Would you go into a mens toilet for the Gender Critical cause?

Isheabastard · 05/03/2023 12:32

I am Gender critical.

I have a lot of sympathy for people with true gender dysphoria. Any one who has had bottom surgery (penis removal) would be welcome in my private spaces. However I admit it’s not always easy to separate who’s who.

I also believe that most people underestimate the lengths predators will go to to have access to women and children.

It has occurred to me that if ‘men’ are able to go into womens loos, then women should be able to go into mens loos. Especially when the womens loos have become ‘mixed’, but the mens has been left untouched.

I know most women would say “Yuck that’s just not something we want to do”, but hear me out. I am an older overweight grey haired woman. If I put on a mannish jacket and tie, popped on a man’s hat and a ludicrous fake beard or moustache, went into the mens loos, went past the men at the urinals and into a cubicle, do you think the men would feel the same discomfiture as women feel when the opposite happens?

I think as long as the woman was way past being attractive she would probably be safe enough, especially if safeguards were used. Suggestions gratefully received.

A bit of me wants to do this to ‘take one for the team’, but honestly I’m too much of a coward.

Is there anyone out there who thinks like me, and even more important anyone out there that thinks they could actually do this?

Or am I being a mad as a box of frogs, post menopausal crazy cat lady?

I mean,

I've cleaned men's toilets in the past as part of my job. They aren't filled with dangerous monsters (just appalling smells). But I would always shout loudly that I was coming in just in case anyone was there - both because men are owed privacy/dignity and frankly I didn't particularly need to see random men weeing either. That's also why toilets have the "may be cleaned by members of the opposite sex" signs up. Its completely different to the idea anyone can come into the ladies and cannot be challenged/looked at funny.

namitynamechange · 05/03/2023 18:12

@averylongtimeago The House of Commons one makes sense TBH - its very specifically targeted to people with the responsibility for holding/changing the law in that area.

LavenderSloe · 05/03/2023 18:24

I was literally at an event this weekend where this happened...the q for the ladies was ridiculous, so a lady who was bursting went into the men's. And a bloke went mental at her telling her she shouldn't be there. Maybe would have been different if she'd dressed herself in man clothes.

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 05/03/2023 18:26

The problem is, we just don't care about women (or transmen) in our toilets. It already happens when the women's are too busy (mostly in pubs and clubs)

You're not a threat to us in the same way a man in the ladies would be. We're generally not bothered or embarrassed if you catch a glimpse of us urinating (witness the public urination down in most town centres on a Saturday night). And there's usually enough urinals that no-ones in the cubicles anyway so you're not even causing us an inconvenience.

I get and applaud the intention, but I just don't think it would have the reaction you're looking for.

I use men’s toilets all the time if necessary
always have
everywhere clubs pubs shops

Yes I have too. I am not queuing up if there's an empty men's loo to use!

Cailleach1 · 05/03/2023 19:29

Well, the males who use women's spaces are of a type that are happy to transgress at least one (if not all) of women's comfort, safety and boundaries. If I encountered a male in a space where I knew he shouldn't really be, I would be on alert as I would not be at ease as to his intent. He is in the location and I would not want to be alone in there with him to give an opportunity. In that case, I may prefer to accompany OH or friends to the male facilities.

Some of the males in the male facilities may be happy transgressors of women's boundaries too, but I would have known for certain those ones in the women's facilities had shown they do actually transgress.

Riverlee · 05/03/2023 19:31

I might do it en masse with other woman, but not on my end.

extramaturecheddarcheese · 05/03/2023 19:57

Apologies as haven't RTFT but I did this with a friend at the O2 when the queues for the ladies were ridiculous and the men in the gents were outraged. Actually so angry that we had gone in there and shouted after us that we were out of order and it was the gents blah blah blah. I was actually surprised at how much they did care. We didn't hang around for a nose - walked in straight into cubicles but they were so cross.

minipie · 05/03/2023 19:59

But…. Wouldn’t this just be used as evidence that women don’t mind sharing loos with men? So directly unhelpful to the GC cause?

What am I missing??

LilCat · 05/03/2023 20:04

I went into the men's at a nightclub when I was early 20s very attractive because I was drunk and dying for a piss and the women's had huge queues. Men were not happy as in I was manly and not lady like unclassy and vulgur of me to get into their space, definitely weren't frightened of me but I was a slim 5ft nothing young drunk woman, they had nothing to fear.. they laughed and started shouting to their mates. I left the club quickly after. I wouldn't dream of going into the men's even though I'm becoming increasingly invisible to men these days.

MultipleVeganPies · 05/03/2023 20:04

You are only crazy for not understanding that in your scenario you’d be putting yourself in danger, not the men

there isn’t much history of evidence if women trying to get access to vulnerable men or boys to rape/harm them

it’s not something men fear

part of the problem is that half the population (men) have nothing to lose from trans women having access to female and girl spaces

On the other hand, I’ve started using men’s toilets as I’m middle aged and fed up and past caring. Not to make a point but just to have a piss, and if the women’s has a stupid queue I use the men’s

LilCat · 05/03/2023 20:06

I too went straight to a cubicle just to pee and leave didn't hang around and yeah they were outraged the men... yet we women, smaller in size and more vulnerable just have to #bekind and let them go in our space. Madness.

GreenLampOfLove · 05/03/2023 20:14

Man Friday was aces! Still got my badge somewhere.

As a pp said you have to make it clear why you're doing it. Leave literature around or stickers, or be prepared to answer questions. The action on its own isn't clear enough.

What if a man used the women's toilets, probably not for queue reasons, but maybe because he thought them cleaner? "I'm just having a piss and the women's are in a better state"

LilCat · 05/03/2023 21:10

@PorcelinaV unlikely as men piss standing up. Also unlikely since women's are allegedly more dirty than men's toilets. Apparently ours smell worse and have period smears all over source: Reddit Askmen

WarningToTheCurious · 05/03/2023 21:25

In an M&S that I hadn’t been to before last weekend I almost went into the men’s loos - a kindly older gentleman said “that’s the men’s love, the ladies’ is just down there”.

I half thought about just carrying on to see what would happen (“I’m gender fluid” could be a perfect excuse, especially in M&S) but given the male demographic at the time it seemed a bit unfair.

I remember my university grad ball when the queue for the ladies was horrific so some went into the gents instead - to say the blokes were horrified doesn’t even come close.

Florissant · 06/03/2023 06:56

No.

Abhannmor · 06/03/2023 08:37

This thread is giving me flashbacks. An all nighter with films and a late bar. A woman addressing my back- ' excuse me do you mind if ...' . No problem.

As I was leaving I could hear another woman , presumably addressing my replacement - 'excuse me...' Sure whatever he replied.

Perhaps we were too wasted to get embarrassed? Afterwards I thought how completely asexual it all was. When you gotta go you gotta go. One thing I noticed during lockdown : there aren't enough women's toilets anyway.

oldwhyno · 06/03/2023 08:55

I think I’d rather women came in the Gents than men dressed as women.

but that doesn’t mean I want men dressed as women to go in the Ladies.

Untitledsquatboulder · 06/03/2023 09:09

If on the one hand you are arguing that the different sexes need different toilets for their dignity (and for women, their safety) then it seems pretty counterintuitive to encourage women to use the mens toilet.

Brefugee · 06/03/2023 09:12

have not RTFT but WTF is this bollocks?

If you don't want men or TW using your toilet the answer isn't to force your way into a men's toilet.

Having said that: i have, in the past (notably at a woman's football match in a regular stadium normally only used by the men's team) been in a massive queue for the ladies while the men waltz in and out. And have, with other women asked if we can use theirs. And I've never been refused.
(at the football stadium the provision was 4-1 men to women, which isn't normally an issue. When the crowd is mostly women, a 14 cubicle men's loo and a 3 cubicle women's loo is obviously a problem. The men themselves voluntarily - in our stand at least - gave up the biggest toilet for the use of women and girls)

This.

I don't really understand the OP and also, trans men do use men's toilets.

Prego5972 · 06/03/2023 09:16

I am a victim of rape, however I still go into the mens loos if needed. In most of the shopping centres round here, the womans loos are now designated for "ladies, baby changing and disabled". Whereas the mens is just mens. The queues can get ridiculous! So I skip the que and use the mens. Or sometimes in the womens if there is no loo roll I go into the mens and steal some. They always have plenty with extra spare 🙄

Being "old fat and grey"......what has that got to do with anything?
