This "amazing and unique artwork" has tweeted by Cleveland police and remains up - since 5 Dec.

twitter.com/clevelandpolice/status/1599766240716800002?s=46&t=6r6Eu6dev_pZCGgZGTUoaw

They are aware of online comments about it:

twitter.com/ClevelandPolice/status/1600145417278173184
1/2 Cleveland Police is aware of the interest on social media in the recently published artwork. This is the artwork of a 14 year old girl who created the art following some positive engagement work with the Redcar and Cleveland Response Team.

twitter.com/ClevelandPolice/status/1600145470613061632
2/2 There is no hidden messaging or political statement being made in the art. It is an innocent design created by a young girl.

Please can we ask that people respect the talent and consider the impact the negative comments may have on such a young person.

But seemingly not aware that the account they link to, might well have fished them in. Created in Dec 2022, with a bio that includes: "@ Clevelandpolice are my heroes, please shoutout to them for spreading furry positivity". Sure, it could be a 14yo girl but if it is, do they know who she is and have they considered the impact of her spreading news of an adult sexual fetish? Have they considered that, if this is true, she might actually be in need of a safeguarding assessment?

Then there's the fact that the "furry" officer's radio appears to have a Nazi SS symbol on it. Is that appropriate "artwork" for the police to be spreading, or is that a cause for concern in what's purported to be a 14 yo girl?

If they have been fished in, then what does THAT say about the police?

Bloody hell Cleveland police. They are an absolute shambles already, they seriously need to sort their shit out.

ANewCreation · 07/12/2022 18:43

Is that furry police officer holding a gun???

princessleah1 · 07/12/2022 18:45

Oh that's funny, in a wrong kind of way.

stillvicarinatutu · 07/12/2022 18:55

Wtf.
I know I shouldn't Laugh but I am .

"We furries exist " yep . We know . Like larp and dungeons and dragons and all the other niche stuff - but seriously?? I can see this one getting in at 18 and insisting on wearing ears over the helmet.

Oh dear god . What is happening.

Rightsraptor · 07/12/2022 18:56

I think that is a gun in the furry's left hand.

WTF????

3peassuit · 07/12/2022 18:58

I had to goggle furry. Bloody hell.

ArabellaScott · 07/12/2022 19:21

'Thank you so much for sharing my artwork with the police department and the world to spread awareness that We The Furries exists. To the furry community, thank you all for your compliments. We can do better in spreading the furry domination for our voices to be heard and praised.'

Delphinium20 · 07/12/2022 19:25

While I'm sure this is a social community manager (possibly intern) who is promoting this while the police are off doing actual police work, it's hard for me to believe, even of the most incompetent cop, that any experienced officer would believe this. Aren't they trained to be suspicious of everyone? (It's also why some of them give into their bigoted inclinations) They have to assume people rarely tell the full truth to a cop.

Delphinium20 · 07/12/2022 19:26

Oh wait. It's not Cleveland, Ohio. It's Cleveland, UK. Totally different police.

LizzieSiddal · 07/12/2022 19:31

WTF?

Who actually understands Safeguarding in this country? I really want to know.

Binglebong · 07/12/2022 20:04

There is large furry community now where it is completely innocent and I suspect she is only aware of that. Darker sides tend to take a while to get revealed.

That said I did raise my eyebrow at a 14 yo apparently selling furry costumes.

ClangingBell · 07/12/2022 20:31

That Twitter account is fake, not the person who drew the original picture. Apparently the girl’s school also shared the picture. Pretty weird that this actual 14 year old has been introduced to the world of furries by people getting outraged by the world of furries on the internet tbh.

ResisterRex · 07/12/2022 20:35

The signs point to them having been hoodwinked. But there are clear questions they should have asked themselves:

  • why is a 14yo involved in producing "artwork" that's the same as an adult fetish? Shouldn't they be contacting social services and doing a safeguarding assessment?
  • should a 14yo be online at all on SM? Many are. Doesn't make it right. Who will contact her as a result of being pointed to that account by the police?
  • if a 14yo is drawing "artwork" with Nazi symbolism on it, shouldn't a Prevent assessment / referral arise?

And if it turns out they have been hoodwinked, what training and supervision has been given to those involved in this? Who signed it off?

Sadly, yes it is the UK. Middlesbrough, Stockton, Hartlepool and Redcar and Cleveland.

Lucky, lucky residents.

Pallisers · 07/12/2022 22:27

Apart from everything else, why would a UK police force happily post a picture of a police .... animal .... with a drawn gun??

We shouldn’t forget this Cleveland Scandal…..

The Cleveland child abuse scandal is a wave of suspected child sexual abuse cases in 1987 in Cleveland, England, many of which were later discredited.

Cleveland in Northern England
In that year a large number of child sexual abuse allegations followed the use of a new and controversial diagnostic test by paediatricians at the Middlesbrough Hospital. A total of 121 children were removed from their parents as a result. In 1988 the Butler-Sloss Inquiry into the cases concluded that most of the diagnoses were incorrect; 94 of the children were subsequently returned and the two paediatricians involved were criticized. In 1991 the Children Act was implemented, in part as a result of the scandal and the ensuing report. In 1997 a controversial TV documentary suggested that the majority of the diagnoses were in fact correct, and that a number of the children had again been determined to be at risk of abuse.

Background

History
Edit

In the years prior to the scandal, levels of reported child abuse in the Cleveland area were consistent with those of other parts of the United Kingdom.[1] However, in 1987, during the period of February to July, many children living in Cleveland were removed from their homes by social service agencies and diagnosed as sexually abused.[2] The 121 diagnoses were made by two paediatricians at a Middlesbrough hospital, Marietta Higgs and Geoffrey Wyatt, using the later-discredited diagnostic of reflex anal dilation.[2] When there were not enough foster homes in which to place the allegedly abused children, social services began to house the children in a ward at the local hospital.[1]

Later, the test being used to establish child abuse was contested by the area police surgeon, and cooperation between the social workers, police and hospital doctors involved in diagnosis began to disintegrate.[1] In addition, there was public concern regarding the practices being used by the local social service agency, such as the removal of children from their homes in the middle of the night.[1] In May 1987, parents marched from the hospital where their children were being held to the local newspaper. The resulting media coverage caused the social service agency's practices to receive public scrutiny and criticism.[1] In response, the Butler-Sloss report was commissioned by the Secretary of State for Social Services in July 1987 and published in 1988.[2]

The report was led by Elizabeth Butler-Sloss and it concluded that most of the diagnoses were incorrect.[2] As a result, 94 of the 121 children were returned to their homes.[2][3] An editorial in The Lancet concluded: "The kindest description of Dr Marietta Higgs and Dr Geoffrey Wyatt would be to say that they were naive, but naivety should not number among a consultant paediatrician's characteristics. By their bull-headed approach, Dr Higgs and Dr Wyatt... have set back the cause they sought to promote."[4] In July 1988, six MPs tabled a House of Commons motion for charges of indecent assault and conspiracy to be brought against Higgs and Wyatt.[4]

On 14 October 1991, the Children Act 1989 was implemented in full as a result of the Cleveland child abuse scandal[5] and other child related events that preceded it.[1]

In 1997, a controversial television documentary, The Death of Childhood, claimed that "independent experts under the guidance of the Department of Health later found that at least 70 per cent of the diagnoses" were correct.[6][7] According to the documentary, two years after the scandal a number of children were again referred to social services and determined to be at risk for child abuse.[7]

In February 2007, Sir Liam Donaldson, the Chief Medical Officer, who was the regional medical officer at the time of the scandal, said of the original diagnoses: "The techniques that have been used have not been reliable and it does look as if some mistakes have been made."[8] A few days later, two of the children who had been the focus of the scandal asked the Middlesbrough police for an investigation of their 1987 experience.

Who says 'the police department '? Doesn't sound like British English to me. And as for 'the furry domination' - what on earth is that?

eurochick · 07/12/2022 22:54

I'm very tired so I am sure I'm missing something obvious, but what is the nazi symbolism?

RoseslnTheHospital · 07/12/2022 23:04

The nazi SS logo is apparently visible on close inspection of the uniform drawn on the "furrie".

Yup, there's an SS runes insignia on the walkie talkie above the Union Jack patch.

RoseslnTheHospital · 07/12/2022 23:17

Everything about this whole thing just makes me incredulous. It is unbelievable. Whoever though this was ok to post and defend are dangerously stupid.
