"Denise has had to repeat her PSA test numerous times because the lab sees the label “female” and throws it in the bin, assuming an error. This is why education is so important: education for medical staff and laboratory technicians – to understand that a simple XX/XY chromosomal binary is a very narrow definition of human nature and biology."

Dunno but shouldn't there be a simpler solution?

Denise Breen tells us why it’s important that not just men over 40 should be aware of prostate cancer. - Marie Keating Foundation

“Denise is an unassuming woman, married and with two adult daughters. She is currently Director of an International Consultancy involved in the programme management of Data Centres for international customers. She has worked for the likes of Google,...

Having separate sex markers and gender/gender identity markers on medical records would help, but the TRAs have bollocksed everything up by trying to collapse the distinction between the two. I don’t know what they were expecting. Turns out that reality is stubbornly persistent. 🤷‍♀️

because the lab sees the label “female” and throws it in the bin, assuming an error.

Surely not!

Evil transphobes and transmisogynists, the lot of them!

Surely a simple solution would be Denise and all the surrounding panderers acknowledging the reality that Denise is male and therefore labelling the samples as such.

Honestly have injured myself from rolling my eyes so hard at this.

"Having been assigned male at birth and despite surgery to correct that error, Denise has a prostate. Most transgender women do, as do some intersex and non-binary people. That’s ok. Nature is weird and wonderful sometimes. It is infinite in its diversity and combinations. Nowadays as well as getting her regular screenings such as BreastCheck, Denise gets a regular Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test at her local GP’s office. It’s a simple blood test that gets sent away to a lab and one usually gets the result a few days later.
For transgender, intersex or non-binary people, the testing regime is never simple.

It defines the majority but not a significant minority"

this is insane!!!!!

Are there any laws or regulations around publishing this kind of scientifically incorrect rot?

Dumbo12 · 18/09/2023 17:30

A man insists that his medical records say he is female and then gets upset that his (male) sex specific check isn't followed through. Have I got that right?

Froodwithatowel · 18/09/2023 19:18

<Gets megaphone>

<Bellows DO NOT BE SO DAMNED SILLY at everyone involved, with a side order of GET A FUCKING GRIP, A CHILD COULD SORT THIS>

<Throws megaphone at them>

<Gets arrested for being of the sex who possibly has prostates but definitely isn't allowed to mention sex, reality, common sense or fuckwits being fuckwits>

PermanentTemporary · 18/09/2023 19:25

As the partner of a man with prostate cancer, the confusion of messages here makes me fucking angry. As if men are generally good at taking action on health screening in the first place. The recent improvements in prostate cancer treatment mean that targeted screening is increasingly worthwhile (i believe). But that has to overcome mental images a very different picture in the past.

The piece was so bizarre and counterproductive that I wondered who had written it. I see it was in fact Denise themselves that wrote the piece, and that their root cause analysis of the error of discarding an incorrectly labelled test was that the lab staff should be educated to ignore errors in labelling. What an utter fuckwit.

AlisonDonut · 18/09/2023 19:33

So what's the point of all this then?

Myalternate · 18/09/2023 19:34

Well from what I’ve read, Denise has two children with a wife that stood by him when he chose to opt out of being male. 🫢

Boiledbeetle · 18/09/2023 19:36

I wonder if it's my prostate that has me up peeing every 45 minutes through the night!

Must ask the doctor to check it next time I'm there.

literalviolence · 18/09/2023 19:59

This is utter nonsense. Only males have a prostate. Drs did not make a mistake when they said Denise was a male. Denise is a male and always will be. In this instance, it's a medical categorisation because I can tell you that not one person processing the blood test gives a flying fuck about the identity of the owners of that blood.

literalviolence · 18/09/2023 19:59

Indeed, what even is the point of using the word 'female' if there are no common characteristics amongst those in that category. Dear god.

HootyMcBooby76 · 18/09/2023 20:13

So, TW insists everybody treat them as an actual women, forbid anyone to use male pronouns or male gendered language around or about them, shame anyone who "deadnames" them, has all their legal documentation changed to reflect their "new" sex, erases their past lives completely.

But still want the medical world to somehow use their crystal balls (pun intended) to predict which of the new "ladies" will need a prostate exam, and which ones don't need a cervical smear.

Gotcha.

Or how about we just recognise that in some situations, being clearly identified as your sex (which never changes) is important and life saving.

The medical world should NEVER have capitulated to this horse shit.
BODIES have medical problems.
Not "identities".

donquixotedelamancha · 18/09/2023 20:16

Denise is no ordinary woman. She has a trans history. What that means is that when she was born, doctors thought she was male.

I wonder why they thought that?

Could it have anything to do with why the lab doesn't test females for prostate cancer?

It's a mystery.

MagpiePi · 18/09/2023 20:20

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at this bit.

SnorkeMor · 18/09/2023 20:21

I have zero sympathy. This is exactly the healthcare that TRAs have fought for.
Not working for them? Huh. Quelle surprise 🙄

Was it the full male genitalia followed by normal, successful male puberty which resulted in the hospital mistakenly thinking Denise was a boy? Why are TW not campaigning for sex to not be recorded on a birth certificate? I can't see the point of it being recorded if it means nothing any more.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 18/09/2023 20:39

What makes me angry is the NHS wasting time and money on this shit.

All medical records should record sex. Gender is just a load of nonsense, particularly in the context of health and medicine.

mycoffeecup · 18/09/2023 20:43

Royal College of GPs have been for some time calling for there to be two markers on the notes - sex and gender. No-one is listening.

Justme56 · 18/09/2023 20:46

I did a quick Google of Denise and I’m not convinced that Denise is the unassuming woman that this states. I think Denise wrote this. As medical information is confidential between doctor and patient it would have been quite easy to tell the truth and nobody would have known. Time and resources would not have been wasted.

PaperWalkAndTalk · 18/09/2023 20:59

Can't this person just identity out of having one? Why is cancer misgendering this person?

literalviolence · 18/09/2023 21:00

Bloody transphobic prostates
