@toomanytrees I would entirely agree with this. I know of someone who is partway through a PhD at Oxford, after a lengthy academic career. I'm sure she is studying, but her primary role is training the next generation of activists. Literally lecturing on how to behave when arrested, what to say to the police, and so on. She has multiple convictions for supergluing herself to stuff and otherwise being annoying but, if you challenge her views at all, she bursts into tears and tells you she feels threatened.

It really is immensely tedious and it is very much both learned and taught.

I wonder if part of what is going on here is arrested development and these students wanting to cling onto childhood a bit longer. I happened to attend an lgbt event at Oxford. There was no drinking, that wouldn’t be a safe space. It was filled with nerdy looking women and men who a few years ago would probably have been emo. Lots of dyed hair, rainbow hoodies, pokemon t shirts. The activity was crafting and colouring and making plush toys. It really didn’t seem like the kind of social event that students usually do.

I was there 30 years ago. We weren't the average student then, either. Lots of geeky stuff- board games, role playing games, larping, drama, music, debate... there used to be an annual city wide water pistol hunt that ran over a month on an elimination basis.

No dancing. No clubbing. Lots and lots of talking and silliness.

ProudTERFcousin · 21/05/2023 21:30

I'll be sending him this thread he did well.

Should have come out with the town lot rather than the gown we knew how to party 20+ years ago.

pickledandpuzzled · 21/05/2023 21:35

Reckon you did! I couldn't get over the lack of clubbing! Lots of house parties, but also lots of Mandelbrot sets and classical music.

pickledandpuzzled · 21/05/2023 21:36

Oh and the punting...

I feel really old now.

That's brilliant 😂 just sent my aunt this thread she'll be chuffed with his MN rating.

I'd like to have met Billboard Chris gutted I wasn't in town today.

Here is Chris's youtube clip from GB News.

Very articulate bloke. Not a wasted word.

It's such a relief to see such a knowledgeable, insightful police officer in action - and dealing so effectively with those overgrown toddlers.

SinnerBoy · 21/05/2023 23:33

@WickedSerious

I'd venture that a lot of them cut their own hair in the dark too.

As an ex girlfriend used to say:

It looks like she put her makeup on in the dark. Sat in a rocking chair, wearing boxing gloves.

teezletangler · 22/05/2023 00:08

Thanks datun for posting that excellent interview. He is able to cut straight to the point. "I believe there are 2 sexes, 0 genders and infinite personalities". Yes!

Love that the police officer has a Mumsnet connection!

Mytholmroyd · 22/05/2023 19:59

A big bunch of flowers for your cousin @ProudTERFcousin 💐 oh and a beer! 🍺

Infinite personalities- love it! Much better than infinite genders.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 23/05/2023 19:48

Is he in Ireland still
