Just back from the rally. ‘Protesters’ shouted it down. They shouted death threats at Posie. Police did nothing. I wonder why? No such thing as free speech.

The woman talking about her cancer diagnosis and all the results of her medical treatment to the appalling shouting and noise behind her was such a juxtaposition. I was weeping buckets listening to her.

Yes - I posted about this on the existing thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4785321-rape-crisis-ni-will-be-joining-trans-allies-to-protest-let-women-speak-event-in-belfast-on-sunday-16-april-2023-1pm as I didn't know another one had been started.

And in fact at one point KJK asked everyone to move closer if possible, but in fact even in Glasgow when the changing was further off, those who weren't near by couldn't hear speakers (while those of us on YouTube heard it all).

KJK spoke about the cost of putting on these events, and it would be great if there was the money for proper amplification in a large public area.

But then again it must be hard to know how many are going to turn up.

I suppose the police were concentrating on there being no acts of violence, rather than how loud the trans activists were.

I wonder what the ground rules are for counter demonstations. Is it so many feet apart. Or far enough away that they cant be heard.

Feckedupbundle · 16/04/2023 19:53

I find it interesting that the police won't act on threats of violence and death.

A few weeks back,I had one of those 'Nottingham Knockers' at my door,he told me that he wasn't trying to sell me anything,I pointed out that clearly he was as he wouldn't be knocking at my door otherwise.
He called me a stuck up cow, upon which,I told him to 'get the fuck out of here'.
I took his photo as he left, and reported the encounter on our local rural watch WhatsApp,as we are farmers and stuff often vanishes after 'visits'.
The police contacted me and wanted me to file a report as it was a potential public order offence. I didn't as if your life choices are such that you make your living trying to flog overpriced tat from door to door, you don't need me making life even harder for you. Plus I don't think that calling someone a 'stuck up cow' is a crime, and don't want to live in a society that thinks it is.
Odd that being rude is a potential crime, but death threats and threats of violence aren't.

If there were repercussions, she could have been targeted. If she was saying TRA stuff, I think you'd be singing a different tune personally.

I do agree that it's not a place for children, as awful as that is. TRAs are vicious.

TooBigForMyBoots · 16/04/2023 20:02

I couldn't get down today, but it looked like a good turnout. The local news covered it.

The TRA stuff is crazy though. I would indeed be concerned to see a girl saying that woman and girl hating stuff. I hate that some girls are exposed to that lunacy. A girl saying she knows who she is? Fine by me.

VaddaABeetch · 16/04/2023 21:43

I travelled on the Terf Train from Dublin. I thought the police did a great job. Lots of them & kept the TRAs back.

It struck me his very unhealthy & unhappy most of the TRAs look. The pub served us then refused to serve a man in a Terf Shirt. I left at that point.

I had a fab day & met many great women.

Hmmmm. Was a bit surprised by the reporting on this from The Mail. Very TRA like.

Then I looked up the reporter.

I've seen stuff by her before - she has form. I noticed that at the end of her report on the Belfast rally, they appended all the stuff about the NZ and Australian events from previous news stories. But Mail Online seems to be entirely different from the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday, with a lot of young reporters who are very into gender ideology.

I see a handful of trans identifying men at work and agree, they never look happy or relaxed. They just look like weird fuckers.

It's a misogynist rag.

TooBigForMyBoots · 16/04/2023 22:27

It was the lead story on BBC Newsline just now. You might be able to get it on i-player. They had KJK speaking.

DOBARDAN · 16/04/2023 23:17

What an emotional watch and listen, so proud of all the women who spoke and told their stories, their poems, their rage at the mess we've been thrown into, thank you to all who attended, on behalf of us all.

This was the teenager. Her poem is attached

JFC how brave and awesome is she!!

Delphinium20 · 17/04/2023 00:22

That poem is really powerful.

Absolutely appalling. I hope they are done for assault.

Depends on the exact circumstances, but from what I can gather from the accounts on Twitter the barstaff refused service to someone with "T**F" on their shirt. The man got himself involved and started talking about genitals to the female barstaff which made them feel threatened which then got the manager involved.

MerlinsLostMarbles · 17/04/2023 01:41

Anyone else feel uncomfortable watching the 11 year old girl speak? I have a feeling she didn't come up with all that on her own and may just be doing it to please a gender critical parent. The very vast majority of Gen-Z are not gender critical, so she probably didn't get it from her peers.

What circumstances exactly would warrant being headbutted by the manager of the establishment?

And you think someone being called a 'soyboy' on twitter was a threat?

Why would you be surprised by this? Anyone buying into the full fat tin foil hattery is clearly not well on any level.

All the ones I know are. How many teenagers do you have?

I think you are wrong about that generation. They are rebelling against the gender nonsense of the 15-30 year olds. Lots of women on here reporting that their children view "trans" peers as self absorbed and boring as they change their pronouns and identities along with the weather.

My 15 yo DD has lots of TERF friends (some are aware, most don't know what GC is, they just know that the girls with "special identities" are generally a pain, and they absolutely don't want boys anywhere near their changing rooms).

QuinkWashable · 17/04/2023 06:50

I took my similarly aged child (scoped it out first, we wouldn't have gone if I'd felt that the police were inadequate to the job) - he was scandalised at the noise from the TRAs (he thought they were a separate event, he was shocked when I explained they were doing it so we couldn't hear what the women were saying).

My experience is the complete opposite - the kids do understand that you can't change sex, and that they need, and are allowed to have boundaries. They are well aware that boys and girls are different things, and immediately see why (for instance) it's insane to let men play rugby against women.

Yes, they can be mislead by people telling them things like that puberty blockers are reversible - but that's on us, not on them to correct.

aweegc · 17/04/2023 07:31

Are these events by KJK demonstrations? I'm pretty sure she never refers to them as that. Which is important because the TRAs are then demonstration against them, not counter protesting.

Someone explained the subtle different on another thread:

  • A demonstration is against something.
  • A counter protest is seen as more of a defensive act, countering what the horrible/wrong people are saying and on a par somehow with whatever they're countering. "Counter-balancing it".

The TRAs are protesting women speaking. They're demonstrating against it.

In Belfast, for example, they were demonstrating against a woman talking about her cancer experience. They weren't counter demonstrating a woman talking about her cancer experience.

The gay man who was headbutted was wearing an Adult Human Male tee shirt. Why would that justify not serving him?

Julia Long interviewed him outside the pub. The manager came put from behind the bar to escort him off the premises - which is when he was headbutted , as he was leaving. He is a very gentle soul by all accounts.

Now as an old shop steward I'd be reluctant to see anyone sacked. But as an old bartender I'd have been fired in the spot for assaulting a customer.

Yes - KJK's staging an event, the TRAs across the way are protesting that event.

That looks more balanced than the bit of BBC news I heard, which described the event as being "organised by KJK, who opposes some trans rights".
