this Canadian ( of course) college tweeted this - it’s a ‘word of the day’ with relation to pride.

and the word for this day is….. lesbian

Am I reading this right - someone who is non-binary can identify as lesbian but can't identify as a gay male? Or are they covered by "identifies as a member of the gay community" interesting that the NB situation is explicitly stated in the description of lesbian but isn’t referred to at all in the gay description.

Yes. This difference in the treatment is now quite common and such a clear sign of sexism or at least a difference in how inclusive the two sexes are supposed to be.

For two examples, here's Vanity Fair a year ago:

A lot of people are extremely upset about this because, among other things, they think the government should not get to treat 50% of the population like second-class citizens, and that pregnant people should be allowed to decide what to do with their own bodies, just like men can decide to, say, have a vasectomy without a bunch of elected officials weighing in.

And this is from last summer, too. The site later changed the language, but the url retains it:
