Behind a pay wall but basically says he backs Rishi Sunak in clarifying that sex means biological sex in the 2010 act. That's it isn't it? Game over for the Gender ideology crowd if they can't misrepresent the law and sow confusion.

Keir Starmer backs rewriting equality law to ban trans people from same-sex spaces

Labour leader supportive of Rishi Sunak's plan to change Equality Act as he attempts to draw line under party divide

I’m not sure about Boris (just haven’t looked into it much) but Rishi is being far clearer than Starmer with statements, and now actions.

I think Boris was never that in to the Trans Genderwoo, he inherited it from Theresa May and as we saw he and Truss quickly announced that self-id would not go ahead as planned. I voted Conservative in that Theresa May election and had no idea self-id was in the manifesto (as with all the other parties)..it was under the radar somewhat.
Starmer has offended me far more as an ex-Labour party member as he has tried to silence women.

Boris did not have the same problem as Keir, but there were a few (and still are a few) who are very TWAW. Some of these were considered "friends of Carrie" and held quite influential positions within No 10.

His ears were being bent with two sets of views. Presumably sufficiently toxic that Liz' suggestion of GRA reform into the long grass seemed like a good idea. (Keir is close to this now.) Liz deserves some credit. She was women's minister, and then appointed Kemi as her deputy. Some good things were taking place in the background. The Cass report was commissioned, Kishwer Falkner was appointed to the EHRC. It was slow turning the tanker around but it is now gaining momentum.

Given how many kids Boris has, I can only assume that he's known exactly what a woman is for a very long time.

Not necessarily. Just think how many more kids he could have had if he did know exactly what a woman is.

lechiffre55 · 06/04/2023 12:33

@JanesLittleGirl
True.
Maybe he was just doing a lot of research. For science.

Yes I have tried to piece it all together and come to a similar conclusion. Also that Nikki Da Costa was probably the one advocating for children and women.
I would still argue that very few people realised self-id was a policy in the May manifesto.

Yes it is his and 'gender identity ideology's fault that we can no longer trust the commonly accepted meanings of words.

Jess Phillips has now said she is in favour of clarifying the Equality Act in an interview where she talks about refuges.

"Single-sex spaces should be protected"

Shadow domestic violence and safeguarding minister @jessphillips says not all women are the same and that there should also be "specialist spaces for transgender victims of domestic abuse"

Not all women are the same? and so it continues....weasel words. Women need an apology from Labour for being called bigots and transphobes.

Needmoresleep · 06/04/2023 12:52

Jackie Doyle Price deserves an honorable metion. Her portfolio included teenage mental health, and in the last hour before she was sacked by Boris when he had a clear out of remainers, she announced a review into gender and adolescent health. I don't know if this morphed into Cass, but she was definitely one of the early ones to stick her head above the parapet.

So Labour women/MPs. One day you may be asked where you were during the great gender wars. Momentum is in Rosie's direction but she needs some company.

This is clearly TWAW not all women are the same in that some are men according to Labour

They need to get their messaging clarified it’s all over the place

AlisonDonut · 06/04/2023 12:55

There is a very, very simple way out of this for Labour.

Simply state that they will look at the law, in which single sex spaces are for single sex bodies.

And look at the funding which states that 0.01% of people consider themselves 'trans' [as per the census] so they will look at the funding that goes to shelters/prisons/ etc and ensure that 0.01% of the funding and spaces are put aside for 'trans' people.

Sorted.

circleback · 06/04/2023 13:44

It’s weird isn’t it? BJ came out with a clear and sensible statement and appeared like a grown-up and everyone else turns into an impression of him on this topic - waffle waffle, both sides, heat light waffle waffle, look, A SQUIRREL! etc.

nilsmousehammer · 06/04/2023 13:45

He should have enough splinters in his arse by now to rebuild Hadrians Wall. I cannot take to that man. He can talk for five minutes and at the end of it you still have no idea what he thinks, what he believes, what he stands for, or what he would do in power.

He's like mist, you can barely make it out, it swirls around, and any attempt to pin it down is pointless.

Why does this shit always have to be wheeled out with reference to Johnson?

Starmer has two kids and seems not to have a fucking clue what a woman is.

Absolutely. Bloody ridiculous from Jess Phillips who COULD have done so much on this but put her career first and, as you say, weasels her way around facts and truth. Women cannot trust Labour at all.

RhannionKPSS · 07/04/2023 00:24

Philips is a coward, just like Starmer. She is a betrayer of all those women, & their families, whose names she has the huge responsibility of reading out every year. Shame on her

The language needs to be clearer but she’s calling for third spaces. That’s a GOOD thing.

BluebellBlueballs · 07/04/2023 10:16

It's pissed off the trans crowd particularly as he refers to women's rights as a separate thing to trans rights and they are all like 'but we ARE women'. ( yes, I lurk on reddit transuk. Always good to know what the other side are thinking)

But the rhetoric of women's rights v trans rights is becoming established which is a GOOD thing as it means, implicitly, that TW are not W

nilsmousehammer · 07/04/2023 10:21

Yes. This is the key thing. It limits the degree of transition and makes it clear: biological female humans are a specific group, and their equality and meeting their needs and rights requires that they have an identity of their own and the ability to be grouped by that biological characteristic.

Regardless of how sad and distressing this is for some biological males. TWATW and that's great. But TWANW.

Beamur · 07/04/2023 10:27

KS is definitely manoeuvring Labour into a less polarised stance but there's still a lot of ambiguity there.
I'm heartened that it does show that some politicians are listening though as we wouldn't have heard this a year or two ago.
But yes, I would also like to see Lisa Nandy or Angela Rayner interviewed and find out their views on this - if it's TWAW is still a staunch belief held by senior Labour people then I couldn't trust them in Government as I think this wing would influence policy a lot..

There is still a staunch belief that biological females should not have things or say things that may make special biological male people sad.

Including equality of access, safety and humanity.

And that good females wouldn't expect such equality or wish to retain laws making male people sad.

I would have to be out of my tiny little mind to vote for that.
