Lib Dems drop Self ID as a policy - Another win !

The latest huge U-turn the Lib Dems have apparently dropped self ID for transgender people from their future policies according to Lib Voice for Women.

After the SNP disaster no-one is keen to talk about it openly. Other unlikely ideas still being backed though.

Meanwhile in Scotland the Scottish LibDem leader willie_rennie is backtracking like mad over the latest horrific crime which men dressing as women helped lay the ground for. Pity he vote for a self id bill with no safeguards.

I hope it carries through to the manifesto. I'm quietly hopefully, as I recently floated all of this past our LibDem candidates in the local election and got very good answers: one had seen the shit-show with pink leggings man north of the border which had really brought home to him what a fiasco it would be. They have a foothold here, as they have a 40 year track record of doing excellent work at district level (one of the local Tories has form for trying to take the credit).

I'll be keeping my eyes open. Might even have someone to vote for at the GE.

ArabeIIaScott · 19/05/2023 09:31

Good to see. Although the duplicitous, vindictive bastards deserve to give women an apology for all the shite they've flung at us for the past few years, just for daring to ask questions about the removal of women's rights.

yeh I can’t forget this. From Labour too

If they do admit they were wrong, we had to endure insult and injury as they rode rough shod over women. And told us not to talk about it

They can bog off.

ArabeIIaScott · 19/05/2023 09:34

I don't know if they realise how much damage they've done to their parties over this.

ArabeIIaScott · 19/05/2023 09:36

If any one of these parties thinks they can just brush aside the horrific treatment of women who dared raise these issues, if they think they can just nod and change tack and nobody will notice they can fuck right off.

We want investigations. We need a 'Truth and Reconciliation' process. Why the fuck would women trust any of these lying bastards ever again?

Slothtoes · 19/05/2023 09:44

Absolutely agree re need for truth and reconciliation process with all the parties. Yes.
I want a choice of people to vote for, like we’re all supposed to have in a democracy, please.

LizzieSiddal · 19/05/2023 09:45

I think we need to compile a list of all the times MPs, party members, and organisations such as BBC, NSPCC, etc etc have dismissed women's concerns and called us bigots. It will be a bloody long list!

'Discrimination against LGBT+ people is still far too commonplace in the UK - particularly against the trans community. We’re even seeing this at the hands of the Conservative Government, who have dithered and delayed on important progress like gender recognition reform and banning conversion therapy. And with trans hate crimes on the rise, we are seeing too clearly the harmful effects this rhetoric can have on our society.'

International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia

I will keep fighting for the rights of the entire LGBT+ community, until true equality is achieved.

You know what, I think THEY need to do it.

They need to make the fucking effort. They need to make reparation. Investigate what the fuck they have done, and in some cases, are still doing.

Chrysanthemum5 · 19/05/2023 09:57

I don't believe them. I think they know it is a vote loser with the public, but they are captured by a vocal minority who will never let it drop. They've just gone for the strategy of not talking about it publicly.

Plus even if they have dropped it, they need to return us to the point we were before this started

I don’t think they’ve changed their position

ArabeIIaScott · 19/05/2023 10:01

No, I don't think they have either.

zibzibara · 19/05/2023 10:03

Also they're doing the usual rhetorical trick of "LGBTQ+", using lesbian, gay and bisexual people as a shield for the unpalatable queer theory inspired policies. As if being beaten up by homophobic thugs for being gay is somehow equivalent to a man being stopped from entering a women's changing room, or even worse, being misgendered.

anyolddinosaur · 19/05/2023 10:05

local lib dems dont respond to emails about anything trans and when canvassing and I mentioned it they ran away as fast as they could. Untrustworthy liars - unfortunately so are the conservatives who have not reformed the equality act.

TheBiologyStupid · 19/05/2023 12:25

Dwtes8 · 19/05/2023 01:39

It’s a win for the Lib Dem’s. They are known as the liars of British politics for a reason. They will continue to push this in the institutions quietly and then vote for it when elected because they believe in it and don’t care what their voters think. If they would sign personal pledges on tuition fees for the students then vote to treble them they will lie to women’s rights campaigners for sure.

Absolutely. Not sure there's enough salt in the oceans to take this sudden change of heart with.

bellinisurge · 19/05/2023 12:37

It's a start. A good start but only a start.

RoyalCorgi · 19/05/2023 12:54

Looking at the rest of their pledges, there are a couple that make me roll my eyes. One is the plan to introduce an "X" gender option on passports. What use could this be apart from making it easier for criminals to commit fraud?

They also want to offer asylum to people fleeing the risk of violence because of gender identity, thus offering a handy, un-disprovable ground for asylum to anyone who wants to migrate to the UK.

SmoothSeasDoNotMakeGoodSailors · 19/05/2023 13:00

Ed Davey is a weasel. I don't trust him for a minute. Does he even know the history behind the Love Is Love placard he is holding?

It really is a possibility with a coalition result.

Wonderful

Davey was minister for Energy and Climate Change when he had his "Oh shit!" moment when discovering that the Drax power station had a higher carbon footprint after switching from coal to wood pellets, and then carried on regardless by pretending that everything was fine. (To be fair, no-one with responsibility for energy has been prepared to grasp that particular nettle despite the even worse information that has come out subsequently about Drax and its fuel supplies etc.)

I'm not holding my breath for another round of The Sorry Song.

I have to confess that I have a soft spot for the LibDems - Poole harbour.

They'd be my party of choice had they not collectively surrendered their brains and hearts to this mad orthodoxy.
