Signed. I am a former member.

WarriorN · 05/08/2023 12:04

What happened to Dawn is especially horrific. She raised key questions about challenor and was utterly hauled over coals.

WarriorN · 05/08/2023 12:05

Her case is much less well known and the allotment could really do with some help if anyone can, or at least share it.

ArabeIIaScott · 05/08/2023 12:09

If the wider membership were aware of what has been going on I think they'd be shocked.

People within a party are often cautious about sharing bad behaviour to avoid damaging the cause.

I just have to say that is the best username I've seen in ages.

Heh - I'm a regular here who used this username some time ago and thinking of coming back to it, usually every time I see the fox killer mentioned... If I use it a lot I'm sure you'll figure out which unkind viper I am...

Thank you for being a founding signatory and also thanks! - this is the first thread I've ever started and I've been on here since about 2005 a long time

And absolutely delighted to see some names/voices there from the Scottish Green Party, in the comments. Thank you for speaking up.

Bumping this because it’s important it’s as widely publicised as possible.

GCs in the Green Party have got a 2 pronged fight back at the moment.
One is the Green Women's Declaration which was launched yesterday.

The other is being led by Green Party Women. The current committee has a GC majority and is under constant scrutiny from TRAs with vexatious complaints being put in against them and even calls for the group to be disbanded.

They recently held hustings for some internal elections and half of the candidates announced on Twitter that they were not going to attend because it was an unsafe space.
That's because 2 of the question were going to be about women's sex based rights.

A week later, Green Party Women held an EGM. They had well over a hundred members joining in (zoom meeting) including one of the co-leaders who had to listen to dozens of GCs reading statements about how they had been discriminated against and giving ideas about what GPW could do about this.

MsFogi · 05/08/2023 22:17

I wonder if we can look forward to the Women's Equality Party thinking about women's sex based rights at some point.....I'm not holding my breath.

ArabeIIaScott · 05/08/2023 22:43

400!

If the wider membership were aware of what has been going on I think they'd be shocked.

People within a party are often cautious about sharing bad behaviour to avoid damaging the cause.

One of the problems is that people are involved with their local Party and bury their heads in the sand. They don't want to hear what is going on.

I'm in a WhatsApp chat group for my local Green Party. I mention things occasionally such as what happened to Alison Teal or a recent resignation from one of the National committees but whenever I do, one of the other members (who happens to have different views from me about sex and gender) wants to shut the conversation down because I am being negative and sapping morale.

Nobody else wants conflict so they go along with him for a quiet life. It's very frustrating.

@WEPWomen is the Twitter handle for WEP Women's Sex Based Rights Caucus - a group that remembers why WEP was set up in the first place.

WarriorN · 06/08/2023 07:32

400 is brilliant!

There are many, many women (and men) in the greens who absolutely know what a woman is and abhor this authoritarianism.

Some do still need to be quiet on the matter due to the level of their role, which is a big issue. The more members who aren't in those roles who are voting with their vote buttons and joining the discussions, the better.

AtrociousCircumstance · 06/08/2023 11:39

Bump. Get signing! 💪🏼

First article on the Declaration in the Spectator and it is a good one lots of quotes from key women involved:

Imogen Makepeace, a Lewes District Green party councillor echoed that view: ‘Committed GPEW members, like Alison Teal and Emma Bateman, passionate and dedicated to action on climate change, are being all too frequently disenfranchised from their party. This is a bizarre, Kafkaesque situation in what’s supposed to be an open and democratic party.’

Are the Greens more interested in trans rights than saving the planet?
https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/are-the-greens-more-interested-in-trans-rights-than-saving-the-planet/

Prospects for retaking the Greens are good. With the upcoming court cases proving the sexism in the Greens and the coverups like in the Challenor case are going to be a game changer. Neutral people will gradually flip over. Especially as the court cases will make the Greens look bad in the run up to the election.

The Greens are the only party on the left/centre where the official Women's group actually knows what women are and is fighting to defend them. This gives a solid base for expansion.

Gender crit motions have come close to passing at conference.

With an influx of new committed members along with converts there is every indication that gender crits can gain more power in the party. It won't even take many. I think some motions only failed by hundreds of votes.

Key point - the biggest weakness of TRAs is their fanaticism. The Scottish Greens breakaway from GPEW is a great example of this. Gender crit people simply existing drives them crazy. We need to focus on rebranding the Greens as a party full of gender critical people. More and more TRAs will simply leave.

The democratic nature of the Greens structure meant that the authoritarian tactics used by TRAs to take over other parties could not work. They always faced resistance and they found it difficult to discuss and debate. As we know they are terrible at open debate because it exposes their lies so they had to resort to intimidation and abuse of party rules to ostracise people.

Payback is coming.

Are the Greens more interested in trans rights than saving the planet?

Those who fail to toe the line on gender risk being given the boot from the Green party. But shouldn't they focus instead on climate change?

Bluowl · 06/08/2023 17:09

Yes, it is frustrating! But burying head in sand won't work in the long run. Where I am the local party is falling apart, because some tried to pretend it wasn't happening. Things can change though, and this petition is helping.

dinosuitcase · 06/08/2023 17:21

Name changed:

As we know they are terrible at open debate because it exposes their lies so they had to resort to intimidation and abuse of party rules to ostracise people.

Payback is coming.

It definitely is!

I stood for a volunteer role within the local party mainly as there wasn't anyone else bar who was already there and as a neutral candidatenot screaming about lgbtqI+ I won the vote. So clearly a few hundred local greens wanted someone who wasn't banging that drum.

It's got a very democratic structure, we just need more members and more votes would swing.

I didn't attend the recent online meeting when women aired a number of issues and experiences with being silenced for their views but the sheer number who did attend and speak up is very reassuring.

cariadlet · 06/08/2023 17:25

452 signatures now! We need to keep sharing.

If anyone here is a member of GPW and wants to share experiences of discrimination because of their GC views, then you can email GPW up to the end of August.

If anyone is worried about confidentiality (because a couple of the committee are TRAs), then email the GPW Secretary directly.
Email addresses are in recent emails from GPW.
