I thought this was a piss take at first, but it's real.

Patrick Harvie and a bunch of trans activists protested the recent international event in Glasgow.

A man protesting women's sport.

Why?

Because it is open to women only.

'Questions were raised about why the protest had targeted the women's elite road race and not the mens'

No shit.

You may very well say that. I could not possibly comment.

(titters nervously, wonders if cold peppermint tea has the same effect as holy water...)

What a wanker.

Is Harvie mates with Tatchell? Seems
like they’d get along well…

Interesting that the comments on the article about this in the National, which is usually all TWAW, are very scathing . Bringing attention to wanting to allow men to cheat in women's sport is obviously not a vote winner.

My memory was garbled. He received an award named after a key member of PIE.

Not sure why he's so against women's rights though.

Which, if he were a decent (or even logical) human being he would have declined on that very basis.

GoatsareGOAT · 14/08/2023 21:31

Insufferable wee scrote he is 🤢

Campaigners with the group held a flag which said “let trans women win” they're not even pretending anymore!!

I think the correct term for this is 'beyond parody'.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 15/08/2023 08:28

Is this getting a lot of publicity in Scotland? I so, so want the Scottish Greens to be voted into oblivion at the next election along with the SNP. It worked for the LIbDems after going into coalition with the Tories, after all. I can't believe they think this is vote-winning stuff. A child of six could tell you what's unfair about letting male-bodied adults race against women, surely.

EmpressaurusOfCats · 15/08/2023 08:32

Not sure why he's so against women's rights though.

There was a cartoon a while ago, I think it was by SandyDrawsBadly, with a bloke who wanted to be seen to support women’s rights but without actually having to do it. And someone suggested that he should go TRA & support transwomen. Feels familiar.

RebelliousCow · 15/08/2023 08:35

I had an exchange with a young TRA yesterday. I asked him in what ways he was supportive of women's rights. He said, " I'm pro abortion rights and I support transwomen against morons like you". So articulate!

Most if not all the Greens are list vote MSPs, I think. Which means voting numbers doesn't really matter, or at least, you don't win by a majority.

This is how our nutty PR system is supposed to work; it's intended to deliver coalitions.

I have heard it suggested we were gifted one of the worst PR systems, pour encourager les autres.

Interesting. Harvie must've not got the memo about avoiding drawing attention to the most obviously reality- revealing issues.

Fwiw I've not seen a single friend or acquaintance who hasn't been supportive of the cycle races. This is a tiny group of protestors. Yet some of them are in government - its upside down when fringe extremists get to dictate policy.

I was ruminating earlier ( as cows are apt to do) on the fact that the toddlers have taken control of the nursery, and what's more they are now advising the government and writing policy.

Swamphag · 15/08/2023 09:13

Related to this but more of a general point really, I don't understand how these people don't realise the optics of this type of thing to the voting public or just other people in general. There's never any concession is there? Never any "maybe it's not entirely fair for the female competitors/we know there are some concerns, but this is what we believe in etc". It's just blatant "stfu, you're wrong" So much self-righteousness. Its like dealing with teenagers who are adamant that they're right (but sometimes you see it in their eyes that they know they're wrong but don't want to back down and lose face) and that's fine (frustrating but fine) because they're teenagers. But the likes of Harvey and his ilk and grown arsed responsible adults who can't see that this makes them appear utterly deranged.

Who holds what over these people that it makes them behave in a way that a vast majority of "normal" people see as idiotic? I just don't believe that anybody with a shred of self awareness would behave like this under their own steam. Somebody somewhere is pulling the strings.

I'm fairly opinionated believe what I think is right but I'm always open to the possibility that I'm not and therefore wouldn't grandstand my thoughts/beliefs in such a way on such a public platform.

Sorry this has been a bit rambling (I struggle sometimes with drawing together the threads of my thoughts and tend to waffle on paper/screen as a way of clarifying to myself what I think)

Boiledbeetle · 14/08/2023 22:57

Alas! It's real

I do hope the protesters keep that sign in circulation at all womens sporting events.

Professional sports women should just remember that when it comes to transwomen in sport it doesn't matter if she looses or wins, what matters is if she learns from it or not.

I do note that some people with penis who turn up to protest at women's sporting events have now been allocated a new labled of transpeople by newpaper staff.

I'd say living in echo chambers and bubbles has something to do with it. Trans activists using software to block anyone who might disagree with them on social media, for example.

And then there's confirmation bias, self justification fallacy.

I don't know if anyone is pulling any strings overall - 'never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity'.

Froodwithatowel · 15/08/2023 09:55

I see his point of course. All those women, faffing about on bikes doing nothing useful when they should be being used by male people to good purpose! The signs say it ffs, female type scum, do your job and provide the props and backdrop for male lovely experiences!

And sex definitely isn't binary with male privilege and female dehumanisation, and this definitely isn't male supremacist batshit, and pigs definitely fly backwards over Dundee on Tuesdays singing we'll keep the (multi coloured, changes daily, haven't checked it today) flag flying.

To be honest... I think your comment is offensive to toddlers! 😁My 3 year old DD seems to have a firmer grip on reality than most of the SNP/Green Party/Lib Dem etc etc etc...
