I've been a bit frustrated by the idea that women who are political party members leave their parties in order to make a stand; the greens positively welcomed that. It didn't make much dent in labour's membership.

It was probably worth it in the wep as there's so few of them but again, it means democracy and debate doesn't happen.

I actually have never been a political party member and I don't really do politics a great deal nor understand it, though this debate and issues in my profession force me to note more about how politics works.

I joined to help some fellow local green feminists with votes for various things; just a few extra votes can make a big difference.

I'm appalled at the state of the party and their actions; at the same time using their structures, debate and democracy is the only way to push back.

Another reason I care about the Green Party in particular is that I think younger voters over the never few years will choose the greens and so it's really important this the the party is more reasonable on this issue.

Being reasonable and recognising women's rights is also the only way the greens will begin to be taken seriously by the general voting public.

Now on 537 signatures!

There were over 150 founding signatories - quite an achievement considering it all had to be done in secrecy.
Many more have signed since the website, petition and Twitter account all went live earlier today

I'm proud to be one of the founding signatories as well!

cariadlet · 08/08/2023 02:16

Any other founding signatories in here trying to see if they can guess who anyone is from their username?

I only know the Mumsnet username of one other GC Green and am very curious who else is in here.

But given the current state of the Green Party, none of us can publicly out ourselves!

We have to take back the political parties. ALL of them. We can't easily recapture institutions like Universities but politics is what matters the most both at national and local level. Individual people can fight back by joining and mobilising at locally, online and national meetings in any and every party. The Greens despite their reputation as being ultra progressive, in fact offer what may be one of the best chance of fighting back because of the importance of democracy and free thinking in the green tradition and the party set up.

The Greens democratic structure meant it was impossible for TRAs to do their trick of capturing by brainwashing party elites ala SNP because the system is set up for free thinking and debate. A few hundred new members who turned up, even just to online events, would wreck TRA capture and may even trigger mass flight.

Signed!

BezMills · 08/08/2023 08:33

I signed the declaration because "sex matters". The very next thing I did this morning was to sign up to Virgin Pulse which is some wellbeing thing my work has arranged and encourages us to subscribe to.

My gender identity
Female
Male
I do not identify as Male or Female
I prefer not to answer

I'm not going to pick Male, and therefore implicitly agree that Male is my gender identity. Is it fuck. It's my sex.

Bluowl · 08/08/2023 09:56

I've signed. Couldn't not. We just have to make a stand. Whatever party we are in or support, or not.

BezMills · 08/08/2023 11:34

I'm a long standing green member but I have wobbled on this issue. My local candidate is excellent on most things.

Sadly, we can't.
Damning statement about our party, isn't it.

cariadlet · 09/08/2023 00:58

One day! Maybe.

I do think that things are very slowly, very slightly changing.
I haven't seen much condemnation of the Declaration. Usual suspects have been quiet.

Instructions from leadership? Worries about the court cases?

fromorbit · 09/08/2023 13:04

Declaration has 735 signatures now.

Great article from Shahrar on his case and the Declaration.

The Greens are doing politics differently, but not in a good way

It is not transphobia that is the problem in our party but transphobia smear campaigns and their going unchecked. If my record in an institutionally biased system is anything to go by, the fact that I am still a member of good standing is testament to just how confected the weaponised complaints against me have been – that they would crumble under the sheer weight of cross-examination.

By contrast, I have had complaints upheld with consequence: three members suspended as a result of their transphobia smear campaigns, including an obsessive from the Scottish Green Party who used their rights as a joint member in an attempt to subdue me. Very senior Scottish Green politicians have also made representations about me to my own party.

Interesting there hasn't been that many attacks on the Declaration. I think the TRAs are quietly panicking. Hating anyone secular [religious people apparently are fine] that knows biology is real is not a position that can withstand scrutiny.

Every time their lies come have to be justified in an official account, even internally, they fail.

Twelve days till the first Court Case.

The Greens are doing politics differently, but not in a good way

Allegations of transphobia have been falsified and increasingly weaponised in an attempt to silence critics in the party...

cariadlet · 09/08/2023 22:26

Also good to have a mention in the Glinner Update.

Yes, good to see it was in Glinner's roundup.

Shahrar Ali's case is in less than two weeks. He's still in need of some planting/gardening.

Google 'worth of respect in a political party' to find it.

cariadlet · 10/08/2023 19:06

I've just added a link to the petition in my Twitter bio. I hope that will point a few more people in its direction.
