"Gender expression, of course, is simply how a person presents themselves in terms of dress and general appearance. So under this law, if your 13-year-old son is meeting some friends for a movie and comes down the stairs wearing only a nappy, a ball gag and an adult bib with “CUM SLUT” printed on it, and you say “You’re not bloody going out dressed like that!”, you’ll be committing a crime for which he can have you arrested as long as he claims it’s part of his gender expression."

There's more, so much more.

I am a bit confused at why they are suggesting that psychological effects should not be put onto the 'mental health services' but instead dealt with by grassroots LGBT groups and community.

Over-generously paid jobs for those TQ+ ‘grassroots’ activists with the ‘right’ ‘lived experience.’

And the government will like it too because it's cheaper, plus they can make politically based decisions about which grassroots groups to fund or not. That's a level of political control they can't exert over NHS mental health services.

Thread on Victoria, Aus, on which this report was largely based:

'official guidance in Victoria states that a parent who does not support their child receiving puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones may be guilty of a criminal offence.'

'A leading lawyer has said ministerial plans to ban conversion therapy in Scotland would “criminalise” parents and preachers.

Aidan O’Neill KC claimed the move could “outlaw” parents who “lovingly and in good faith . . . seek to caution their children”, “with their own best judgment and conscience”.'

The advocate has documented his opinion in 68 pages for the Christian Institute, a non-denominational charity that has engaged his services to prepare for legal action.

The proponents of this dangerous nonsense will use this to discredit and dismiss anything he says.

That classic associating with the ‘wrong people’ thing will come straight in to play. Regardless whether it’s a non-denominational charity, they’ll ignore basic facts and the substance of the argument and complain about these regressive religious dinosaurs who want to harm trans people.

That’s the quality of debate in this issue, even within the Scottish government in 2023.

I would answer but it'd probably be deleted.

Could post some good PIE recipes though.

Does it need a pie chart?

The Scottish Govt can't openly dismiss Christians as a demographic, though.

ArabellaScott · 06/01/2023 23:23

Well, they could. It wouldn't be a very sensible move.

I’m sure they’ll gloss over it as they denounce the right wing organisation funding this. No need to mention religion.

Because the truth appears to be very flexible to many people in the Scottish government.

Just placemarking here.
My DD, ASD & 'selectively mute' (simply canNOT speak when stressed, which is often) is UTTERLY vulnerable under this legislation. We've already had trouble with the NP scheme being abused locally (her NP accused us of 'potential future emotional abuse due to seeking unnecessary assessments' & ref to SS when we asked for an ASD assessment. The NP was the HT who'd decided Dd 'wasn't Autistic, she just had a right English accent like her parents'. (she's also Dyslexic- I'm not sure the HT could even differentiate)
Dd (moved school 18m ago) has a small group of friends now. 75% of them 'are trans'. She wants to fit in, so she is now Trans too. Now, she may still feel this way in 5 years etc but meantime she needs some level headed adults who know her & have her best interests at heart. This is NOT the SNP. Nor anyone else, with their absurdly dangerous legislation. It leaves her very vulnerable.

I realise that I know the chair, I was at school with him and still see him occasionally at social events hosted by mutual friends. I wonder what to say next time I see him, he's a nice ( hetero family) guy but has always been very " right on" as we used to say in the old days.
