www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/mcgill-backlash-anti-trans-talk-1.6708251

TRA's in Canada stormed a Montreal Quebec McGill University's Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism (CHRLP) hosted the event, titled Sex vs. Gender (Identity) Debate In the United Kingdom and the Divorce of LGB from T. It was led by McGill alumnus Robert Wintemute.

The talk was cancelled shortly after.

The CHRLP's website describes the event as a conversation around whether the law should make it easier for a transgender person to change their legal sex, "and about exceptional situations, such as women-only spaces and sports, in which the individual's birth sex should take priority over their gender identity, regardless of their legal sex."

"The T (trans) is so much more vulnerable than the rest of LGB. I think there's tons of scientific evidence speaking to that," said Celeste Trianon, a trans activist who led the protest against the event.

Trianon said Wintemute's talk excludes transgender people's rights and is transphobic, further discriminating against the community.

But Wintemute, the man at the centre of the controversy, maintains he does not promote transphobic views and describes the reaction to his talk as "hysterical."

He says he has a 37 years' experience defending LGB human rights and he would never associate with any group that "promotes hate." He said he came to McGill to promote the message that women have human rights too, but they feel intimidated by the trans rights movement.

"So I have to thank the protesters for giving me first-hand experience of that intimidation," said Wintemute after the event. "Probably the majority of women in this country disagree with some of transgender demands but they refuse to say so because they will be seen as intolerant."

Just a cheap low grade capitalist then, not the champion of a new world wisdom at all.

“We also have the possibility to order packers suitable for even younger boys.”

Just digest that for a minute.

ScrollingLeaves · 13/01/2023 19:53

The parents ordering packers for their little girls are insane people who are transhausens by proxy.

I think it was Dr Hakeem who was dumped by the Tavistock because his therapy group wasn't run on affirmation lines.

Universities are getting worse now, sadly. Years ago, they were safe havens for the left wing and anti-establishment. In the past, I have circulated interesting news articles to colleagues at the university I work at, and these have generally had a clear left wing slant.

While I am not outspoken about my views, I have never tried to keep them a secret either. However, now I would tend to be more cautious about discussing politics due to the rise of "TRAs". Universities are no longer the church of the left that they once were, and are incorporating more and more trans ideology. All I can say is that it's very concerning.

Honestly it was genius really the way they snuck it all into universities. They teach it as a class as if it is already decided as ultimate truth. Get into the thoughts and minds of the young and trick them into becoming their little servants to preach their holy word.

I remember being taught that in university and I thought well if it's being taught in school then it must be well researched and evidence based. 😂 It's kind of terrifying and infuriating how they took advantage of me at a time when I was young, niave and impressionable. I have huge trust issues now because of it.

The way these entitled adult toddlers throw tantrums/chairs/liquids reminds me of the "Two Minute Hate" from George Orwell's 1984. These TRAs should know that he wrote 1984 as a warning NOT an instruction manual.

I'm on my phone, so need to respond to 'save'. Thank you.

The only people in Canada I see openly questioning that are the American worshipping trump make Canada great again hat wearing types. So not really the types you would want to share your feelings with really. At least not for myself.

That is so strange though, because everything about Yaniv was such a horror show. He was, and presumably still is, almost as vile an illustration of the harms of gender ideology as Karen White. If someone had written a deliberately exaggerated cautionary tale to show the extremes of what could happen, they couldn't really have thought up a character much worse than Yaniv.

And yet I remember Meghan Murphy was thrown off Twitter for calling him a man and at one point you would get deleted on MN for even mentioning the name Yaniv. I feel we have come a long way when I look back at that, because I actually thought it would drive me insane at the time. If the Isla Bryson case had come to light in 2018, the public conversation would have been much more strictly censored.

I believe Eliza Mondegreen attempted to attend the event in the OP, she talks about it in conversation with Benjamin Boyce and Stella O’Malley on Boyce’s podcast/YouTube channel

I’ll come back with link.

Relevant bit is at about 22:20

Jenn Smith is a Canadian male trans person who campaigns against paediatric transition and gender identity being prioritised over sex - the Canadian Miranda Yardley, basically. Jenn is perfectly fine with people using he/him pronouns for him.

I expect both Eliza and Jenn could be messaged online if Canadian GC people are looking for a first point of contact?

I think one of the prominent GC campaigners re Women’s prisons might be Canadian too?

I was right - Heather Mason!

She looks to be a good Canadian point of contact for women who want to get more involved or simply want some new friends who understand the issues:

Almost no one in Canada knows anything about Yaniv. None of it appeared in any mainstream media, other than maybe the National Post, but the readership of that is already very narrow.

I think if you asked 100 random people on the street you'd be lucky to find one who knew about it, certainly outside of BC.

"The T (trans) is so much more vulnerable than the rest of LGB. I think there's tons of scientific evidence speaking to that," said Celeste Trianon, a trans activist who led the protest against the event

It would have been good if someone had asked Celeste exactly why "the T" is so much more vulnerable, and what Celeste means by vulnerable. Its all such tedious exaggeration.

Also like the red guards in China's Cultural Revolution. Chillingly similar.

Yep. It’s the same personality type, juat with a different cause.

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 02/04/2023 22:44

It’s such a incoherent movement - here’s footage from 2019 of Jenn Smith on the receiving end of the same bullying tactics from protestors as women get, despite Jenn being just as trans (if not more so!) as the transactivists protesting the event.

If trans people are so vulnerable and so in need of special protections Celeste, why is it OK to bully Jenn?

The police won’t step in and support Jenn against the mob just as they won’t step in and support women against the mob.

Jenn doesn’t count as a vulnerable trans person because Jenn doesn’t believe in the same new religious movement as Celeste.
