US detransitioner Layla Jane suing after double mastectomy at 13

This is a report from Fox News, but as we all know much of the US media won't report on this stuff.

www.foxnews.com/media/de-transitioned-teen-sues-kaiser-permanente-performing-double-mastectomy-intentional-fraud

A detransitioner in the US is suing Kaiser Foundation Hospitals after they performed a double mastectomy on her at thirteen. She is being represented by the same law firm as Chloe Cole, another young detransitioner.

Quote from article:
Now 18 years old, Jane is accusing the hospital system of "intentional fraud and concealment" involving her gender transition, alleging the doctors pushed her into the procedure and characterized her gender transition as the only way to treat her preexisting mental health problems.

"I don't think I should've been allowed to change my sex before I was legally able to have sex," Jane told Fox News' Laura Ingraham last Thursday. "I don't think I'm better off for the experience, and I think transitioning just completely added fuel to the fire that was my preexisting conditions."

It breaks my heart that we have allowed this to happen to children, what on earth were we thinking. Absolutely tragic that young girls and boys are having irreversible surgery before they even understand who they are. Is anyone telling these girls that their breasts might form a huge part of their sexual development later, never mind breast-feeding, its just insanity . And the grown up men who have transitioned late, had careers, wives, children, that come on here and talk in public and tell us what awful people we are should be ashamed of themselves.

SalaDaeng · 22/03/2023 06:41

She talks about changing her sex. Nobody can change their sex.

BordoisAgain · 22/03/2023 07:07

But no one is operating on kids, right

Right?

picklemewalnuts · 22/03/2023 07:10

What the hell?! 13?!

The awful thing is, a youngster I know thinks these detransitioners 'just changed their mind' 'were too young' 'rushed into it'
and
'I've known for ages, so I won't change my mind'. 'I'm much older (17)'.

I had to say that from the perspective of 50, 17 is still really young with lots of room for changing minds. She didn't listen, obviously.

Forfrigz · 22/03/2023 07:32

Who would have thought that lying to children by saying it's possible to change sex and then mutilating them would have such bad consequences? Wait...

Helleofabore · 22/03/2023 08:17

I saw her speak about it at a committee hearing. A heartbreaking situation.

Correct. If people understood that it would save a lot of trouble

Babdoc · 22/03/2023 08:27

Sad for her, but excellent news. A spate of high profile law cases, with massive punitive damages, is probably the only thing that will stop the highly profitable juggernaut of child mutilating trans surgery in the US. The surgeons must be purely motivated by money - they obviously don’t care a shit about their patients’ wellbeing or future health.

SapphosRock · 22/03/2023 08:29

13? Jesus. It is a harrowing story and I hope she wins.

Mamette · 22/03/2023 08:29

Poor woman. She has been completely failed by her caregivers.

ScrollingLeaves · 22/03/2023 08:33

If thus poor girl’s lawsuit is successful it may prevent some other children from being ‘legally’ mutilated by this clinic.

FrancescaContini · 22/03/2023 08:35

13? Jesus wept. This is surely child abuse? Physical assault?

What were the medics thinking as they removed her still-growing breasts? Do/can they think?

Yes. I can’t think of any other reason, either.

Beowulfa · 22/03/2023 09:00

The middle classes/socially liberal think child abuse is something that those awful poor people do in council houses. Whilst cheering on this in plain sight.

SageRosemary · 22/03/2023 09:11

I hope she gets millions! This is a multi billion dollar industry (possibly causing as much harm as those industries that promote tobacco, alcohol, sugar, fat). Hit them hard in their pockets.

And, maybe the next young man or woman to sue will sue their parents too. Giving your children what they "want" is not always a good idea. Santa Claus has been blown out of all reasonable proportion and it seems to be all about instant gratification. My child "wants" this, therefore they must have this, NOW. Gratification in gender ideology is tantamount to child abuse.

EndlessTea · 22/03/2023 09:45

This just makes it all hit home again. 😢

This is my observation, too. The cognitive dissonance is extraordinary.

gogohmm · 22/03/2023 10:13

13???

Even that high profile trans woman on the tv was 17/18 before she had surgery. I don't really agree with hormones before 18, but at least they are potentially reversible

ArabellaScott · 22/03/2023 10:19

13 . My god. I find these stories so hard to hear. Her body won't even have finished growing by then, how will that affect scar tissue? It's just so utterly wicked. Utterly wrong.

Sending her all my best wishes. Flowers

IcakethereforeIam · 22/03/2023 10:28

Hormones aren't reversible, some off the effects can be ameliorated. But changes to the voice, male pattern baldness, etc. are permanent. Electrolysis can be used to decrease male-type face and body hair but it's expensive, possibly painful, time consuming and, I think, the effectiveness can vary depending on the amount of melanin in the hairs. Darker hairs can be easier to remove but it may take several treatments to each individual hair.

Excess testosterone is deleterious to the female reproductive system, one reason why so many have a hysterectomy. It increases the risk of certain types of cancers. I don't know if these effects are reversed or just stopped if the woman ceases to take wrong sex hormones.

But yes, cutting your breasts off is pretty irrevocable. I hope they get taken to the cleaners. I hope they get jailed. I hope they lose their licenses. If I believed in hell, I'd be hoping they'd go straight there.

AmuseBish · 22/03/2023 10:31

13 - you just wouldn't believe it! She's only 18 now, too.

It is glaring how much 'sex' and 'gender' are conflated here. Either they are the same thing, in which case it is not possible to have them 'misaligned' because they are both referring to the physical body, or they are different, in which case care should be taken to use, and define, the correct term.

I know it sounds pedantic but I really feel that trying to use correct terms (in the media, in reports, and generally) can shed light on what we are actually talking about. Changing bodies because your feelings are deemed "wrong" for your body.

Is any of this monstrous surgery happening in the UK under 18? Or is it 'just' the puberty blockers here?
I think Keira Bell (thank goodness for her - she helped bring Cass about) was over 18 when she had surgery.
I don't think 18 is old enough to make such life-changing decisions either but it is better than no brake on this barbarous practice at all.

I think you can be 16 for the coyly-termed "top surgery" in the UK.

Thankfully they don't operate on 13-year-olds over here (afaik).
