I'm a historian at Oxford University and together with Alice Sullivan, Sociology Prof at UCL, I'm co-editor of Sex and Gender: A Contemporary Reader which is published today! All our authors take a gender-critical perspective on debates within the sciences, social sciences and humanities with chapters on sport, criminology and history among others. The stellar lineup of contributors include many feminists known to this forum.
It is published by an academic publisher, which means it's expensive, but having peer-reviewed academic publications that state the facts is vital. It's aimed at general readers as well as students and lecturers - and you can always ask your library to stock it.
Use discount code EFL03 at www.routledge.com/Sex-and-Gender-A-Contemporary-Reader/Sullivan-Todd/p/book/9781032261195 & please ask for it in your local bookshops and libraries.

Ordered it!

WarriorN · 25/08/2023 18:28

That's definitely a stellar line up! Congratulations!

Cynicaltheorist · 25/08/2023 18:49

Well done to you all. I saw Alice Sullivan giving a speech on academic freedom on You Tube and she was fabulous. The price is a bit too high for me but I'll order it through my local library which can do loans from the university library — and I'll get everyone I know to do so too.

MotherofPearl · 25/08/2023 18:54

Thank you for highlighting this. I'll order it for my university library.

Waitwhat23 · 25/08/2023 19:02

Oooooh - will be getting this on payday!

readbooksdrinktea · 26/08/2023 12:17

I'm going to save up for this. Thank you for the code. From what I can see, it cancels out the VAT charge for my destination.

L353A1 · 26/08/2023 18:23

I'm reading it now and it's very good. Very clear language. Lots of common misconceptions cleared up.

Imicola · 26/08/2023 18:42

Requested our library gets it, and so far they have surprisingly got a lot of the books I requested!

Delphinium20 · 26/08/2023 19:16

Ordered it! I'm also going to request it from my library as they have been suspiciously unable to locate some books despite my living in a major metropolitan area in a country with extremely robust free speech laws...

AnneWhittle · 26/08/2023 19:38

I think ordering it from a public library is a great idea and will hopefully men more people read it

Igmum · 01/09/2023 14:32

Meanacademic · 01/09/2023 16:08

Had the same experience when ordering Material Girls for my university library a while back 😊

AmbleInAnnBoleyn · 10/10/2023 09:04

Good grief, Iggy. Thank you for the link.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 10/10/2023 09:09

Is the book launch public, are there tickets? I'm busy in the afternoon but I'd like to go if I can. I've been googling but can't find info.

Cancelledcurio · 10/10/2023 09:11

Oh cheers!

JoIsBraverThanIAm · 10/10/2023 09:36

Heads up - Amazon hss the paperback for £32.99 today (though the Routledge site tells me it can't ship the paperback to my country, without apparently knowing what country that is...)

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 10/10/2023 09:45

Lovely, thank you @JoIsBraverThanIAm I do hope to get there.

literalviolence · 10/10/2023 09:48

Neither are women an academic debate. Such hypocrisy in the trans movement.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 10/10/2023 10:07

Neither are women an academic debate.

Yes of course we're an academic debate, women always have been. And for a short time the academic debate about women was even on women's terms, but then it became gender studies instead of women's studies (because men shouldn't be left out of anything) and started going to pot (maybe a coincidence).

I'm an academic by trade and that's what academia is for. Study. Asking questions. Debating the answers. Not only providing reassuring pap that helps students get jobs, though I do my fair share of that too.

If the person with the placard doesn't want to be an academic debate then maybe s/he should protest the existence of gender studies departments.

£23 on Amazon Kindle, do you still get recogntion if ordered that way?
