Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

I wish them luck. I understand the need for frameworks to be in place to enable action to be taken for children living in abusive situations as dealing with parents isn't always the best thing. But this complete take over of our parental rights to the state is a horror story. We do not send our kids to school to be absolved of all responsibility and decision making. We send them to be educated so they have a future. Things have gone too far. We need our parental responsibility and rights back. And those decisions don't need the approval of anyone else. They are only the business of the family.

Helleofabore · 30/04/2023 12:19

I shall be watching closely too.

ArabeIIaScott · 30/04/2023 12:19

I'll be very interested to see how the various teachers' unions respond to this.

nilsmousehammer · 30/04/2023 12:22

Me too Arabella

But this was always going to be the inevitable end point of being too afraid of a politically lobby to do the job properly. Parents/reasonable voices have been easier to upset because they are reasonable, and most agencies, government included, have dithered and dithered in unwillingness to do anything unpopular. But I cannot see that this is going to stand up in law, or the DfE won't be found to have failed to act as they should have done.

They may studiously ignore it

Flowerly · 30/04/2023 12:32

I think that the unions are extremist enough to come out and defend what schools/teachers have been doing.

Even though some of them have been saying this isn't happening, I can see this too!

KCandtheSunlightBand · 30/04/2023 12:39

Is there any gardening required?

WarriorN · 30/04/2023 12:42

Good. I too imagine unions will ignore

BonfireLady · 30/04/2023 12:53

This is a fantastic step forward. I hope this gets more coverage as a story in the main stream media.

Thank you Sanchez Manning! Calling out the psychological harm backed by examples of where this has gone against NHS advice is a great way to position it. I think it would have also been helpful to make the link between a social transition and children who then go on to a medical pathway that has irresponsible consequences (including sterilisation at a young age) but it's still a great article. If this story gets legs in the media's attention, I'm sure it won't be long until that angle is added, so perhaps bite sized chunks of information is a good idea.

Fingers crossed for widespread coverage and good luck to the parents and their legal teams who are involved 🤞🤞

BonfireLady · 30/04/2023 12:56

*irreversible consequences

(Auto correct fail 🤦‍♀️)

Ofcourseshecan · 30/04/2023 12:56

Thank god, and best of luck to the parents.

I’m ready for gardening, if they launch a crowdjustice funder. This is well worth a donation.

Rightsraptor · 30/04/2023 13:00

I wonder if this means Gillian Keegan has finally been persuaded (by Kemi, I would guess) that this is really serious and she actually needs to do something.

Boiledbeetle · 30/04/2023 13:00

This will be interesting.

I'm actually shocked that teachers ever thought it a good idea to keep such a big secret from parents.

Having had the pleasure of a long walk home with my head of year next to me to inform my mother of something I'd said as school, (I begged her, cried, etc, not to have to tell my mum. She even gave me a week to tell her myself). But no matter how much I protested safeguarding meant the teacher had to tell my mother.

And that was despite knowing my mother was not going to be happy and I was likely to suffer fallout from it at home.

Teachers should not keep secrets from pupils parents.

TeenDivided · 30/04/2023 13:00

Surely schools / teachers unions will say 'we were following guidance from Stonewall / EDI groups', and Stonewall etc will say 'well we didn't force you to follow our guidance, and we're not medical experts, that was on you'.

ie a rerun of the Allison Bailey case?

WheelsUp · 30/04/2023 13:01

This is fair enough. Good luck to those parents - they are doing the right thing for current and future kids too.

INamechangedForThisMadness · 30/04/2023 13:08

#NATALT

There are quite a lot of teachers who have been horrified by this. There are a lot of teachers who have switched unions because of the NEU's complete buying-in to the ideology.

This is a good thing, and I hope it sticks

Whatwouldscullydo · 30/04/2023 13:09

This is what I dont get. All this done on the say so of non law based organisations who likely have a get out clause in the paperwork. Not only are they paying money for this " advice " while parents provide cakes fir bake sales and donate loo roll on account of schools not even having books that aren't held together with cellophane, they are risking being financially responsible when the shit hits the fan.

Makes no sense at all

Whatwouldscullydo · 30/04/2023 13:10

Schools should have been following the DfE guidelines which only just stops short of saying DON'T FOLLOW STONEWALL'S ADVICE.

At least in the teaching parts.

The KCSIE also has very clear bits about stopping particularly girls going down a path to genital mutilation - which is not a million miles away when you consider the atrophy caused by blockers & testosterone.

mauveiscurious · 30/04/2023 13:15

I heard the Radio4 "Bringing up Britain" the majority of teachers want to watch and wait and inform parents if there is harm involved or if child is insisting on moving into the opposite sex areas. It makes sense to me, letting children vocalise their thoughts is fine, but no action until they are adults

Interestingly it was "outside" organisations which are bringing pressure on schools. These should be not allowed.

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/04/2023 13:26

Good on those parents.

SunnyEgg · 30/04/2023 13:31

Excellent legal route is probably only way to undo this

Good luck to the parents

GailBlancheViola · 30/04/2023 13:40

Good for them.

The more light shone on this insidious ideology and the harms it is causing the better.

Those teachers that are preaching and promoting the ideology need to be held accountable.

The indoctrination of children into this (word redacted) by schools is appalling, that is NOT what schools are for, this is not North Korea.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 30/04/2023 13:44

Long overdue and well done to those parents. This government have had to be dragged into upholding safeguarding for children. I've got letters from education ministers like Damian Hinds responding to concerns about safeguarding and the privacy of girls stating how inclusive he thinks mixed sex toilets are! That was the level of capture evident in the Tories - not safeguarding girls but including males in their spaces. 😡
