Victor Madrigal-Borloz's (UN) verdict on the UK: 'Keep calm and respect diversity'

ArabeIIaScott · 12/05/2023 09:04

I'm going to give Mr Madrigal-Borloz the benefit of the doubt, and presume he was trying to make a gentle joke on UK culture with his 'Keep calm' headline, rather than deliberately offend women.

Anyway:

https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2023/05/uk-keep-calm-and-respect-diversity-says-un-expert

“I am deeply concerned about increased bias-motivated incidents of harassment, threats, and violence against LGBT people, including a rampant surge in hate crimes in the UK,” said Victor Madrigal-Borloz, the UN Independent Expert on protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, who visited the UK from 24 April to 5 May 2023. “All of this is attributed – by a wide range of stakeholders – to the toxic nature of the public debate surrounding sexual orientation and gender identity,” he said.
...

'toxic', eh?

'current initiatives risk erosion of achievements in comprehensive sex education,'

  • presumably by this he means recent moves to question whether it's a good thing to teach children about fisting?
...

'The expert also took issue with recent advice by the UK Equalities and Human Rights Commission to the UK Government that promoted the reduction in human rights protections for trans persons with legal recognition of their gender. “These actions were admittedly with the objective of withdrawing trans women from legal protections to which they are entitled under the Equality Act,” Madrigal Borloz said.'

Well, that's a wilful misrepresentation if ever I read one.

'“Politicians must carry out evidence-based evaluations, free from stigma and preconception,” Madrigal-Borloz said.'

Cheeky fucker.

UK: Keep calm and respect diversity, says UN expert

Our overlords have spoken.

I do hope all you uppity women take note.

Diversity MUST be obeyed respected.

(well unless its diversity of thought, belief or being Russian, then its bigotry all the way!)

SqueakyDinosaur · 12/05/2023 09:10

My verdict on Victor Madrigal-Borloz: He is a patronising, ignorant, blinkered idiot with no respect for women’s rights.

My verdict on Victor Madrigal-Borloz: He is a patronising, ignorant, blinkered idiot with no respect for women’s rights.

The evidence I've seen so far would support this assertion.

Amusing, but such full-on nonsense will cause people to question the value of organisations like the UN. One person cannot represent the whole of one organisation and I'm sure it's not a monolith, but at the same time the UN as an organisation needs to give its head a wobble.

ResisterRex · 12/05/2023 09:17

I'd also question the appropriation of one of our most famous wartime pitches to the public. If the UK, a largely white country, did this to another country there would be outrage. He should apologise for this.

Rightsraptor · 12/05/2023 09:24

You may be kind enough to give the man the doubt, @ArabeIIaScott, but I won't.

ArabeIIaScott · 12/05/2023 09:33

I wonder if we can ask Reem Alsalem to come and do a report on the UK situation for women and girls. Is there one of these Rapporteurs for children, too?

Nancy Kelly:

're: EHRC advice on "biological sex": "The objective of the EHRC was to offer the govt a formula by which it could carry out discriminatory actions, currently unlawful under UK law, and that will remain unlawful under international human rights law"

'So the UN Independent Expert condemns this move as discriminatory and outside of international law. The Scottish and Welsh Committees of the EHRC advised against it on the grounds it would restrict the human rights of trans people, and damage the reputation of the institution'

'And civil society opposes this move, which is clearly intended to restrict trans people's rights in a way that impacts on their day to day life. This is not a functioning independent human rights institution.'

A Mumsnet poster * recently described diversity as : -
People who look different but think the same things and condemn anyone who thinks differently. Which is the opposite of diversity.

  • Sorry I can't recall the name - but you are brilliant!
ArabeIIaScott · 12/05/2023 09:46

They're calling single sex-exemption 'discriminatory' and claiming this is illegal under international law.

What does she mean by 'civil society'?

Ah, Kelley means 'the third sector'. Which I'm starting to think of as a kind of govt funded mafia for certain orthodoxies.

And some of Victor's wee pals have written a letter supporting his statement:

I wonder whether this is a secondary objective of this ideology.

People will indeed begin to question the value of organisations and civic institutions that hold positions detrimental to their wellbeing and that of the vulnerable members of their families.

It's flickered across my mind numerous times that if you wanted to undermine public support for the NHS and state education, then imposing gender ideology within those contexts would be a very effective way of doing it.

In reality, very few parents would be happy about sending their child to a school where there's a high risk they may be socially transitioned without parental consent and introduced to ideas about physically harmful medication and surgery.

The same goes for the NHS. GIDS has caused untold damage to the faith and trust people have in the NHS.

lifeturnsonadime · 12/05/2023 09:58

I can keep calm and respect diversity if those who are diverse will keep calm and respect my wishes to retain single sex spaces, and would stop encouraging children to start on pathways which lead to medication.

The UN really does hate women. What a joke.

100%

Organisations that are invested with power have to be kept rigorously vigilant to corruption and take-over.

nilsmousehammer · 12/05/2023 10:06

Diversity matters, but only for T male people.

Diversity needs for females, homosexuals, children....?

No, they just need to stop toxically wanting things like equality.

nilsmousehammer · 12/05/2023 10:07

I swear, most of the people leading these organizations are absolutely bonkers. Completely round the twist. They're not even aware of the irony of their own double standards within their own writing. It's staggering.

TheBiologyStupid · 12/05/2023 11:45

I'm quite staggered by that, tbh. Has he actually read the Equality Act? Does he think no legal bods in the UK have read it?

In Costa Rica
‘However, work still needs to be done in Costa Rica to achieve gender equality. In 2018, 7.2% of women aged 15-49 years reported that they had been subject to physical and/or sexual violence by a current or former intimate partner in the previous 12 months. Also, women and girls aged 10+ spend 23.5% of their time on unpaid care and domestic work, compared to 8.2% spent by men.
As of december 2020, only 54.1% of indicators needed to monitor the SDGs from a gender perspective were available, with gaps in key areas, in particular: information and communications technology skills. In addition, many areas – such as gender and poverty, physical and sexual harassment, women’s access to assets (including land), and gender and the environment – lack comparable methodologies for reguar monitoring. Closing these gender data gaps is essential for achieving gender-related SDG commitments in Costa Rica.’

to the toxic nature of the public debate surrounding sexual orientation and gender identity,” he said.

What debate is there about sexual orientation? This is the usual coupling to get “gender identity” or T into the sentence less noticeably.

Gender identity ideology is not helpful to gay people. It may lead to converting otherwise physically healthy gay people into pretend heterosexual, physically damaged versions of their former selves.
