Hoping Miriam gets a chance to address the odious attack on her by Lloyd Russell Moyles, and the conviction yesterday of the double rapist who claims he's a woman.

I think GC commentators have to be armed in any discussion to push back immediately on this claim, case by case. So no, a trans child is not more vulnerable than any other child in school, all children can fall prey to abuse, so we must treat all children as being equally vulnerable and not give certain children a special status at the expense of others.

Coming back to this; I agree with you but the latest keeping children safe in education does specifically name some groups of children who are more vulnerable to abuse, including lgbt.

Heads will hone in on that

It does. I responded to the under the radar consultation to say - basically - erm what about Everyone's Invited the the Ofsted findings?!

But no. Sacred groups.

That is actually useful for @Vebrithien on another thread to quote, as, while KCSIE mentions "trans children" (which is at that age, all self defined and so not an official diagnosis) it also mentions the EA and specifically sex.

So the safeguarding lead Dh has a duty under KCSIE to make sure that characteristic is upheld too.

WarriorN · 27/01/2023 09:23

From KCSIE

  1. Whilst all of the above protections are important in the context of safeguarding, this guidance and the legal duties placed on schools and colleges, in relation to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, governing bodies and proprietors should carefully consider how they are supporting their pupils and students with regard to particular protected characteristics - including disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender reassignment and race.

  2. Provisions within the Equality Act allow schools and colleges to take positive action, where it can be shown that it is proportionate, to deal with particular disadvantages affecting pupils or students with a particular protected characteristic in order to meet their specific need. This includes a duty to make reasonable adjustments for disabled children and young people, including those with long term conditions. A school or college, could, for example, consider taking positive action to support girls if there was evidence they were being disproportionately subjected to sexual violence or sexual harassment.

It's like they skim over the above. They definitely don't join the dots. Positive action would be to make sure there are single sex safe spaces for girls, who make up the majority of the half the school.

And at the time that was written, it was very far from clear as to whether gender reassignment even applied to children. Which I also pointed out.

Institutions getting ahead of the law again!

WarriorN · 27/01/2023 09:38

There's far too much sitting in the fence and lack of plain English.

These issues will keep occurring until specific aspects of the law relating to sex in schools are spelt out in black and white.

Is it this one? She is as thick as mince.

Blimey... Deflect! Deflect! Deflect! But Caster Semanya! Strawman, Usain Bolt doesn't identify as a woman!

duc748 · 27/01/2023 11:34

Not following your drift there, Sinner.

And actually not necessarily self defined but parentally coerced or defined - which should, in a sane world, be a safeguarding red flag in the way that FII also is.

The 'trans child' blogger that i used to follow is an absolute epicentre of random self diagnoses for herself and all her 'home educated' children. Her absolute commitment to affirming her 'trans child' has exactly the same feel.

WarriorN · 27/01/2023 12:06

Fully agree morven. There's definitely some huge issues going on in that area.

Not following your drift there, Sinner.

I was mocking Lisa Nandy's non-respsonses to Morgan, when he asked her if it was fair for mediocre men to compete as women and "break" all the records.

teawamutu · 27/01/2023 12:17

I can't wait for her latest answer on the issue. Has she any constituents on here?

duc748 · 27/01/2023 12:33

Yes, me. I want to know who the woman asking her the questions was in that video. I thought I recognised the venue.

@SinnerBoy

Fair enough. I didn't watch the Morgan interview cos both annoy me so much.

SinnerBoy · 27/01/2023 14:17

Fair enough, now you know! I took a bullet for you, remember that!
