I’m needing to buy some period pants for my daughter. Can someone remind me which brands are aware women and girls have periods and which to avoid?

uniqlo have some pretty good options (and small sizes for teens). I haven't seen anything odd from their advertising.

frazzledasarock · 28/06/2023 22:20

Primark do period pants. I don’t know if they advertise for women or not.

Sadly Primark have been fans of mixed sex changing rooms iirc.

AmyandPhilipfan · 29/06/2023 01:11

To be fair to Primark they had mixed sex changing rooms before there was much knowledge of being transgender. They did use to be manned though. I'm not sure about now. I had a Saturday job at Primark when I was 17 and we had a rota of hour long shifts supervising the changing rooms. There were individual cubicles.

I think you're focusing on the wrong thing.

Many brands of period pants have been found to have some questionable chemicals in them recently- you should be starting your search with PFAS free pants.

ButtonMoonLoon · 29/06/2023 02:26

I highly recommend the Cheeky Wipes period pants. I was so impressed I bought some for myself as well as my daughter

Both issues can be relevant. It sounds as though women and girls need to be thoughtful about their choice of period pants.

Thanks for the info re pfas. Will look into that.

I do need a very small size.

I don’t think it is the wrong issue. I’m allowed to choose who I spend my money with.

Modibodi have a women's section, can't be clearer than that

gogomoto · 29/06/2023 07:42

Also teen which sounds like you need

TeddyBeans · 29/06/2023 07:49

I think hope wuka is still a safe brand. They do teen and swimwear if you need it

noodles44 · 29/06/2023 07:54

My daughter has modibodi pants, they seem pretty good. I am about to get her swimwear too...

MissSmiley · 29/06/2023 08:15

We looked at these last night for my 13 year old, I've ordered a pack from M&S to try, I was really disappointed with the modibodi website

MargotBamborough · 29/06/2023 08:16

On the off chance that you are going on holiday to France this summer, Monoprix do good ones.

JamMakingWannaBe · 29/06/2023 08:32

How do you find the Amazon sizing and absorbency @walrussy? I have the Primark ones but DH put them in the tumble dryer by mistake and they've lost the elastic at the waistband.

KiteofUncertainty · 29/06/2023 08:37

Cheeky wipes refer to their customers as "menstruators" etc. Steeped in the woo.
I've looked into this a bit but not for teen

KiteofUncertainty · 29/06/2023 08:48

*Not for teens. In general terms I got more joy regarding woman-centred marketing when searching specifically for pants made in the UK or the EU. It brought up smaller businesses, who also as a bonus used less plastic, etc. But as I said, for adults. Although Sisters Republic did some designs which were not specifically for young girls but they looked like the type that would appeal to teens.

modibodi is lost to the gender woo - I use WUKA now

dimorphism · 29/06/2023 09:01

Last time I looked at modibodi they had a transman with mastectomy scars as a model. Butchering healthy bodies isn't something I want modelled to my DDs.

I think sizing is about right. I'm size 8-10 and wear small, and they're a nice, comfortable fit if that's any guide.
Absorbency-wise, I don't think I'd trust them on their own for the first 3ish days, but on lighter days they're okay.
They're good when used with sanitary towels to stop flooding at night.

I shared the link to modi body with my teenage daughter, she messaged back that “they are quite transy” unfortunately so I am still searching for period pants which aren’t promoting an ideology.

This is an article on PFAS and states Modibodi and Wuka as PFAS free.

https://bettergoods.org/best-period-underwear/

Both of those brands use phases including 'people who have periods' in some of their marketing, Wuka donate to Mermaids. Modibodi have sections for Men (incontinence and sweat), Women and all genders. Wuka's shop is segregated by style, flow and collection.

https://sistersrepublic.shop/collections/all. Look good and women centered.

I would say that on the face of their websites, all three look pro women and seem to cover gender identity issues in a fairly balanced way.
