Suzanne Moore: Trans activists are giving men even more power over women

In today's Telegraph:

www.telegraph.co.uk/columnists/2023/01/24/trans-activists-giving-men-even-power-women/

"The row over the Scottish Gender Recognition certificate has caused some particular nasties to crawl out. None of this is new; some trans activists set off a smoke bomb in 2019 next to a meeting at Grenfell, causing huge distress. Woman’s Place meetings are always picketed and women have to meet in secret. Film screenings are stopped by loud, stubbled men in frocks. Professional women, as we know, lose jobs over this issue and some are advised to have personal security. For saying what? That biology exists.

This madness could be dialled down a notch if all this intimidation was condemned. Keir Starmer could do it, the unions could do it, university vice chancellors could do it. Are these institutions happy with the situation? For pity’s sake, don’t ‘both sides’ this. Women are not threatening trans people. The mantra that somehow debating our legal rights means denying their existence is nonsensical. Of course trans people exist, but so does male violence and provision has to be made to protect women from it where possible.
SNP politicians happily posed with protestors with signs saying Decapitate TERFss_. Oh, they did not know what they were doing? Well, “Open your eyes” is all I can say. You are doing trans people no favours at all – for most of these activists are guys who have just found a new channel for their misogyny and get a cheap thrill wearing female underwear while doing it."

Ends:

"I am proud to live on ‘Terf Island’ where critical thinking is allowed, and we do not do what men tell us. We are in it for the long haul and if certain politicians do not recognise that, we simply will not recognise them – however they identify themselves."

why should anyone respect a group of a self-selected males? On what basis?

Because they can make you, force you to, whether you like it or not.

Might is right.

It’s a sign of totalitarianism, isn’t it?

The latter was the photograph I was referring to in a previous post. The rapist is clearly male.

I still can't get over the rank stupidity of Labour adopting a policy that most of the population opposes, and that looks more dangerous and alarming by the day.

It's sexism, piled on sexism.

The frustration of these men when they were asked to define a woman, only last year, was palpable. Batting it away with why are you asking me about this superficial nonsense when I've got more important matters to talk about.

They should've known that stumbling over the dictionary definition of the word woman wasn't a good look. But they all thought it would go away, because to them, it was entirely irrelevant. The most unimportant thing they could think of and just couldn't get their heads around why people were concerned.

Well said!

BOOM. A triple espresso of a piece.

Fantastic description! And agreed.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/01/2023 15:03

And I don't know why people expect it should engender automatic respect. Why the hell should it?

Quite apart from the fact that the demands reduce my rights, why should anyone respect a group of a self-selected males? On what basis?

Yes, this.

I still am not convinced that there is such a thing as trans, yes people with mental health problems, yes autogynephiles, yes fetishists, yes very confused teenagers also with mental health issues, yes mens rights activists, but extra special true trans, not so sure.

I have seen no objective, measurable data to prove there is true trans. All the material evidence points to your assumption. While I can't prove fairies exist, I can't prove they don't. But this is more like flat Earth theory-all the current evidence shows the Earth is spherical.

And I'd really love for fairies to exist.

DrewHormordr · 21/01/2024 15:38

Autogynophilia (I think that’s the correct spelling).

The gloves have really come off following the incidents of last weekend and weekend. It's become apparent that any line on fairness, right and wrong has disappeared completely, and that our elective representatives have apparently no standards at all, either among themselves or coming down from the top. People are looking going 'what happens when things go too far? Because they just did?' and discovering that actually nothing will. Nothing at all.

Just realised this is a thread from last January x
