I never watch Strictly, but it seems that her being on it is causing some conflict.

I did a quick look but couldn’t see a thread.

Strictly Come Dancing fans divided as some say they will be avoiding 2023 series

"I’m alright thanks, pal"

Calling her statement an "apology" is biased reporting in my opinion. I saw the video this morning. She's just explaining/defending her views, which haven't changed.

Lookingatthesunset · 07/08/2023 15:49

When did opinions become such an issue?!!

It would be weird if we all thought the same way! I'm sick of it.

IwantToRetire · 07/08/2023 16:44

It’s the BBC that should be making the statements, standing by her.

Exactly.

Not forgetting that we only have the media reporting it has caused a storm.

X Twitter is one of the least used social media platforms, so to base a "news" story on a few deranged X Twitter comments isn't factual news. Its like saying I was in the pub last night and a group of drunk teenagers were going on and on about (something teenagey).

So whilst I am sure there are loads of TRAs bursting with indignation, they are not representative of everybody, and the media really needs to stop inflating their self indulgent self righteousness.

PS totally agree with comment about her parting with MF. At least that must be one area of relief in her life (IMO)!!

How can we support her? I'm thinking of emailing the BBC and asking it to back her and to disavow witch hunts against its contestants.

Also wondering about contacting Dame Caroline Dinenage the chair of the select committee to make sure she knows what's going on. I vaguely know her from a previous job - we met a few times.

Any other ideas? I appreciate mine may be rubbish.

Best way to support her is voting the shit out of it for her every week.

I'm sure all the terfs, me included, will support her. I've seen a few tweets here and there from the Terfdom already.

What was the story about she and MF divorcing? That passed me by

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/08/2023 17:53

Robert Webb was on it two years ago. I know this because it was the first time I had ever watched Strictly and I only started to support him after a similar hissy fit on Twitter when his name was announced. I stuck with it and am now hooked (always late to the party!) so will be voting for Amanda every week, even if she proves to have two left feet.

Robert Webb's heart condition was extremely serious. He was lucky to pull through the surgery he had not all that long before he went on Strictly. I was actually quite surprised he was considered fit enough to do it, as the training looks pretty gruelling.

BeBraveLittlePenguin · 07/08/2023 18:02

One of those authors did a series called Strange worlds for kids. The first one was really interesting. The second one casually had the "male" lead removing a binder after swimming. Didn't get DS the third one.
The author, who is both female and feminine, is apparently NB 🙄

FarEast · 07/08/2023 18:07

She's going to be Fab-u-Lous!

Her son was a performer in the ultimate teen drag show, Everyone's Talking about Jamie. She's not anti-drag; she's just anti-drag for children.

It's interesting - the outcry against her. I wonder how many contestants has held views with which parts of the viewing audience might vehemently disagree.

Yet when it's about these special men and their feelz ....

FarEast · 07/08/2023 18:09

And yes, vote for her every week & use all four of your online votes. I rarely vote under the quarter finals, but this year - it's Amanda Abbington all the way.

If you register via the BBC Strictly website, you can vote online & they give you 4 [I think?] votes.

Lottapianos · 07/08/2023 18:13

I'm pretty sure she has a background in dance so she will be brilliant. I'm a big fan of hers and hope she can handle the (ridiculous) frothing

ethelredonagoodday · 07/08/2023 18:21

I am a massive strictly fan, and I also like AA and I think she's great. I detest it when the shit papers go with these non stories. Most people don't give a flying fuck and just want to watch a tv show. As others have said, she's pretty liberal I would say, and left wing, but like many of us can see the obvious issues around the creep of what is considered acceptable entertainment for children...

3 free votes and you can register multiple accounts, I explained it all in a previous post

IwantToRetire · 07/08/2023 18:34

I've been reading up on how to vote, but am more worried wont be able to at the correct time.

But ... There is part of me that really doesn't want it to turn into a weekly battle between trans vs. terf votes. Because even if most voters are doing it as genuine Strictly fans, you can be sure the media will ramp it up.

Is there anything that trans activism doesn't set out to detroy? It's like Mao's Year Zero.

Talk about a dark cloud of negativity hovering over every thing.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 07/08/2023 20:08

How dare they come for Strictly.

<cracks knuckles>

BaronMunchausen · 07/08/2023 20:19

Adam Maidment is an activist-journalist platformed by Manchester Evening News. On his Twitter/X account he makes casual use of the TERF slur.

Amanda Abbington and Strictly.
IcakethereforeIam · 07/08/2023 20:25

They came for Strictly and I did not speak up because I have two left feet and am allergic to glitter.

I've googled her just to check that MF wasn't Maya.

If I can get the timing right I may vote for her but I agree with a previous poster it shouldn't become a voting war. Do you have to be in this country to vote?

MowingTheTerf · 07/08/2023 20:30

I wonder if the Strictly boycott will be as successful as the Hogwarts Legacy boycott.

BaronMunchausen · 07/08/2023 20:31

This was Maidment's "report" on the vile misogynistic abuse directed at the WPUK conference in Manchester last year. He'd been offered a free press pass to the event but instead hung with the thugs who threatened, abused and drowned out the women speaking inside about...male abuse.

Hundreds march through city centre in protest against transphobia

Woman's Place UK deny the protesters' claims

Off topic sorry but speaking of comedians... if you are GC you will love Micky Flanagan’s new tour. I’ve never laughed/wooped so loud.

Ladyofthelake53 · 07/08/2023 20:49

No one is allowed an opinion these days unless it fits the PC agenda. Its ridiculous

Now that's interesting.

I think he's the guy he did the 'there's going out, and there's going out out' joke?

CaveMum · 07/08/2023 21:00

She recanted once before a few years ago after she dipped her toe in the GC pond but started speaking out again in recent months with more confidence. I’ll certainly be voting for her every week.

This Twitter/X exchange between, I believe, 2 authors is just pathetic, “I’ll consult my kids.” And that is one of the main reasons why we’re in this mess, who uses their kids as the arbiter of wrong and right?!

You’re right, that is pathetic

Lapinski is sadly a children's author. One book in particular is nothing other than trans ideology indoctrination

Cryingbutstilltrying · 06/08/2023 23:48

Because she pointed out on twitter that ‘family’ drag shows weren’t ok?
Yeah, I’m with her.
I love strictly, and I’m sure there will be a mix of contestants who’ve said things that others don’t like. Unfortunately it seems some opinions are aired more aggressively than others. Who knew?!

I'm amazed. I'd have had her down as very 'woke' (this is not a compliment!). Can't be doing with her though over the bankruptcy thing, not that I watch this programme anyway.
