Some light relief in sport

The Boston Marathon has added a new non-binary category for runners. Great, right?

Except this is the comment from one parent of a runner who identifies as non-binary.

Ok....this will likely start a bunch of hateful comments but here goes: As the parent of a non-binary runner, I applaud the effort for inclusion. However, perhaps a more level playing field, specifically in sports, would be non-binary AMAB and non-binary AFAB. Just my 2 cents.

So the parent realises that non-binary females are disadvantaged by being placed in the same category as non-binary males, and wants it separated by... sex.

AFABism

Perfect 🎯

Whoever is doing all this discriminatory assigning is just asking to get sued.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 01/11/2022 01:02

Curiously, neither of the runners quoted in the Chicago piece linked above, share the concerns of the parent in my OP.

I think the images make it clear why not.

😁honestly that statement

Datun · 01/11/2022 01:21

Didn't anyone think when they made a sports category non-binary that it was going to highlight the binary like nothing else? How come nobody can think even five minutes into the future??

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 01/11/2022 01:30

Maybe that's why the Chicago Marathon was so quiet about introducing the category.

One thing I keep asking? How come subscribers to gender identity philosophy are both insistent that we can't tell men and women apart, and also insistent that sex isn't immutable, and yet simultaneously adamant that they can tell whether someone was "assigned female/male at birth"? How do they know? Were they there? Grin

Bump
just for anyone who hasn’t seen this, because you deserve a laugh
😂

MrsJamin · 01/11/2022 07:05

They really will never be satisfied by special allowances will they, there's always more ways people should be making them feel special, accommodated, considered... Chicago marathon shouldn't have tried in the first place. And as for binary nonbinaries 😂 what an own goal!

NoPrivateSpy · 01/11/2022 07:14

Why are you so snarky about a non binary category? Isn't this what you wanted?

Theeyeballsinthesky · 01/11/2022 07:33

loooool they’re so fucking dense light could bend round them 😆

who’d have thunk that male NB ppl would beat female NB ppl in a race. Why it’s almost as if biology actually fucking matters & you can’t identify out of it

NecessaryScene · 01/11/2022 07:48

We don't want it, because it's ridiculous. We believe all non-binaries should compete in their normal sexed category.

People are free to choose to compete in a mixed-sex "non-binary" category and self-exclude from the main categories if they want, but that doesn't stop the inevitable ridiculous consequence from being comical.

Non-binary is ridiculous, and anything based on being non-binary ends up being ridiculous.

Supporting your freedom of association doesn't mean we won't be snarky about what your association is/does.

I think you'll find I said it was "great". I don't want male non-binaries jammed in to the female category, and I'm sick of seeing that happening.

We're noticing that people who have decried our need for female-only sport, and told us that women should just 'try harder', suddenly realising that the non-binary, mixed-sex race category they wanted will negatively impact their female relatives. Why is that not allowed?

@noprivatespy i have been on these boards for many a year and i think i can safely say never have i ever seen anyone advocating for non binary categories in sport. You seem to be missing rather alot

It's what we used to have. Sport divided by sex, not 'gender'. Male and female, fully inclusive.

So non binaries are to be split into two binary categories?

Looks like it 😂 GI is eating itself…

Thanks for posting this.

We want separate sporting categories for men and women. Apparently some gender ideologists do too. It’s just that they have to call it something different and pretend they were the ones who came up with the idea.

Oh, that is so weird that the NB times are the same as for the women. I wonder how they arrived at those 🙄

Quite so.

Male and female categories. And if there those who insist they don't want to take part in sex-based categories, then either making the male category open to anyone, or having an additional third category called "open".

"non binary" is a nonsense.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 01/11/2022 11:58

The 'non binary' category is excellent for showing just how batshit it all is.

How narcissistic must you be to demand your own batshit category because you're much more special than all the other men and women.

They need to get over themselves and compete in their sex class like every other man and woman.

dunBle · 01/11/2022 12:32

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 01/11/2022 00:22

At some point, someone should notice that treating male non-binaries and female non-binaries the same always seems to result in male bodies and male health needs being treated as default, and female specific needs being ignored. Someone should notice that this creates systematic, institutional discrimination, like females being driven out of sport. Perhaps someone could create a political movement to address female people being excluded. What would they call it?

Fenbyism?

PuttingDownRoots · 01/11/2022 12:39

I'm one of those who is happy with their being a third category, especially in mass participation events. But by entering the third category, you accept that some have a significant biological advantage i.e. sex. Or are taking hormones.

If you want your sex to be recognised, you need to enter the correct sex category/not take testosterone.

Qualifying times could maybe be an average of the two sex classes.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 01/11/2022 12:53

If it was an average of both classes, that would mean female athletes who identified as non-binary would have to have a faster running record to apply for a non-binary place than any other female participant. The organisers would actually be transphobic, because the rules would disadvantage females with a non-binary identity against other female participants!

So that can't work. That's why the organisers have simply exported the female standards across.

The non-binary category is in old money a mixed-sex category. Those who don't believe that there biological and physical differences between the sexes are free to participate in those categories and see the reality. This is what happens when ideology meets reality.

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/11/2022 13:47

But Calamia grew concerned when they realized there was no “elite” nonbinary division, as in the male and female races, or any finish line ribbon or monetary prize.

So there would be two monetary prizes for men and just one for women (and in most sports the male prize is bigger anyway). Cool cool.
