We just wanted to talk, to read a poem, and we were beaten up: Let Women Speak

This may have been shared but since these brave wahine didn’t get to speak at the event, I think a thread dedicated to them speaking is the least we could do. The Platform allowed women to call up and speak. I’m only 30 minutes in, the fourth woman is so tearful it’s quite a hard listen. She is clearly traumatised. Please listen, please leave a comment if you can. I’m so heartbroken about it. I know some of these women who were attending. Whanau ( family ) and friends attended. They’re all completely in shock. Angry, broken, feeling completely overwhelmed. They’ve been called far right, Nazis, when a large portion are long time Maori rights activists, Labour supporters, and many are older women. Some have nothing to do with any feminist groups, they just wanted to be heard. Read a poem. Talk about their lives. Their fears.

I’ve politely asked people not to thank Sean Plunket. As my aunties would say, he is taku weriweri (disgusting).

So disgusting that he seems to be only journalist in NZ that has given a platform to the truth.

Yes. If the rest of the media would do it's job we wouldn't be forced to listen to the show hosted by the unpure person. But beggars can't be choosers.

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 28/03/2023 12:42

Maybe we should make a list of all the terrible, right wing journalists, radio and tv news presenters that feminists should never have spoken to but have?

The sky didn’t fall in after Kara Dansky spoke to Tucker Carlson, after all.

MarshaBradyo · 28/03/2023 12:45

It’s a bit of an issue if left wing media are happy washing over it all and ignoring the violence.

How do we get our voices heard?

Giggorata · 28/03/2023 13:17

If we don't engage with journalists, politicians, etc who have different views from ourselves, how are we ever going to get our views across, and maybe even convince them and their followers?

nilsmousehammer · 28/03/2023 14:29

In the face of this extremist insanity from those screaming and assaulting people under rainbow flags, all kinds of other previous barriers are being abandoned.

I mention again, the 72 year old lesbian, remembering (actual) prejudice as a young newly come out woman, who was protected from the violent mob of self identified LGBT+ supporters, by fundamentalist Christian men.

If the left wing could manage to give a toss about women or anything but their own virtue signalling, we'd have perhaps a more balanced media involved. But we don't. It's been their decision.

Tricyrtis2022 · 28/03/2023 15:02

I'm half way through the first one and it's hard to listen to. Those women sound completely traumatised and utterly horrified.

If this disgusting behaviour is actually a narcissistic extinction burst (the last big push before the end comes) I really hope it ends soon because I'm not sure how much more society can take.

I don’t know has been added yet, but today women protested outside the NZ High Commission and read out the speeches which were going to be made in Auckland and Wellington at the weekend.

That song “women’s rights are human rights” makes me cry. It’s perfect

Whaeanui · 28/03/2023 23:05

@EndlessTea I didn’t see that, thank you!

There's something about those words set to that particular tune. Makes me wobbly every single time.

Linda, who was responsible for liaison with the Police at Auckland - blow-by-blow account of liaison with the Police in the run-up to the event and then what happened on the day. Absolutely shocking!
