I'm about to fill in my postal vote and..

..even as a Labour voter and party member I don't want to give them my vote.

So here is my plan. I will put my cross in their box, and I will write something like the following...in small letters so each candidate has to look properly when the doubtful ballots are reviewed...

"You cannot have my vote unless you can define what a woman is..."

And then I'll write a name. It probably won't be mine, but they wont know that. And any vote with a name on is considered spoilt. So they will clearly see that it is a lost vote for them on the basis of this one issue.

Does that sound like a good plan?

Good plan.

Make sure it's a full name, rather than initials so the name can be considered 'identifiable'.

Keepthetowel · 22/04/2023 17:34

Labour will get your vote, Labour will not take any notice of what you write. They are not involved in counting the ballots. Keir Starmer will think your onboard with 48,000 women having penises and access to single sex spaces.

Beachhutnut · 22/04/2023 17:36

Don't put a cross in the box just spoil the ballot by saying you would have voted Labour but for the fact they don't support women's rights

Mimosa08 · 22/04/2023 17:37

I just wrote # labour losing women and #biology is not bigotry on mine

KnickerlessParsons · 22/04/2023 17:39

If you put a cross in the box they'll count it.
Don't vote, and write to the labour candidate to tell her/him why you didn't vote labour.

WeAreTheHeroes · 22/04/2023 17:40

Spoiling your ballot paper gets counted and shows you did go to the polling station though.

Needmoresleep · 22/04/2023 17:47

Sounds good. The Labour candidates can be expected to be at the count. Turnout for local elections can be low, so wards can be settled on a few votes.

The candidate may not care about women’s rights and be totally TWAW but they will be passed off if they lose by a handful of votes. And hopefully the MP, who has to go through the same in 18 months, will take note.

AutumnCrow · 22/04/2023 18:02

I'm going to make sure my ballot paper has to be discussed within 'the huddle' on election night - 'the huddle' has to include candidates, agents and the returning officer (I've been present at many, so yes, this happens and is a legal requirement). They do get seen and discussed.

There are a few ways of doing this. I might be fairly imaginative.

AutisticLegoLover · 22/04/2023 18:17

@AutumnCrow please can you explain further? I like the idea of this

I was thinking maybe a haiku running down the ballot paper, against the names.

Sorry I hope I didn't get you too excited! That's probably more interesting in my head than everyone else's.

Foreversearch · 22/04/2023 18:42

All I would say to anyone voting is think carefully about what you put in the ballot paper.

I have been a vote counter and, as @AutumnCrow says, ballot papers with additional writing etc. are looked at. I have, on more than one occasion, seen votes counted where the voter has drawn a penis and balls next to one candidates name. The result is their vote went to the person they didn’t want.

@greengoose21b you could consider the SDP https://sdp.org.uk/policies/transgender-and-biological-sex-based-rights/

SDP - Transgender and Sex-based Rights

We believe the rights of trans people must be belanced against the needs of biological females to remain safe.

greengoose21b · 22/04/2023 19:17

@Foreversearch I count votes myself every year, and you are right, a penis in a Labour box could be counted as a Labour vote. They are happy to let penises into any space when it suits them!

But this is overridden if there is something on the paper that could identify the voter i.e a name. Those votes are always spoiled no matter how clear the intention.

My rationale for small writing is that it means the election agents and candidates have to have a proper look. Last year I wrote "Respect my Sex" in big letters and it was easy to discard. As a pp said..make the "huddle" have to read it

@greengoose21b glad you know, most people don’t.

lechiffre55 · 22/04/2023 20:06

Is it legal to remove your ballot from the polling station instead of voting with it?

If yes send your Labour MP your ballot paper in the post and explain why you didn't use it to vote. Saying you didn't vote for them is one thing. Anyone can say anything. Actually sending them your empty ballot that they can verify is a real ballot paper and has a valid voter number on it is incontrovertible proof.

Also if lots of people do it they will realise it's a movment.

AutumnCrow · 22/04/2023 20:08

I have a postal ballot on my kitchen table.

WickedSerious · 22/04/2023 20:17

I'm covering mine with 'Men Don't Pass ' stickers.

Crouton19 · 22/04/2023 20:31

I wrote “100% of women do not have a penis” all the way across mine. Not small writing but it should be obvious which party I’m expressing grievance with!

Laladybird · 22/04/2023 20:35

As a Labour member, have you raised gender ideology with your local party?

AutumnCrow · 22/04/2023 20:41

Laladybird · 22/04/2023 20:35

As a Labour member, have you raised gender ideology with your local party?

Oh yes. I’ve spoken 1:1 with both my MP and a local councillor.

Laladybird · 22/04/2023 20:35

Yes. My MP is as TWAW as it gets. Not Russell Moyle, but not far behind

Hi, no it is not legal to remove a ballot paper from the polling station. Please don't do so as it's an electoral offence. Best to do as others suggest and spoil your ballot and write in small letters requiring candidates and agents observing the count to actually read what you've written.

AGovernmentOfLawsAndNotMen · 23/04/2023 02:48

No
Whats the point
Make your vote count
If you want a party that knows what a women is and is prepared to uphold the rights of 51% of the population then you have to grit your teeth and vote Tory for once.
Lots of women are doing so for the first time ever for this very reason.

It seems so many women are prepared to spoil their vote.
If everyone does this then we’ll lose everything we have fought for

Spoiled votes are counted and shown to the candidates to see if they can be identified as being a vote.

However what happens if you don't agree with any of the candidates available to you? Spoiling your ballot is one way to show your dissatisfaction.

I've just remembered I have purple and green fountain pens (ink the same colour as the pens)
