Did anyone else see this? At least they haven’t got a sexualised or misogynistic drag name I suppose.

Of course they did. The BBC cannot go half an hour without promoting some aspect of transideology. Marginalised my arse!

Monopause · 10/09/2023 13:37

It’s Brighton. Great drag queen name though - actually made me laugh.

AutumnCrow · 10/09/2023 13:42

Is he actually a medical doctor & GP? There's some scepticism on Twits. He looks like more of a 'doctor of education' apparently.

I rember that joke from the 1970s. Morecambe & Wise?

He is a GP. He does also teach at a medical school, from a quick Google.

Oh, I thought it was Terry Wogan, but Morecambe and Wise could be on the 👃.

PinkRoses1245 · 10/09/2023 13:59

Who cares what someone does in their spare time? Honestly.

Justme56 · 10/09/2023 14:04

Is he wearing LED glasses?

PermanentTemporary · 10/09/2023 14:30

Great piece. I loved the name.

Assuming this is a good faith comment, what people do in their spare time can be highly relevant. For example, if they video themselves masturbating in toilets and post it online, that could indicate such a person is a safeguarding risk. That comment is unrelated to the article under discussion, for the avoidance of doubt.

This GP is obviously proud of their hobby and has publicised it, otherwise the BBC wouldn’t know about it, would they.

Right? How is this GP's hobby harmful to his patients? What is actually the problem? He's not saying 'I like torturing children after a tough day at the surgery' FFS.

Goodviibrations · 10/09/2023 14:57

Not surprised by the BBC.

They've also literally just shown a runner with double mastectomy scars doing the Great North Run on behalf of Mermaids.

cariadlet · 10/09/2023 15:06

What annoyed me in the BBC article was the crap about bringing his authentic self into work. He's got a rainbow flag and a trans flag on his desk and introduces himself with his first name.

I don't want any of that when I go to see my GP. It's a medical appointment, not speed dating. I don't need to know about my GP's personal life.

If my GP feels the need to introduce himself or herself then I would like Dr +surname. I don't want a mate. I want a medical opinion from somebody who will listen to me and who seems professional.

The Dr in the article seemed to be centering himself instead of centering his patients.

WallaceinAnderland · 10/09/2023 15:13

'It's a medical appointment, not speed dating'

😂

Since you can get disciplined for what you do in your spare time, of course people care.

inkjet · 10/09/2023 15:20

It’s also a comment on the BBC rather than the doctor himself. We don’t see profiles on GPs who go windsurfing or play in orchestras or hear about their political views when they’re not working, so why this?

SuperNewMe · 10/09/2023 15:26

Is this GP a good doctor?
Can they help me if I'm ill?
That's what matters to me.
I don't give a shit whether they're a drag Queen in their spare time.

IcakethereforeIam · 10/09/2023 15:43

A GP?

Frodedendron · 10/09/2023 15:46

I wouldn't care about this. I don't find drag offensive.

I thought that too! Burly Chassis is just perfect as a drag queen name.

It did make me wonder whether it would be worth writing to the BBC complaints department to make the point that the previous objections were to an individual with a misogynist drag queen name being in a mainstream pre-watershed family-viewing show, and that there would have been no objection to an individual with a non-misogynistic wordplay drag name - such as Burly Chassis - being on a ‘family viewing’ show. No one objected to Craig performing in drag on Strictly, for example, as he wasn’t using a misogynist name to do so. The complaints department seemed determined to misinterpret the complaints made.

A certain well known *dr, who even appeared on TV used to tweet an awful lot. Lost his licence for a month because of his tweets, has had to tone down his tweeting substantially since he regained his licence.

Of course its important what people do in their own time. Fgs my own contract states that its immediate dismissal if I bring ill repute on my workplace. And they mean it, I know several people have been sacked for stupid things they put on Facebook

*anyone got the link to the posie/harrop interview?

SuperNewMe · 10/09/2023 17:59

Of course its important what people do in their own time
This doctor's a drag Queen though.
So what?
All I'd care about is whether they're a good, caring doctor or not.

And I consider drag to be woman face and unacceptable, so if he was my GP I'd be moving surgery.

Given drag is all kinds of misogynistic in my mind, I wouldnt trust this dr to have my best interests at heart.

But you do you.

I agree. A doctor should be as neutral as possible and completely focused on the patient's needs.

SuperNewMe · 10/09/2023 18:44

But you do you
I will 👍
If the doctor's good at their job and can help me get better that's all I care about.
If they do drag in their spare time I say that's up to them
It doesn't impact their work as a doctor in any way.
(Although I can see why you'd feel it might if you believe in woman face)
I don't though.
So yes, I do me, and you do you.
Sorted
