Labour canvasser today

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 15/07/2023 10:59

I'm in one the constituencies with a by-election coming up.

Just had a labour canvasser (woman, mid/late fifties) knock to ask if I was voting. I said yes I would be.

She asked if I knew who I was voting for. I asked if she knew what a woman was. I told her I was a single issue voter and that was the only issue that was going to decide how I voted.

Her response: "I believe a woman is anyone who believes themself to be a woman".

I told her in that case I have nothing else to say to her, and closed the door.

I would have loved to have actually put some of the issues to her (rapists in prisons, assaults in mixed sex spaces, including schools, destruction of women's sports etc) but my heart was already racing and I knew it would be like talking to a brick wall anyway.

But anyway - at least that's a clear pile in the eye for the whole 'it doesn't come up on the doorstep' nonsense.

So, I'm either voting Tory or SDP.

I'm not sure what to make of that particular panel, myself - can anyone elnlighten us to the views of those particular MPs on this issue?

This committee exists to propose the MPs that will form the committee stage of any bill placed before Parliament. It is a cross-party committee and its decisions are subject to a vote by the whole House.

It has no involvement in the selection of members of Select Committees.

Starmer and Labour will be terrible for women’s rights. They are a full on gender ideology party.

Which is why posters deflect from answering any questions on them, won’t vote for them and generally use anything as a distraction.

SunnyEgg · 18/07/2023 21:14

A pp confirmed Starmer Self ID doesn’t go far enough

He’s not some MP low down and fairly alone on views he’s the leader surrounded by similar views.

What is it people like about that? Nothing.

The distraction has been: "Don't look at what the Tory government are actually doing to women's rights look at what non Tories are saying over there". Usually followed by: "Tory TRAs are not important/ a joke /pose no threat to women."

I've been on these boards for years, no way would any other party get a free pass for putting JW into the HoC, nevermind putting him on Women's and Equalities.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 18/07/2023 21:46

Yes the Tories have been crap for women but Labour will be even worse hence I’ll not be voting for either of them

Thanks for this really useful

Keir Starmer (Labour):

Keir believes that ‘1 in 1,000’ women have a penis.

He proposes banning ‘conversion therapy’, which could criminalise therapists and parents who don’t affirm medical transition.

He supports legislation, which could criminalise misgendering someone.… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

Ed Davey (Liberal Democrats):

Ed believes that women can “quite clearly” have a penis.

He supported Scotland’s attempt to introduce ‘self-ID’ for 16 years old.

He has also accused the government of “assaulting” trans people.

Rishi Sunak (Conservative):

Rishi has said that “100% of women do not have a penis”.

He used Section 35 to block Scotland’s attempt to introduce ‘self-ID’.

He has pledged to protect single-sex spaces for women under law.

He has told schools not to transition pupils.
(10/12)
Notice a difference?

Only one political party currently elected to Westminster stands up for biological reality, child wellbeing and women’s rights.

We need to send a message to those seeking election that they will not get our vote if they push gender ideology.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 18/07/2023 21:50

Wallace is a bellend of the highest order however he was selected by his local Tory party to stand as an MP from a number of potential candidates - lord knows what possessed them but there you go. He was then elected by the ppl of Bridgend who had clearly taken leave of their senses but whatever. He wasn’t plucked off the street and planted in HoC by the government.

the women and equalities committee is a joke so Wallace fits in quite nicely

TooBigForMyBoots · 18/07/2023 21:53

I remember the anger here regarding "Ada Lovelace" and Balloo's child. But JW is not important/ a joke /has no influence /an accidental choice that might be rectified in the future?

Why?

Quite. As things currently stand I've honestly no one to vote for. My only hope is that by the time the election rolls around, this will have become such an obvious vote loser than it'll have been dropped. I have found it v interesting to watch Labour people such as Anneliese Dodds, Wes Streeting & Jess Phillips seemingly shift position towards more of a 'yes of course there are conflicts and women definitely need single sex spaces' which is a world away from the no debate/nothing to see here position of before. And today Laura Pidcock came out v strongly against the 'punch a TERF' statement.

I also find the Rhun ap Iorwerth statements interesting. Nothing really committing either way atm. Plaid have a terrible problem with misogyny anyway, and they've a long way to go in my eyes since their awful treatment of Helen Mary Jones, but I'll be waiting to see what they do on this under his leadership.

TooBigForMyBoots · 18/07/2023 21:56

He was elected by the people of Brigend who had clearly taken leave of their senses...

Maybe they were taken in by the lie "at least the Tories know what a woman is".

CaptainBatEars · 18/07/2023 22:01

Bridgend was formerly Labour before JW. It's a v Brexit-y area so that was part of the reasons behind the result. Welsh Labour are also v different to English/Scottish Labour. Welsh Labour have been running Wales for a while and public services are no better, and in some areas worse than in other parts of the UK. His predecessor also got tarnished by the MP expenses scandal. So not entirely surprising he got in last time, but really unlikely he'll hold that seat given everything that's emerged about him since. I'm not sure why you keep referring back to him. He really isn't the smoking gun you seem to be trying to suggest he is.

TooBigForMyBoots · 18/07/2023 22:02

He is the most powerful TRA in our country.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one. People like Nancy Kelley & Ian Armstrong have far more influence than Jamie Wallace IMO.

CaptainBatEars · 18/07/2023 22:05

He has no more power than next door's cat. Please get a sense of perspective?

TooBigForMyBoots · 18/07/2023 22:15

JW is a sitting MP in the government. He has a seat on Women's and Equalities. He is a necessary vote for the weak PM Sunak. All he has to do is turn up to work in his leather mini skirt and walk into the Ladies.

I have no doubt that when he leaves parliament as She, they will have much more influence. Like Balloo's kid did when they transferred their time, software tech talent to Twitter and Reddit. Being a sitting MP in the government means JW is the most powerful TRA in the country right now and his TRA influence post politics, will be hugely amplified.

Thanks. I thought it was just me. No one takes JW seriously, least of all his own party.

JanesLittleGirl · 18/07/2023 22:57

@TooBigForMyBoots I am trying and failing to understand your position. Please could you help me here?

JW will not, under any circumstances, be an MP after the next election. He has a majority of of about 2k and will be wiped out. He has now and has never had any influence over Tory policy. Nobody even knew that he was 'trans' until his embarrassing car accident.

You have spent the entire thread throwing Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt. Either say that you believe that a Labour government will restore all the factors that have been lost in the last 13 years and women's self-sex rights will be protected or that women's rights are a price worth paying to get the other stuff.

Please stop trying to confuse me?

FigRollsAlly · 18/07/2023 22:58

Boots will now say that they aren’t trying to persuade anyone to vote Labour, just not for the Tories.

Why the fuck would I say that? I am a feminist, not a handmaiden for any political party.
