This will be interesting, I don’t think they have a leg to stand on.

Jason Grant, a former personal trainer, was hired as period dignity officer for the Tayside region in August last year. The post was meant to involve discussing sanitary products in schools and colleges with students.

However the £35,000-a-year role was abolished weeks later after claims that “threats and abuse” had been levelled towards individuals involved in the project.

Male period poverty tsar cleared to take action against four public bodies

A man who lost his job as Scotland’s first “period poverty tsar” after a global backlash has won his bid to take legal action against the public bodies who hire

Of course they should have used the Exemptions and hired a woman.

Bloody fools.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 15/08/2023 16:50

I'd expect it to be a slam-dunk for him.

LetMeEnfoldYou · 15/08/2023 16:51

The guy representing him is excellent, I have worked with him before. Seems like he has an excellent case.

Why the fuck they didn't just hire a woman in the first place is beyond me.

Redshoeblueshoe · 15/08/2023 17:04

There's a lot of questions that need answering. Why was it advertised in such a way that no-one who would have applied could have seen it ? And what is going on with him and the woman who hired him for this, and for other jobs ?

If I recall there were a whole lot of "irregularities" about the process, open recruitment etc that were revealed. Presumably these will be given another airing?

Yes, on previous threads here, it was suggested that there might have been a prior professional relationship between Mr Grant and the person who signed off his appointment.

Tbh, this all seems like a deliberate grift/scam to me. Inside job? Appoint a man in an obviously unsuitable role, fire him and then he sues for millions, which you share.

ResisterRex · 15/08/2023 19:24

The legal discovery should be illuminating

mach2 · 15/08/2023 19:26

He should never have applied for or accepted the job. I can't say a sympathise with him.

Winnading · 15/08/2023 19:26

I'm so looking forward to this, I've got out the folding chair, a blanket and lots of popcorn and hot chocolate.
I reckon there will be the odd surprise revealed.

YukoandHiro · 15/08/2023 19:31

No the job was actually a logistics one

www.thenational.scot/news/20977675.jason-grant-quits-period-dignity-role-amid-criticism-appointing-man-post/

Looks like some PR tried to turn it into something bigger for a cheap story and created an own goal

LetMeEnfoldYou · 15/08/2023 19:46

What do you mean a logistics one?

I live in Dundee and shared the job description on here at the time it was advertised, and it was very much focused on community outreach events.

mumda · 15/08/2023 19:46

Is it his time of the month?

It should be pointed out that he shouldn't have ever been in with a chance of winning the job.

Periods are for females.

This is insanity.

I feel the same in fact I feel rather suspicious of why a man would want to or think he is uniquely qualified to talk to young girls about periods.

BellaAmorosa · 15/08/2023 19:51

I do hope so!

Imnobody4 · 15/08/2023 19:52

No he shouldn't have applied but more importantly the employers should have advertised it under the single sex exemption in the Equality Act. That is what it's there for. I just hope they'll learn their lesson.

I don't actually think that he had any dodgy motives. But lots of girls and women don't want to talk about periods with a man. I dont.

Is it that young guy Ryan Russel that's his lawyer? If be surprised if he lost his case if it is.

According to the Times report:

The post was meant to involve discussing sanitary products in schools and colleges with students.

So not just logistics.

And in the article you linked Grant said this:

Grant said that “having a guy can’t be a bad thing”, adding: “For me it’s about driving the discussion from a young age so boys and girls are included and there’s no hiding it away because that keeps it as a taboo topic.”

Definitely not just a logistics role.

Hoppinggreen · 15/08/2023 19:54

I wonder whether he applied off his own back or was advised to

Gonnawashmymouthout · 15/08/2023 19:56

I've always suspected the role was earmarked for him tbh. Someone on the panel had taken a shine to him.

This, how did he think a man talking to girls about period products would go down???

Rightsraptor · 15/08/2023 19:58

There's no indication in your link, @YukoandHiro, of what the job description was. Logistics is not mentioned.

Plus, they put out an incredibly revealing photo when Jason's appointment was announced of him sitting at one of those bloody annoying pub garden tables that I struggle to get in & out of. He was accompanied at this table by a beardy woke bro chum and a woman and a girl. It certainly looked like Jason was explaining the period products on the table to the poor clueless females. 'Cos we'd have no idea about periods, would we? Thank heaven for mansplainers.

BellaAmorosa · 15/08/2023 19:58

This is like when I heard there was definitely going to be a series 2 of The Wheel Of Time. I cannot wait.

Confirms my feelings. Note the liberal use of all genders and then he has the brass neck to talk about menopause. Mansplainer on fucking crack.

DdraigGoch · 15/08/2023 23:27

The council could have rejected his application on the simple grounds of "lacks relevant qualifications and experience" with no controversy but no, they will end up costing the taxpayer a fortune through their incompetence.
