Single sex social groups / ventures - legal? Possible?

I've had some ideas for a while now to start a social group around a hobby of mine, and a potential business. This would be in the U.K. I don't want to reveal too much information so please understand why I need to be vague about some things.

I would be interested in catering to women only for the business for safety reasons, as I'd be the sole business owner catering to clients by myself. It's not a massage or home based beauty therapy, but that would give you a fair idea of the risk I could be exposed to.

The social group/s would cater to women in a certain age. I'd be interested in exuding men as it would be about a hobby that is very male dominated (I would estimate 70 - 90% in some groups). Not only that, but it tends to draw a certain type of man that I'm certain would really put off most female attendees, especially if quite a few started to attend.

So....my question is are the current laws surrounding setting up such single-sex ventures in the U.K?

I kinda feel bad for all the gentleman’s clubs now.

Me not so much since they had the power and were able to carve out lucrative deals in smoke-filled rooms.

The Masonic lodges in the UK admit women nowadays - but only the ones born with penises, of course...!

The "women of a certain age" in your OP intrigues me EarthSight.

Is this a euphemism for "perimenopausal"?

Lol no, not an euphemism. You can take it to mean women of a defined age bracket.

I ran a group once, and I decided who got to join it by running it through a meetup group. If you require members to fill in a form, you can vet them. If men try to join, you can ignore them. I would use simple language and give the group a name that is somewhat disguised, u less you think you need to advertise? Could you promote it at first through places that likely only women go to, rather than advertising online? Sweaty male nerds (if it is that type) don't tend to read noticeboards or talk to people I real life so will not be on their radar if you go through more traditional advertising routes.

Are there any local women's groups you can scope out like the WI? Do you think there are that many TRAS in the area anyway?

I had an issue with people joining who were just repulsive individuals and I told them not to return, removed from the group. Rarely got any fuss and you just need a thick skin to run a community group. Whether male or female.

Sorry post may be incoherent, toddler bedtime chaos

Another tip is to just try it, see what happens. If you get infiltrated take any female members and create a secret group and disappear poof

There was a post in my local FB group asking if there would be interest in a woman only gym. Lots of women saying yes, they find the men intimidating even if they are being nice etc.. Then a couple people brought up the inclusion of trans women side of it. All using the words gender instead of sex. Completely derailed the discussion to how hard it is for trans women to go to the gym so a women only gym would be so helpful for them. (Then there was a male gym owner starting posting excessively about how inclusive his gym is and how all the women who attend love it.... This FB group is called 'town mums') I think if you advertise in any way you will have to face this question fairly quickly and if you say biological sex you will be challenged. I doubt my local town is getting a woman only gym sadly

I reckon on social media the best response is 'yeah sure, all women welcome' to shut up wokies. If there are no actual trans people asking to join then they are just boring Internet idiots. If a trans woman does ask to join, you can explain your female only policy then.
