I'm not even going to link to the web site that calls itself Lesbian Visibility week as apart from looking like a corporate rip off, how it describes itself means that is celebrating everyone as under their definition anyone can be a lesbian (ie non binary people)

And of course has all the usual suspects promoting it.

Please add anything old or new or a memory that celebrates biological women who are sexually attracted to biological women.

I’m a lesbian. Please don’t use me in your crusade. Standing by our trans sisters and brothers and non binaries, along with many other lesbians too.

Many lesbians as do other women support the right for those who question the gender stereotypes society forces onto them

What they dont accept is the extreme trans ideology (mainly created by deeply sexist men) is that lesbians should accept TW as lesbians.

Lesbians, like gay men, are same SEX attracted.

So the real danger to lesbians and their right to be lesbian are the trans ideologists.

That's why LGB Alliance was formed and has been so sucessful.

Same sex attractions has nothing what so ever to do with those who have got caught up in being captured by gender roles to the extent that, very like the straight jacket of victorian society, they cant be biological male and feminine, or biologically females and masculne.

Trans ideology is a backward concept, and far from liberating people is confining them to roles and rules.

And worse still, has been hijacked by MRAs who see this current fad as providing a platform that sanctions their misogyny.

"Crusade?" Interesting choice of word, really. I'm not the one trying to change the meaning of words. Lesbians are women who are same SEX attracted. There are other words for those that include men, however they present, in their dating pool. HTH.

Non binary BTW means nothing to non believers. It has no logical, non circular definition. No one can tell me what "gender" means.

Some people might believe they have an inner "gender" essence sometimes described as somehow both fluid and never-changing, something that can't be seen or evidenced, only felt. That "gender" is also defined by what it isn't - the set of rigid SEX based stereotypes the claimant does not subscribe to. As if any human being is a set of rigid sex based stereotypes. (It's like the Eighties never happened.) So again Crusade is such an interesting choice of word.

My post was speaking to the many lesbians who do not feel represented by your movement, which was patently obvious. Feel free to scroll on by. We don't have to agree. Isn't that a wonderful thing? To tolerate differences? You should give it a try some time.

Adarajames · 08/04/2024 15:29

The T really shouldn’t even be tacked on to the end of LGB as they all relate to sexuality / who you desire, and as many Trans persons will tell you, it’s not to do with who they sleep with!

MPs to discuss "a motion" on Lesbian Visibility Week.

No clue as to what the motion will say. Very strange.

https://committees.parliament.uk/committee/202/backbench-business-committee/news/201007/mps-to-hold-a-debate-on-lesbian-visibility-week/

But not to worry the House of Commons Library will provide a briefing(?) https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cdp-2024-0081/

I loved this thread first time round, I've missed it! The world out there is a chilly place for lesbians, and it was full of so many warm and wonderful stories. More would be very welcome.💝

I'd love people to know about Chely Wright (those who don't already) and her story. She nearly took her own life and the start of this documentary shows her barely hanging on to life.
She is a very famous country and western singer from the US who struggled with her sexuality combined with deeply religious upbringing.
This documentary follows what happened when she came out, all the crap and all the good.
Spoiler she has a happy ending

So this week is Lesbian Visibility Week 2024 and I haven't dared read the official web site.

Anyone else want to accept the challenge?!

https://www.lesbianvisibilityweek.com/

I clicked on it.

Blurb on the landing page:

For Lesbian Visibility Week 2024 we will be celebrating the power of sisterhood by uplifting incredible LGBTQIA women and non-binary people from every generation, in every field and in every country around the world. One community, so many brilliant individuals. This year DIVA is working in partnership with EL*C (Euro Central Asian Lesbian Committee), ILGA World, GLAAD, Curve and LGBT Foundation to make Lesbian Visibility Week a truly international stage where iconic LGBTQIA women and non-binary people can all take a moment in the spotlight to be recognised for the work they do and the joy they bring.

Why can't they say that Lesbian Visibility Week is an "international stage where iconic LESBIANS can take a moment to be in the spotlight" ?

Clicked on workplace tab... it's an ad for a conference. Plenty of trans and non-binary workshops, not a single workshop about lesbians. DIVA awards tab: no mention of lesbians on the landing page. Events: Southbank surfing (I remember that being fun, back in the day...), other than SBS the only other event that seems to be about lesbians is the "Lesbian Visibility Closing Party 2024" (which does unfortunately seem like it's closing down lesbian visibility, as if that was needed...!)

Here’s to my lovely butch lesbian daughter and her wonderful girlfriend. Their happiness together makes my heart sing.

To my remarkable, and lesbian, English teacher from decades ago.

Not Miss Hyams?

MagicSpring · 23/04/2024 17:41

No, but I'm glad there was more than one inspirational lesbian English teacher in our past!

SwordToFlamethrower · 23/04/2024 17:42

Here's to my beautiful lesbian daughter and her girlfriend, who had the lesbian transed away.

I haven't seen her in 18 months. 😓

Groan - this is exactly why I didn't want to read it.

So everyone is a lesbian?

But I am almost more upset to find out that sisterhood has now been coopted.

Its a word that I thought would always be our own.

Apparently not.

Have just seen this survey publised for Lesbian Visibility Week which is totally pointless as at now point does it indicate whether Lesbians
fees more or less or same amount of being "unsafe" as any of the other groups who have been lumped in together.

And even if the survey wasn't for this week, surely it would be helpful to find out if one group experience being unsafe more than other groups.

Everyday it seems things get published and quoted get more and more nonsensical.
