Super mum calendars

I need a rant. What kind of bulls**t are these calendars. We just get lumbered with the blatant assumption we will organise and do everything - it drives me nuts. They should make the equivalent dad calendar, where there's no room to write anything except details of sporting matches and when the car is due for MOT 🙈🙈🙈

That’s an odd looking crack pipe?

Kgold · 08/11/2022 22:10

@proamble clearly from the new super mum range! She's on multiple types of crack to help her get through the day 😂

I wouldn't mind it if it had more swears.

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 09/11/2022 01:18

yes one must also be constantly smiling and 'never complain' right?

MangyInseam · 09/11/2022 02:10

I can see mums buying this but I doubt many dads would. So, it wouldn't make a lot of sense to make one for dads.

wackamole · 09/11/2022 02:30

They could just put a dad in the background, sprawled out on the couch in his pants in front of the TV with his Stella, crisps, and X-box.

(Kidding! But actually I guess it would be a comparable stereotype.)

JellySaurus · 09/11/2022 07:21

Absolutely boak.

Which is one of the reasons why I buy this planner - no gender-stereotypes.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 09/11/2022 08:33

I'm sure it appeals to some women's martyr complexes...

RocketPanda · 09/11/2022 08:38

I have a the same one @JellySaurus , I refuse to buy any of the super mum calendar type. It's a backhanded compliment implying that Mum's are brilliant and can do everything all at once. That's not super human it's a life of drudgery.

JellySaurus · 09/11/2022 10:33

Besides being an offensive sexist stereotype, that cover would be insulting to my dh. He was the one cooking with a baby on his hip. He is the one waiting at home for the plumber right now. He is a full contributor to the running of our household. And I'm sure he's not the only male partner who does this, regardless of the stereotypes of his sex.

That cover just perpetuates both stereotypes.

SmallElephants · 09/11/2022 10:37

The gruffalo one is cute and has no gender stereotypes at all just 5 unlabelled columns for members of the family. And some good stickers. If you have little kids.

TheForests · 09/11/2022 11:07

I totally agree! Awful things

NitroNine · 09/11/2022 15:01

@SmallElephants
Are you trying to gatekeep the Gruffalo!? And/or stickers?! <shocked face, swooning, etc> 😉

I've got that one too!

Ahem! Link?

OrangePomander · 09/11/2022 18:58

We usually have the Gruffalo one, the stickers are mostly swiped by the resident teenager!

ArabellaScott · 09/11/2022 19:14

I feel like I'm failing Mumsnet by asking this, but wtf are family organisers FOR?

I've looked at them once or twice and can't work out how they're different than a calendar, except from being less helpful.

AnApparitionQuipped · 09/11/2022 19:15

What's that in her mouth?

Agree, I'm also confused by these.

Dh would look at his column and see it's free, but not look at the other columns and spot that dc need to simultaneously be transported to opposite ends of the county. That's how his mind works (not all men etc)

Confusing and useless!

Unless you're meant to allocate the columns to different times? Before 8am, 8-12, Lunchtime, etc?

ArabellaScott · 09/11/2022 19:33

Don't look at me, I prefer to operate on a 'do nothing, go nowhere' family motto.

OrangePomander · 09/11/2022 19:34

We use it as a calendar, but the separate columns allow you to check quickly where everyone is supposed to be, and plan for how they are going to get there and back. Between me, dh and oldest dc we run three different electronic calendar systems so if it’s not on the wall planner it doesn’t exist!

ArabellaScott · 09/11/2022 19:40

Hm. I suspect this is for people who are busy. A situation I avoid at all costs.

SmallElephants · 09/11/2022 19:45

Ok you lot! Looks like they’re doing it again for next year

@JellySaurus @NitroNine although last years was just 12 months. But the layout and stickers look just the same. It’s lovely!

Yes - I can't imagine having enough going on at home to warrant more than a bog standard calendar with a square or line per day.

Except for being covered in flowers. Confused How many men would buy that?
