Worth a read, in the Guardian www.theguardian.com/society/2022/nov/24/an-explosion-what-is-behind-the-rise-in-girls-questioning-their-gender-identity?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

I want a really good journalist to get their teeth stuck into that ghoul of a woman. She triggers such rage in me. Anger and what she does and anger that she is allowed to do it. All my pacifist tendencies disappear. I want to see her punished. It is a horrible feeling.

Amusing new "birth registered female" phrase rather than the utterly bullshit "assigned female at birth". I presume this is the new "we never said 'born in the wrong body'". They know the stupid language is catching them out.

I think “birth registered female" is the phrase used by Hilary Cass. I agree, "assigned female/male at birth” is bonkers, like the midwife tosses a coin or something.

Could anyone find the article on the Guardian's twitter? I spent ages looking for it, for the comments as they don't allow any on the website.

I feel this is a huge step in the right direction, I agree that they need to break this to their readers gently. There are obvious omissions from the full picture, however, it's taken hundreds of MN threads to cover most of those aspects in depth and what I want to see isn't one exhaustive article (then nothing else about it), I want them to cover each of these things separately, in all the depth they require, with detailed investigative reporting, scientific evidence, and the perspectives of those harmed, for every single issue that hasn't been covered in this article and every issue she's touched on (like puberty blockers). I want lots and lots of articles. One article can be missed/scrolled past. Dozens of articles on different aspects will catch more people and bring more awareness.

Tl;dr: This is a real watershed for the Grun, I look forward to them working on more within this area.

Agree.

After years of genderist propaganda, Guardian readers are not going to leap two-footed into gender critical views.

This is exactly the kind of measured, factual and cool-headed piece that will allow them space to ask questions of the orthodoxy.

@Rainbowshit thank you!

Guardian following the money. Now that the general public understand what 'trans rights' really means, it's clear that they are overwhelmingly against it. The Guardian doesn't want to lose any more women readers.

Expect the Labour Party to capitulate next. Starmer isn't stupid.

The Guardian also realises it needs to be on the right side of history once the enquiries, arrests and court cases begin.

It’s on their Facebook page, currently >600 comments.

ArabellaScott · 25/11/2022 11:00

Comments are interesting on the FB post. Not what I'd expected. I think on this issue it looks like the Guardian is actually behind its readership.

I agree - there's a danger when GC voices/opinions move into the mainstream that they forget they're talking to people who don't have a lot of knowledge and background info. You have to transmit differently.

I've had occasion recently to listen to work colleagues discussing the issue and it's quite eye opening to hear what people say when they're simply not aware of what's happening (they think that LGBT education in schools is just about telling children to be tolerant towards trans people, for instance). I have to think very carefully about how I gently introduce alternative perspectives/information.

This is a tangent on another Guardian article, Dining Across the Divide, but it annoyed me and I wanted to put it somewhere

The piece is edited by Zoe William.

This bit particularly irritated me

Yes. I think effective discussion involves leaving space for people to arrive at conclusions themselves and work through their thoughts.

Best done by asking a few key questions, avoiding getting into a tit-for-tat, keeping the temperature calm and staying with evidence and logic. I would say.

Before we even get to the golden bridge stage, we've got to make a space where people can get perspective and get past various thought terminating cliches.

The very first one is 'no debate'. We are still just at the beginning of getting past that, really.

I think there are layers to this issue. People didn't accept it all wholesale, it's been a gradual process of learning what they are not allowed to say, think, or believe, and there are layers of catechism and faith articles that probably have to be looked at patiently, one by one.

That article annoyed me too.

Righteous left-winger puts his date ‘right’ on things.

Igmum · 25/11/2022 15:50

Spot on @RoyalCorgi but I am so relieved to see signs of journalism at the Guardian (admittedly writing about it as though this is a new perspective also sticks in the craw).

Igmum · 25/11/2022 15:56

Oh good heavens that dinner! I thought Isaac was making some good points and Rishi wasn't listening

Abra1t · 25/11/2022 16:00

If I were Isaac I'd be washing my hair if a second date is suggested.

IcakethereforeIam · 25/11/2022 17:13

'Leftwing people get cancelled to but I can't give any examples' well he probably could but they'd mostly be GC women.

IcakethereforeIam · 25/11/2022 17:15

Ffs *too, I'd give Rishi the benefit of the doubt, it might be down to the editingHmm

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 25/11/2022 17:18

No quote from an actual detransitioned teen though!

IcakethereforeIam · 25/11/2022 21:23

The tweets under that article are pretty unequivocal.
