www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/11/14/nhs-scotland-plans-fast-track-irreversible-surgery-trans-patients/

Begins:

"Scotland’s NHS is planning to fast-track irreversible surgeries for transgender patientss_, documents seen by The Telegraph reveal.
An NHS Scotland report, suggesting new transgender treatment rules, calls for “barriers” to gender reassignment surgery to be removed and proposes radical measures to make operations more widely available.
These include allowing GPs, rather than specialists, to send patients for procedures and that a “single opinion” is enough to refer for surgery in most cases.
Trans patients can “benefit” from operations including mastectomies, breast implants and genital reassignment, as well as hormone treatments, even if they do not experience “distress” about their gender identity, it is claimed.
The proposed treatment rules say that a patient’s background or mental health need not be examined in detail before they are referred for the procedures.
The report goes on to call for an “affirming” model of non-surgical care to still be delivered to childrenn_, despite an expert review for NHS England, conducted by the esteemed paediatrician Hilary Cass, raising concerns about the approach."

This is nuts. The enormous ethical implications aside, haven't they noticed things like the Cass Review? The fact that detransitioners both in the UK and the US are starting to bring lawsuits against hospitals? In other words, can't they see which way the wind is blowing?

I think maybe they can see the way the wind is blowing and the acceleration and escalation is their response.

Igmum · 15/11/2022 10:21

So, so worried about those poor troubled children.

MangyInseam · 15/11/2022 10:31

I find it incredibly hard to understand as well. It does seem like escalation, but I do not believe the regular people going along with this, like NS, want to damage young children and teens. I really don't. But in the face of all the questions that are now arising, how is there not caution?

It's the same here in Canada where I am, but people are much less aware of things like the Cass report, or what is going on in Sweden because no news really covers it.

The only thing that makes any sense to me about these Scottish leaders is that they have really convinced themselves that England is full of bigots, lagging behind all the rest of the west. On the wrong side of history. But that must involve a huge effort to not see what is becoming increasingly evident.

Why the hell to People in Scotland keep voting for Sturgeon and her cronies?

Scotland. Where you can't wear a scarf

Rainbow lanyards to support LGBTQ+ - good for Scottish Parliment officials.

Suffragette colours to support Women's rights - banned.

You can't really make it clearer, can you?

ResisterRex · 15/11/2022 10:59

I'm not usually in the Offended Camp but not allowing a scarf of women's suffrage colours is offensive. And fucking sinister.

I can't understand Shona Robison's apparent inability to consider that transwomen, like all humans, have the capacity to be fallible, lie, and commit crime. She's effectively said that it's impossible for transwomen to commit a crime.

It's astonishing. It's either incredibly impressive lack of understanding or ... well, I don't know what.

'The rules for attendees on the reverse of the ticket only mentions "banners or slogans". There were no words on the scarf, which was being worn in an entirely normal way. I think this is a case of discrimination based on a protected belief.'

ArabellaScott · 15/11/2022 11:09

'Update: just spoken to Security Manager. Apparently our wicked coloured scarves were spotted on the TV coverage of the committee hearing & the Security Manager's manager decided they were political & should not be displayed.'

But rainbow lanyards are political?

Why the hell to People in Scotland keep voting for Sturgeon and her cronies?

I've stopped. I've been an SNP voter all my life but last lot of elections (Council?) I held my nose and voted for Alba as well as a local independent.

To answer your question, I think it's because this still isn't seen by many as a mainstream issue, if they're aware of it at all. Even those that are aware, my DH for example, think it's all about the dick and they shouldn't be in women's spaces without "The Op". I'm constantly having to counter this with "No, it's any males, full stop".

I think a lot of "decent" men in general don't fully "get" the extent of the problem as 1) They don't live their lives in a state of constant awareness, as women do. 2) Because they personally wouldn't behave like that, they underestimate how many other men would, and do.

ArabellaScott · 15/11/2022 11:09

'When asked why multiple MSPs & staff were then allowed to wear rainbow lanyards (since they are one of the THE political statements de jour), the Security Manager squirmed and said he understood the point I was making. Now waiting for call from Security Manager's Manager'

ArabellaScott · 15/11/2022 11:14

Joanna Cherry on Scarfgate:

'It seems no rule has been broken so this woman should be readmitted or the ScotParl could face a claim of discrimination on the grounds of belief, particularly where MSPs are permitted to wear rainbow colours. This is not my Scotland.'

Scarfs now by Christ.

I used to be proud to be Scottish.

This is not my Scotland.

Rainbowshit · 15/11/2022 00:31

Why? I just don't get it. Why have supposedly intelligent people lost their collective minds?

If they don't have gender dysphoria then it's not healthcare, it's cosmetic. So why should the NHS fund it?

Why When the NHS is in such a state due to underfunding and people are dying because of huge waiting lists?

This makes me so angry.

And then a few years down the line we'll be paying out compensation for the irreversible damage caused because they didn't explore any mental health issues.

This!!

Escapefromcolditz · 15/11/2022 12:59

This is great news.

I’m 2.5 years into waiting for investigative surgery for suspected endometriosis. I have male pattern hirsuitism which is getting worse with age but can’t get any nhs treatment for it. The Local health board is a shambles.

Under new proposals I’m going declare myself trans and get the whole load treated as priority gender reassignment surgery and therapies. Because women don’t matter.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 15/11/2022 13:02

Why the hell to People in Scotland keep voting for Sturgeon and her cronies?

Because it's not just Sturgeon and her cronies, they're all at it apart from the Conservatives so who do you want us to vote for? Or there's Alba headed by charming feminist icon Alex Salmond (see also "You've Been Trumped")

I am starting to think that nothing short of a clean sweep by the Scottish Conservative party in whatever election comes next could make any other party think twice about any of this. And that is not going to happen and I don't really want to it to, at least not on any other issue but this one.

I thought they'd at least respect age. But then, there are Scottish schools proudly hiding name changes from parents and encouraging older children to promote trans identities to younger ones. The sheer cluelessness of it all.

TheGreatATuin · 15/11/2022 13:05

This is mad. Its just plastic surgery completely on demand.

Whereareyourshoes · 15/11/2022 13:10

“Trans patients can “benefit” from operations including mastectomies, breast implants and genital reassignment, as well as hormone treatments, even if they do not experience “distress” about their gender identity, it is claimed.”

WTAF. No distress but you can get plastic surgery for a pair of fake tits just because you feel like it?!?

Welcome to Scotland where living as ‘your authentic self’ can be carried out through plastic surgery on demand and falsified official records. ‘It’s only admin!’

nilsmousehammer · 15/11/2022 13:41

What are the waiting lists like for things like GP counselling? CAMHS? Autism diagnosis? SImilar to England where the waits run into years at the moment?

Is the aim that mental distress must be swiftly ameliorated and reduced with prophylactic measures?

Or is the aim to treat one group of the population with a much higher standard of service and funding than the rest of the population?

On what mandate?

Today's news: 'GP surgeries across Scotland are at risk of collapsing because of staff shortages and increased demand, a senior doctor has warned.'

ArabellaScott · 15/11/2022 14:12

Humza's in charge. Given that he 'took charge' of the ferries, only to give up and fuck off after deciding he couldn't actually fix the issues, I'm not reassured.

And the Scottish government wants more money from Westminster for their NHS because it is in crisis with long waiting lists? How have priorities got so skewed in Scotland?

Nicola Sturgeon.

Why the hell to People in Scotland keep voting for Sturgeon and her cronies?

I genuinely believe people don't realise this is happening! It's only just started to be repeated in the mainstream. My friends didn't realise (I've been into this for a while), they just associate independence + the Tory mess = SNP. I've never been so devastated politically to be Scottish. But also - there's no credible opposition either. It's like choosing between eating a shit sandwich or a shit roll.
