Some light relief in sport

The Boston Marathon has added a new non-binary category for runners. Great, right?

Except this is the comment from one parent of a runner who identifies as non-binary.

Ok....this will likely start a bunch of hateful comments but here goes: As the parent of a non-binary runner, I applaud the effort for inclusion. However, perhaps a more level playing field, specifically in sports, would be non-binary AMAB and non-binary AFAB. Just my 2 cents.

So the parent realises that non-binary females are disadvantaged by being placed in the same category as non-binary males, and wants it separated by... sex.

i assume anything that does not Centre Zak’s super specialness to be apparent to all is deemed humiliating

Another interesting article from that Outsports link proudly listing 17 trans women winners of national and international sporting competitions including a golfer who won €12,500 in a driving competition...

WomaninBoots · 03/11/2022 08:44

3.09 would not qualify him this person for Boston.... in the male category... (assuming he's this person is under 29).

Never underestimate the self-confidence and self-congratulations of a mediocre male.

The constant They and Themming in that artical is so jarring. I keep wondering which group of people the writer is talking about and realise its just 1 mans group sized ego.
I can't believe people intentionally other themselves by referring to themselves as Themselves. (Phew!)

Prize money seems a little 'participation award' in that case.

Yep, I saw that. 17 people who were men proudly beating women at sports. I've read up on some of these athletes - Kate Weatherly did not impress many of the women competitors in her sport and Natalie Ryan has been said to throw a disc golf in a way that no woman ever has.

I believe this years marathon is offering prize money.

Tmrw’s NYC Marathon offers prize money for the first time in the non-binary category as follows (to be eligible for prize money, must run sub 3:10).

  1. $5,000
  2. $4,000
  3. $3,000
  4. $2,000
  5. $1,000

How convenient for Zachery. By 2021 standards they’d win. For a mediocre performance.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 06/11/2022 20:56

I wonder how long it will take the XX non-binaries to get pissed off that the XY non-binaries are winning everything.

In a bit of a bind, aren't they?

Dare they object? Because that would be admitting that the sex binary does exist and "non binary" is a nonsense.

Thus invalidating their own declared identity.

I mean, what a dilemma.

But they can’t can they? I mean…. All non binaries are equal apparently. And no one can tell the difference between a male NB and a female NB. They are hoist by their own petard.

LisaPandervump · 06/11/2022 22:35

This is hilarious 😆

TheBiologyStupid · 06/11/2022 22:36

One to file under "You couldn't make it up". 😂

WomaninBoots · 06/11/2022 22:42

Sub-3.10. The non-binary prize is an extra blokes prize then...

LizzieSiddal · 06/11/2022 22:43

What an absolute shit show 😂

ErrolTheDragon · 06/11/2022 22:58

All non binaries are equal apparently.

But some are more equal than others.

For a man who came 696th or something (quoted up thread). So prize money to a mediocre male.

Helleofabore · 07/11/2022 08:48

The other way to look at it is that the time to achieve is set so low it rewards people way down the field.

By rights, a woman could win that prize money if they declared themselves NB. Because the bar is set conveniently so that Zach could win it. Imagine, if they set it at 3.05 and Zach couldn’t get Zach’s time down!!!

But that the bar is set so low says what exactly?

Of course, if it was a competition between two people who were at the peak of their sex class category then yes, it would be always going to a male.

These were the top 5 times in the non-binary category for Chicago, if anyone is wondering.

  1. 02:47:12

  2. 02:58:50

  3. 03:21:32

  4. 03:22:02

  5. 03:31:43

Looks like the third place non-binary, Elliott Paynter, is female. It's a pain having to look at the photos to find out the runners sex but if anybody else can be bothered that would be interesting.

IcakethereforeIam · 07/11/2022 17:25

I wonder, if the non-binary times were plotted on a graph, what the graph would look like?
