Biological man not allowed to give blood because he refuses to say whether or not he's pregnant

Link here (not the Daily Fail)

NHS Scotland (them again) can dress it up as being for donor safety all they like, but it's the trans agenda in fancy clothes.

He should have asked them to do a quick pregnancy test on him to confirm his pregnancy status.

Slothtoes · 13/04/2023 16:11

I agree with what Datun says:
The government needs to bloody well sort out the NHS. The question should be are you biologically male or female?

And if someone goes out of their way to disguise their sex, and lies about it, which results in something going wrong, then they should face legal repercussions.

I would add that there should be consequences even if nothing goes wrong in the care of the lying individual- the messing up of important public health data needs to be seen as the selfish act of vandalism that it is.

Why could he just not say no?
He was being difficult. It is physically impossible for me to be pregnant too, but I would not kick up a fuss on a standardised form!

Because he's a man and men can't get pregnant.

He was not being difficult: he was pointing out the stupidity of transideology.

2bazookas · 13/04/2023 16:28

I'm tempted to self identify as a man just so I can go to give blood in Ayrshire, and tell them "Yes, I'm a pregnant man. As you know, nurse, men don't have a uterus I'm carrying the baby in my scrotum . Haven't decided yet whether to go for a natural penis delivery, or have a rectum section. "

Tell them you're gestating the foetus in a box.

My mum was asked if she could be pregnant when she went for her COVID jab. Aged 74. They didn't actually ask my dad the same question. I'm kind of wishing they had though, just to imagine his reaction!

DH aged 70 was asked when he went to a radiography appointment. The radioographer shuffled their feet and muttered ; 'I'm sorry, i have to ask this but...'.

Ridiculous.

Datun · 13/04/2023 16:55

They're asking this because pregnant women are not recommended to give blood as they need it for themselves and growing their foetus.

Because sex matters.

So they know biological sex matters, but refuse to accept it in all sorts of other areas.

It's incoherent.

In their universe, how's he supposed to know whether or not he could be pregnant?

If they can't tell that he's not pregnant because he's male, why's he supposed to know more about biology than them? If they can't rule it out, why is he expected to?

Absolutely this. When I went for a scan, they asked me if I was pregnant. Fair enough but staff said at the time, it's ridiculous but we have to ask everyone, even the men. They were saying how embarrassing it was to ask men that question and how some men responded with verbal abuse.

SerendipityJane · 13/04/2023 17:09

Thanks goodness there is no shortage of blood donors. Otherwise frippery like this might put more people off than the minute (if greater than zero) number of people it will draw in.

This is an issue;

  • verbal abuse
  • lack of faith in the HCP treating you... if they apparently don't know that men can't get pregnant so the man thinks WTAF is this person doing treating me?
  • people with cognitive issues or dementia being highly confused / distrubed/ upset at the question
people like the MNetters on this thread and some others know the context as to why these are being asked, but not everyone does and certainly not everyone has the patience to just say 'no' if it does not apply to them. It potentially puts HCP at risk of aggressive responses as well as any number of other issues.

The NHS is not well.

The NHS is completely and utterly captured beyond help.
My 71 year old Mother had a stroke last year, was left lying on a trolley in the corridor of A&E for 14 hours. When a doctor finally spoke to her the FIRST question of out her mouth was "how do you identify?".

To a confused, scared, semi paralysed 71 year old woman.

She took one look at my face and went on to the next question.

God that is terrifying and it's so offensive too.

Apparently offending and frightening the patient and family by prioritising an unscientific ideology in a medical emergency doesn't matter though. As long as the 0.01% of men who want to be women don't have hurt feelings.

How can that possibly be the FIRST question? I hope your mother got good care but it's hardly confidence inspiring is it? I very much want my doctors and nurses to be quite clear on very simple biology such as the fact all mammals (including humans) have two sexes because if they're not it really doesn't bode well. Are they qualified or do they just identify as so?

dimorphism · 13/04/2023 19:32

Wow - what on earth was I deleted for? Nothing I said broke any rules.

The shifting sands of coercive control.

dimorphism · 13/04/2023 19:42

It was super fast too - I find it difficult to believe anyone could have reported me that fast.

All I said was that asking the man to fill in the form as is was discriminatory and requiring him to sign up to an ideology he does not believe in. Everyone has the human right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion - they should not have to answer a question that presupposes a belief in gender identity. Especially when it's a medical form and scientific reality means that the question is not applicable.

It's a bit like having to answer a question about the last time you took communion and that being a compulsory question and saying in person 'I don't believe in any God' not being sufficient. Discriminatory.

He said in person he couldn't be pregnant because he was a man.

Asking him to answer a question about it is discriminatory as it presupposes a (quasi religious and unscientific) belief.

fucking bollocking shitting hell. That is absolutely disgusting.

Seriously, couldn't she be a trans man with GRC, name, look and sound like a man but also be pregnant?

I don't know about these things but i assume thats why the question is there, same in England, i was asked if i was pregnant and i'm clearly way way past that!!

This happened in the US - a patient self identified as male in an emergency room. "He" nearly died because of an ectopic pregnancy. The ER personnel never considered his symptoms as pregnancy related because of the self identification.

I remember that case.

And there also the male TRAs who crow with delight when they are asked by medical personnel if they could be pregnant.

And those who eagerly look forward to getting a smear test appointment. Therefore taking the place of a woman, and making healthcare professionals waste their bloody time.

GingerbreadBaking · 13/04/2023 20:06

I have never seen MH services here and got a MH referral via a letter for Re education over my objection over this ideology. I rang MH to say I am not interested.

A week later a man from MH announced that I had been released from a MH ward and that I didn't turn up to out patients and asking why, I said you are insane and put down the phone.

I had family with me eho knew i hadn't been in hospital that week or for years as they were here with me (those making the referral didn't know i had family living with me as previously i loved alone) and I have only been in hospital as an inpatient three times for surgery never MH.

The next day two MH people turned up at my door. A family member answered the door and videoed them and said you are harassing her and making factually incorrect medical records about her because she doesn't believe men are women.

I offered the recording to people last year, they weren't interested or ignored me, like I was mad which was why this was done to me. I doubt that I wasn't alone in this having been done. I deregistered from my GP over it as I didn't trust them.

I think it was because I had been complaining to the safeguarding board and council and have evidence one of them was defending Dr Adrian Harrop.

I doubt you will believe me either, incase it happened to anyone else I am posting to let them know they aren't alone.

Ingenieur · 13/04/2023 14:23

An interesting and pertinent point, the male donor is a GP.

I was about to make the same point. At least not everyone in the NHS is captured.

FannyCann · 13/04/2023 20:18

My friend was asked by a midwife at her booking in appointment what sex she was, not even which gender she identified with which I find ridiculous but could tolerate.

No I couldn't tolerate that. I'd be sending that midwife packing with a flea in her ear and demanding a midwife that actually knows a little bit about human biology and reproduction.
