Work Endometriosis awareness event, no 'cis gendered' males permitted

Wtaf? So male bodied people can attend a female issue awareness event as long as the aren't 'cis' how does this make any sense?

Context is DH has had this invite through from his work place. Thought it would be good to attend as he is a manager and likes to understand as much as he can about different things people may be dealing with in life.

But he can't go, because he is 'cis'

This is discrimination surely?

“cis” is a crock. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes…

Fairislefandango · 30/04/2023 10:13

If I was suffering from endo quite frankly I'd rather have OP's husband - an openly sympathetic ally - attending than somebody who wants to pretend-play about sharing in a rather horrible medical condition that will never affect them.

100% this.

Isthisreasonable · 01/05/2023 13:29

@nothingcomestonothing @RosaBonheur yes the grown ups know that sex isn't assigned but there are times when compromising with the gender woo crowd might achieve a better result.

No. Compromise only leads to more demands. We tried 'be kind' where did it get us?

To try to make it clear that women who want to be seen as/thought of as men (trans men) are welcome, but actual men are not. If it just said ‘males not permitted’ then women who identify as men (trans men) could feel excluded.

Yes, I think it's this too.
Men who aren't trans not invited but trans men are as they could still be suffering from endometriosis themselves.

It doesn't mention trans women though.
It'll be to include trans men who could quite easily be suffering from endometriosis themselves.

TheBrokenCracker · 01/05/2023 14:11

I do feel a bit for the organiser. What I’m sure they want to say is “biological females only” on the basis that this only affects erm biological females and they wanted a space for women to feel open to discuss with people who also face menstrual cycles without biologically male colleagues there, no matter how well meaning they are.

But HR have probably said they can’t say that and they can’t just say women because transmen and female sexed non binary must be expressly included. Which leaves you with whether you try and actively carve trans women out of women or not and apparently we all have to play along with them being indistinguishable for all purposes. when in this scenario patently not. Oh and male sexed Nb individuals. I mean, what a mess.

Buebananas · 01/05/2023 14:22

So why not just invite biological females then?

I see you're still at an earlier stage of peaking and believe that these people are capable of rational thought and compromise.

Why should they be included if they don't have a uterus? Confused

Trans men are the ones who do have a uterus but think the word "woman" doesn't include them so we have to make up euphemisms for "female person" such as "person with a uterus" in the context of women's healthcare so they can be included.

Trans women are the ones who have a penis but think the word "woman" does include them so we have to make up euphemisms for "female person" such as "person with a uterus" in the context of women's healthcare in the hope that they stay away.

Trans men can and do have a uterus though on account of being biologically female but identifying as male.
Are you getting confused with trans women?

But when Buebananas said why not just invite biological women you said 'because they want transmen to feel included'. Now you're saying transmen are biological female (which they are). So they're included if the invitation is for biological females? Confused It's almost like gender ideology has constantly moving goalposts...

The reason they can't say the event is for biological females is because:

  • trans men don't like being called biological females (even though they are)

and

  • trans women are now claiming to be biological females (even though they are not)

You're right. The goalposts are constantly moving. That's why we should stop indulging this nonsense.

Buebananas · 01/05/2023 18:32

Because trans men are biological women..

That's why I originally suggested they invite all biological women. That includes any human that has a uterus. Or am I missing something Confused?

DPotter · 01/05/2023 18:48

Sorry if I'm being daft but why has he been invited if he's not allowed to attend ?

Surely the whole point of a work based awareness session is to make the whole workplace aware

You're missing the fact that some TQ+ people (who may or may not exist in this specific situation) might get very upset.

Well we can't risk that, can we? Some ultra privileged people with low IQ, low reading comprehension, English as an additional language or neurodiversity might miss out on a session which might be helpful for them, but that's totally okay as long as we don't upset the most marginalised underprivileged people in society, the spicy straights Hmm

aweegc · 02/05/2023 14:24

Hang in, isn't this an awareness event? It's not females colleagues discussing the pain they have during sex, or their diarrhoea etc is it?! Who the hell wants to do that with their colleagues! And how incredibly unprofessional to even expect it.

So on that basis, why is it embarrassing for women to have male colleagues hear how awful this condition is? Nobody is going to know who has it or doesn't - unless they volunteer to share that?

Men should definitely be invited to this and attend.

Yayyyy. They'll need to add a footnote saying 'No questions related to your personal experiences are permitted. Do not ask the facilitator any questions. Do not add any comments that might be correcting out of date information. Your brief is to sit there in silence, wonder whether you are the only person in the room affected and if you are also going to be infertile whilst The Men get their Nice Guy cards stamped'.
