail or the Guardia…oh wait. Of all the things that could be said about the menopause and men suffering from it, my choice of news outlet was not up there.

OP posts:
ChaToilLeam · 07/10/2023 11:54

Fucks sake, is there nothing men won’t make about them?

quantumbutterfly · 07/10/2023 11:56

Good points, who's writing the article rather than where you read it.
Purity spirals, urinary leashes...they stop us going anywhere fast.

booksandbeans · 07/10/2023 12:05

Seeing as Menopause means meno (menstruation) pause means stop they are stating the impossible. To be picky why are they using the word ‘men’. As women are now referred to as ‘menstruators’ (😂 spell check does not recognise this word) why are men allowed to recognise their sex, which btw does not menstruate.

a proper heading should be ‘Policies on menstruators menopause’. But then that would actually exclude men 🤔

TealSapphire · 07/10/2023 12:27

Exactly @booksandbeans!

Wiccan · 07/10/2023 12:38

Any man who believes this CRAP is more than welcome to spend 48 hours with me without my Evorel 50 estrogen patch on .
It's truly terrifying!!

Male menopause my fucking arse 😡😡

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2023/oct/06/the-male-menopause-genuine-condition-or-moneymaking-myth?

The Guardian is till capable of publishing truth, though it’s a shame they didn’t see the parallels between this and cross-sex hormone use: “A lot of the ‘andropause’ literature stems from commercial interests, particularly in the USA, wishing to draw spurious comparisons with the female menopause in order to sell testosterone-related products for which there is no clinical evidence of benefits."

The male menopause: genuine condition or moneymaking myth?

Experts say there is no equivalent of the menopause for men and symptoms such as depression and low sex drive have other explanations

Don't make out you don't read it..🤫

Perfect28 · 07/10/2023 13:31

Do you really have to ask?

AInightingale · 07/10/2023 13:33

FFS. I am just dumbfounded by this.

The only way a man could come close to experiencing anything like the menopause would be through castration or having his testes removed in cancer surgery. Then he would have a surgical 'andropause' because his body (adrenals in men?) would only be producing a small amount of androgenic hormones. This is the equivalent to what women go through when our ovaries fail. And even at that, he wouldn't suffer bleeding, flooding, pain and fibroids.

I have sympathy for men receiving treatment for prostate cancer as their hormones can be blocked with drugs, but that's a medical matter. The notion that men routinely experience the mid-life descent into hormonal upheaval that women do is insulting and ridiculous.

PaperWalkAndTalk · 07/10/2023 13:50

I would question where the push is coming from. Are there lobbying groups (like Stonewall), commercial interests or people worried that because the menopause is a female only issue it would be sex discrimination that men aren't involved?

Clearly it's nonsense, and the last thing we need is for an excuse for middle-aged public sector workers to be able to take a year off on full pay.

AInightingale · 07/10/2023 13:57

@PaperWalkAndTalk. Clearly. It's something that only affects women (directly I mean) so obviously some people have a problem with it. The idea of something being exclusively within the domain of biological females is anathema to them. We've had it with periods and birth and breastfeeding and now it's menopause.
