Feminist content optional but GC feminist values, critical thinking and optimism preferred, levity also good! I'm listening on Apple podcasts.

I've enjoyed:
Gender: a Wider Lens
Julie Bindel's Podcast
Blocked and Reported
Jim Harold's Campfire
Uncanny
More or Less
Clear and Vivid
The Office Ladies
Talking Sopranos

I used to love Thinking Allowed but I've gone off it a bit due to it going woo/mushy but would love a replacement.

Just started listening to Honestly with Bari Weiss.

Liking the presenter/journalist so far and subjects look interesting.

BettyFilous · 07/12/2022 18:00

Bari Weiss has sessions where she gets two people at opposite ends of the spectrum on an issue on to discuss it like grown-ups. And they do, which is quite refreshing in this day and age.

countrypunk · 08/12/2022 08:17

@BettyFilous Ooh yeah, the one with Louise Perry and Jill Filipovic was brilliant. Plus everyone here should read Louise Perry's book. It's fantastic.

This episode with Sal Grover on Savage Minds is good. Will be listening to more of these.

Been enjoying Bari Weiss Honestly recommended by pp too.

@crispinglovershighkick I thought they didn't really develop their arguments over porn - they just stated their opinions, but didn't engage fully with the opinions of the other.

WarriorN · 12/12/2022 15:00

Following!

crispinglovershighkick · 17/12/2022 12:04

Citron from what I can see so far it seems like even (especially?) in so called heterodox spaces people are reluctant to engage on the specifics on which they disagree. Maybe it's such a novelty to be discussing opposing points of view with civility that the civility becomes the feature on show. The dicussions seem more gingerly than they need to be.

JS and KH enjoy being very sneery one-on-one but treat guest almost too cordially. I see KH as a contrarian, I'm not sure what her actual beliefs are.

Laura Richards - The Crime Analyst.
She's utterly fab. Calls it like it is and focuses on women and their experiences, plus rips the media glamourised reporting of male perps to shreds. Fucking awesome woman. She's involved in (all, I think) the coercive control laws wherever they come in in the world!!

Totally agree ⬆️
I love her very specific focus on women victims and survivors and the patriarchy. Really refreshing.

If you like true crime I have an inkling that Redhanded is a bit GC. Amongst other things Suruthi made a comment about Tunnocks tea cakes and I found myself wondering…..

I really hope they are gc. However, I sometimes read the redhanded subreddit and someone posted that they deleted the foreword to their book as they found out the person who wrote it was a "terf " I don't know who wrote the foreword or even if this is true. That subreddit is full of handmaidens. It may be that Hannah and Suruti were just trying to please their misogynistic fanbase.

RUNPMTS · 17/12/2022 12:30

Also as much as I like some of redhandeds episodes, their take on Hillsborough was appalling ( blamed "drunken hooligans" for the tragedy) so I always take their ramblings with a pinch of salt. Having said that, they are much better than any American true crime podcast I've listened to.

They aren't the most sensitive of women, unfortunately.

knittingaddict · 17/12/2022 12:33

They've also never come across as GC. Possibly the other way.

CouldYouGetRid · 17/12/2022 19:59

I agree on RedHanded sadly.

The fallout on their Facebook group was huge after this. First it was felt that their apology was too slow in coming, then it wasn’t enough of an apology. I thought at the time however hard they apologise, it will NEVER be enough for some people.

Meghan Daum’s Unspeakeasy episode with film maker Sarah Polley is a fantastic conversation. Her new film Take the Waltz (around the 32 min mark) sounds such a thought-provoking concept. I have confidence she has done it justice too.

boatyardblues · 19/12/2022 18:01

Take This Waltz, not Take the Waltz.

boatyardblues · 19/12/2022 18:04

Shoot me now! This is her new film: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_Talking_(film)

BertieBotts · 19/12/2022 18:04

Along with some of the above, The Midwives Cauldron, and Conspirituality.

DameMaud · 16/03/2023 13:05

Thanks for heads-up on The Psychology Podcast Genesis.

  • *Cant believe I've not come across that one before now.

If anyone's interested in cults I really recommend 'On the Edge' podcast (Andrew Gold) A Lot on cults, but also very far ranging into other areas eg; a fascinating interview with the journalist who built a personal connection with Shamima Begum, wrongful convictions, free speech, Alec Baldwin, Julian Assange. Black Holes. Oh. And Robbie Williams!
Yep- pretty eclectic but always interesting.

Axolotlquestions · 17/03/2023 21:16

The Witch Trials of JK Rowling. Incredibly interesting. Such a fascinating history of a certain type of person who, in the 90s, obsessed about Harry Potter and who now hate Rowling and see her as transphobic.

beastlyslumber · 18/03/2023 07:02

Oh yes, the witch trials of JK Rowling is utterly fascinating
