@Namastaymyassathome They do it with other cultural groups like Hijiras in India and these groups probably aren’t aware of how they’re being used. They just use them to further their own position.

BreviloquentBastard · 09/06/2023 15:14

The very existence of the phrase "non-man" means that something called "a man" must exist. So we're still allowed to call men, men. But women must now be non-men? How can they not see how pants on head stupid this is? How backwards, to insist on everyone being referred to by whether or not they're a man?

ThomasinaLivesHere · 09/06/2023 15:16

@BreviloquentBastard It’s the kind of stupidity that happens when you don’t listen to any criticism and live in an echo chamber.

It's the same flaw in all of their thinking.

The genderists claim their new concepts of gender are valid and the old ideas of sex aren't, but their new ideas only work because everyone still has the old meanings based on sex to provide some context to the words.

(Obvious really, because if these things they claim they believe were really nothing to do with sex, they wouldn't have picked the existing names of the sexes).

Without that context, there would be no definition of "man" or "woman" at all, so we'd never have had "Women's sports", "Women's spaces" or "women's rights" for anyone to identify into in the first place.

forgotmyusername1 · 09/06/2023 14:56

please state your pronouns

'I am not a man'

to be completely correct

I/am/not/a/man/!

Iafontaine · 09/06/2023 19:10

I guess that's the only response now to the contentious nature of our existence
"what are you?"
"well I can only safely say I'm not a man"

nepeta · 09/06/2023 19:13

The UK Greens famously proposed using 'non-man' as the term to replace 'women'. I believe that in both these cases, and others I have seen, this is because of nonbinaries.

Had they used 'women' in that definition (the example this thread is about), it would have defined a Lesbian relationship heterosexual if one of them identifies as nonbinary and the other one nonbinary, say.

But it's all rubbish, anyone who tries to think through what happens when sexual orientation is replaced with genderual orientation will come across so many contradictions that none of it will end up making any sense at all.

Still, it IS interesting that we never see 'non-woman' used. That is because men matter more. This is very very clear in social media, and especially among the younger generation (including, very much, younger women), though it's probably not something people are usually aware of.

Exactly. Medical transitioning makes no sense without that underlying belief, sex-segregated sports, rape refuges, toilets etc. make no sense without that underlying belief.

Indeed, the whole gender identity framework is crucially dependent on the existence of the group they have assigned most of us to: The 'cis', but they really mean biological sex classes.

ISaySteadyOn · 13/06/2023 18:42

I know the thread has moved on' but one absolutely essential song has been missed.

How could you all forget Aretha Franklin's classic 'You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Non-man'?!

I mean, really.

Isthisreasonable · 13/06/2023 18:47

My house is semi-detached. Does that mean it is in a lesbian relationship with the house next door?

MissingLesbianSpaces · 13/06/2023 18:57

At this point, let the men who dress as puppies, the "spicy" straights, and the corporations have the entire LGBTQ. I will stick to my lesbian, bi and straight friends who are NOT sexist homophobes. Decades of being out, all to become a non-man? Fuck off.

Moonandstarz · 13/06/2023 20:38

@MissingLesbianSpaces well said.

PotteringPondering · 13/06/2023 21:15

No non-man, no cry.

Florissante · 13/06/2023 21:52

I had non-ice cream for supper this evening. I'll probably have the same for breakfast tomorrow morning.

Singleandproud · 13/06/2023 22:33

So my 13 year old DD (who says she is a lesbian and has had a girlfriend for 6 months - pretty sure it's just close friends at this stage) has informed me that as the OP stated a Lesbian is now a non-man that is attracted to another Non-man, and that now a woman attracted to a woman is a Saphic.

When I questioned what that meant for bi and pan sexual I just got an eye roll and a "I'm sorry my generation is changing language to be inclusive to everyone men!

She has ASD and is fully devoted to the LGBT...... + community and I'm just thrilled that she hasn't come out as trans yet, but dear God the world has gone mad. I'm hoping it goes so mad that it eventually implodes.

Moonandstarz · 13/06/2023 22:39

@Singleandproud can I ask is her main source of information social media, lgbtq chat rooms or from just hanging around with pals?

Sunnyjac · 13/06/2023 22:50

@Isthisreasonable what does that mean for link-detached and terraced houses?!

Isthisreasonable · 13/06/2023 23:30

Sunnyjac · 13/06/2023 22:50

@Isthisreasonable what does that mean for link-detached and terraced houses?!

I kind of think terraced are swingers and li k detached are exploring their sexuality? How about you?

Isthisreasonable · 13/06/2023 23:31

Link detached obviously, lik detached is possibly too graphic! 😁

Singleandproud · 13/06/2023 23:40

@moonandstarz her friends, her school, LGBT+ club within school, social media in terms of memes etc shared between her friend group on WhatsApp, she doesn't use other social media platforms.

She seems to borrow others trauma if you like and often talks of hardships and prejudice towards the LGBT+ community as if she's experienced it herself, Stonewall riots etc. No doubt there has historically been issues and continues to be and it is important to learn about it but none that she has directly experienced.

Alot of it is her ASD, I know that and she can't see a negative side to being inclusive to everyone and accepting and accomodating them in the way the individual wants and on any other issue I'd be fiercely proud of her actions and her principles. But I am very GC and have been for years and this Newspeak grates I hope that with a few more years she'll come out the other side.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 13/06/2023 23:46

But I thought lesbians were recently-converted - to - women who ( still ) fancied women. A la Lia and numerous other luminaries. Isn’t this something different? Non men and non men but with different equipment…..oh it’s all too confusing for me. I need Mandy and Merlin to explain it.

@Singleandproud thanks for the reply, my dc are younger but I'll be navigating it all soon enough I'm sure. It looks like the influences are coming at your dd from all angles... There seems to be new terms every day eg Non Man.. And another letter or symbol added to soup every second day.. I think it's purposely confusing tbh..

Sunnyjac · 14/06/2023 05:19

@Isthisreasonable 🤣 I think we’ll have to let the link-detached figure it out and not watch the terraces.

On a more serious note it feels like all this language is just getting more and more confusing. I’ve not heard the term sapphic before but looking it up now I’ve just read the following:

“The peer-led sex education advocate Katie Haan told Them that being sapphic means having a “community where everyone has a mutual understanding of what it means to experience attraction, love, sexual desire, romance, community, friendship, companionship, inspiration and creativity through a similar lens, on our terms.””

To me that reads as a lot of words not actually explaining anything different to how most people want to and do experience their lives. From the same article:

“For me, sapphic evokes the soulful, “I want a cottage core lifestyle on a farm with just us” type of emotions that I feel for my femme partner.”

?

I have now also been introduced to the terms transmascs and trans femmes as seemingly distinct to trans men and trans women. It feels, from my perspective, like you can make up a term and a meaning and use endless words to validate this. I too am very worried about my three girls at the beginning of their adolescence 😔

Moonandstarz · 14/06/2023 07:44

@Sunnyjac same. I have girls too & I'm very concerned. I think all this language is deliberately confusing. A new term or letter is constantly cropping up to keep it cool & relevant for adolescents.. Gay, lesbian or bi just doesn't cut it anymore..
I'm really hoping the tide will have well & truely turned by the time mine are ready for secondary.. It's happening already.

Here's a clever university guide to help us understand...
