Whistleblowers at EHRC say that Kishwer Falkner is the victim of a 'witch-hunt by trans lobby'

IwantToRetire · 23/05/2023 01:36

Relations are said to have soured after she backed legal reforms guarding the rights of biological women in single-sex spaces such as hospital wards and toilets.

The employees at the Equality and Human Rights Commission are said to have compiled a dossier, setting out more than 40 complaints aimed at Baroness Falkner by a dozen current and former colleagues. A source said: 'People within the organisation are deeply concerned that this is a witch-hunt.

'The timing is extremely questionable. There is no doubt in my mind that this is ideologically motivated and is a way to take a scalp in revenge. ...

Baroness Falkner is said to have been left 'heartbroken' by the allegations but those close to her said her 'conscience was clear'. They branded the move by EHRC staff a 'failed coup d'etat'.

Members of the commission's board, which is headed by Baroness Falkner, have called for an overhaul of the 2010 Equality Act, which refers to gender and sex interchangeably.

They argue it should be amended to explicitly define sex as 'biological sex' to bring legal clarity in areas including sport and ensure only 'biological women' can use single-sex spaces.

Staff from the executive team were said to having been pushing to allow for gender self-identification, allowing trans people to state their chosen gender without any medical diagnosis.

A second source said: 'The executive just refused to accept the board's decision. There were strenuous efforts to reject it and it was around this time allegations were starting to be made.

'There is a very progressive, activist-inclined staff who are influenced by organisations and groups like Stonewall.'

The source said senior executives had grown accustomed to calling the shots at the commission but this changed when Baroness Falkner took over to provide 'real leadership'.

They said the complaints felt like a move to 'get her', adding: 'This process of finding fault with Kishwer is clearly political.' The dossier is said to have made claims of discrimination, including transphobia, bullying and harassment. ...

You have to wonder if the previous setup was that some of the staff did the bidding of lobbyists. And now that's being changed.

They were lobbyists - it was chaired by the chair of Stonewall.

When this is happening in a place like the EHRC that is expressly designed to balance the needs of certain groups, it crystallises the arguments.

When TRAs have to deal with the fact that women are also protected, legally, and they are talking to the body set up to ensure it, the agenda is revealed.

The obvious and fair argument is the concept of a third space. It protects both groups. Equally.

The fact that this is unacceptable makes it clear that the actual space, a toilet, a changing room, a sports team, where a transwoman can operate, is simply not desirable.

The presence of women is required for the validation. That, and only that, is the goal.

Everyone understanding this can't come quick enough.

There's another thread on the piss protest, linking to this thread, one part of which now reads different in light of the information about EHRC staff:

"So the operational head of the EHRC has no answers yet sits silently while his organisation plays a key part in stripping rights and protections away from trans people. It's absolutely disgusting."

Blimey that tweet thread

I then asked how I, as a trans woman, would be able to live any form of public life if I was effectively barred from women's spaces

you use the gents Helen. You’ll be fine

Seriously? And there was no issue seen there, of conflict of interest?

Clymene · 23/05/2023 12:21

I would be willing to bet a substantial sum of money that no one has ever thought that Belcher was female.

SinnerBoy · 23/05/2023 12:34

So the operational head of the EHRC has no answers yet sits silently while his organisation plays a key part in stripping rights and protections away from trans people.

Hmm. The head of the EHRC has pointed out that transw are not and have never been entitled to some the rights which they have claimed and has now clarified the situation.

SinnerBoy · 23/05/2023 12:35

ResisterRex sorry, I seem to have called you "Register" earlier, it wasn't deliberate!

I used to know Kish years and years ago, but lost touch. She was great then. Straightforward, honest, funny and intelligent, with a well camouflaged streak of determination. (Her early journey including leaving Pakistan to work in Saudi as a teenager, then to a senior position in the UK and later onto the LSE as a mature student.) I had no idea what happened to her, but was really pleased to see her appointed to this role. No way is she a bully. You do not succeed in a male dominated culture like Saudi without a good level of diplomacy.

I have been meaning to send a thank you card for ages. This sounds like the right time.

Indeed.

Belcher et al never tire of hyperbolic crybullying and weaponising their self proclaimed vulnerability.

The act is wearing very thin...

Helen Belcher is a leading LibDem, current Councillor and former Parliamentary candidate. A party that has apparently just changed their stance of TWAW.

If they are sincere in this, and my guess is that the reason for the reverse ferret were the number of times LibDems were asked when canvassing during recent local elections, perhaps they should do more to publicly support Lady Falkner. After all she is a senior, and well regarded, LibDem peer.

Boiledbeetle · 23/05/2023 13:15

At some point all this ridiculous back stabbing from the TRAs is going to backfire badly. They come across more and more demented every time they fail to bully people into accepting their narrative. Whilst we can see it for what it is their complaints and their protests are just getting more unhinged that even the most unaware people are going to start to realise that there is something seriously not right with the TWAW narrative.

That time can't come soon enough.

Shelefttheweb · 23/05/2023 13:25

Aparty that has apparently just changed their stance of TWAW.

Nope, libdems have just bedded in on TWAW. Apparently clearly some women have a penis according to them.

Such a bloody nerve, isn't it! No, belcher. Women and their spaces aren't designed for your validation.

Get over it.

IwantToRetire · 23/05/2023 16:41

Haven't had time to look into this more since posting the link last night so thanks for all the additional info links.

Also, this explains that strange statement last week (I know there's a thread on here about it) and I remember asking what's this about, why is she saying this now.

Presumably that was her public statement to all the conspirators at the EHRC.

But it does make you realise just how effective trans activists have been in the past decade or more, that they are now so embedded in so many influential organisations that those of us who never realised what was going on behind the scenes, assumed would be there to protect us.

How long is it going to take to get this 5th column out of their bunkers in so many strategic institutions.

At what point does Nancy Kelly stand up and confirm she does not condone the sort of protest that EHRC and Falkner face. Stonewall's silence is deafening. They unleached the Kraken.

Clymene · 23/05/2023 18:15

You could probably use her Dolores Umbridge tinkly laugh when she was on Woman's Hour as an aural torture device

I am wondering whether to make a complaint

[email protected]

Along the lines that, until Baroness Faulkner appeared, the EHRC had underserved the protected category of "sex", which is embedded in equalities legislation for a reason. I am extremely disappointed to learn that there are now attempts to hound Baroness Faulkner out of her job from within the EHRC for simply trying to ensure that there is a proper public consultation about whether there should be adequate legal protection for a minority group in the event of a conflict of rights with another group.

Anyone else?

I'm actually thinking more of sending a message of support.

The EHRC have taken their time getting on top of these issues; they're not quite there yet, however I think they've finally started to see the problems and address them. So I'd rather thank them for what they're doing now than make a retrospective complaint.
