“I want to get this conversation off Twitter, I want to stop debating people’s lives”

I bet you do mate. Not going your way at the moment is it.

isnt that what Nancy said when she was appointed before doubling down and making everything even worse?

That went well!

Asdavaluesausage · 30/10/2022 14:36

What happened to Nancy??? They kept that quiet!!

TheClogLady · 30/10/2022 14:38

They aren’t best pleased with Iain’s TV appearance over on the Transgenderuk sub redddit!

Theeyeballsinthesky · 30/10/2022 14:39

He’s the new Chair replacing Sheldon mills. Nancy is still CEO

Mollyollydolly · 30/10/2022 14:39

Back in the shadows eh Iain. No chance. You've lost the narrative and you're not having it back. Best wishes, women.

HermioneWeasley · 30/10/2022 14:40

Perhaps stop requiring chambers for stop giving work to a black lesbian because she’s guilty of wrong think? That sort of behaviour generates a lot of bad feeling

Mollyollydolly · 30/10/2022 14:41

And why didn't the BBC get LGBAlliance on too? Gay men and lesbians dont all hold the same opinions. I would have loved to see that on the BBC. It's not a debate when it's just Stonewall.

Asdavaluesausage · 30/10/2022 14:46

Aaah gotcha. I was very confused.

Yup.

If one was cynical, one might say they're just trying to look less aggressive to the public while they wait it out, unsure who will win the next election.

More cynically, one might think this might be because in the short-term, they'll have Kemi to contend with. Burning bridges with her would be spectacularly dense, as it'll leave them out in the cold before the next election, thus being behind on government policythink and civil servants they can't have contact with.

SnapeAlways · 30/10/2022 15:57

Of course he wants the conversation off Twitter where women can speak and back into the male dominated corridors of power, where deals can be struck.

Plus a few months ago he was chanting TRA slogans…

This was just a tiny part of the programme, it was mostly about UK politics this week in general. It wasn't in any sense a debate about Stonewall itself or its policies or aims - it was just something that came up tangentially in the context of Kemi Badenoch's appointment. Anderson had been invited because he describes himself as a "long-time Conservative-watcher" or something - can't remember if that's the exact words but that's the gist.

But yes it would be good to have Bev or Kate on one week too - again as general politics commentators as well as for any specialist issues that come up!

Shelefttheweb · 30/10/2022 17:07

Worried Elon is going to stop the cancellation of women on twitter?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 30/10/2022 17:16

He’s happy to have the conversation on Twitter as long as the Twitter playing field is tilted in his direction. The moment it’s not he suddenly decides he no longer wants it there. Transparent.

ArabellaScott · 30/10/2022 17:52

'I want to stop debating'

Fine, stop then. We'll keep going.

applesandpears33 · 30/10/2022 18:11

I agree that less shouting would be good. It would also be helpful if Stonewall could acknowledge some of the concerns that women have raised instead of trying to silence them - eg lesbians should rethink their genital preferences and women who have experienced rape and want single sex facilities should reframe their trauma.

Asdavaluesausage · 30/10/2022 18:14

Is he going to retract the “lesbians are sexual racists” comments issued by the CEO?

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 30/10/2022 18:19

I don't disagree with less shouting - but maybe less rape and death threats too, but it certainly my experience that the shouting (and the rape and death threats) are all flowing one way.

In the other direction you have women with the temerity to say 'no', to say 'I disagree' and, when the occasion calls for it, to say 'hell no'.

FigRollsAlly · 30/10/2022 18:35

I was very puzzled when Laura K introduced him as a long term Tory watcher without mentioning his job title and then the title of Chair of Stonewall appeared on screen underneath his name. Did his previous job/s involve close observation of the Tories? He said he wanted to meet with women’s groups so I hope he does a better job of taking on board our concerns than eg Nicola Sturgeon. Or maybe he’ll just speak to the right sort of groups and hopes to thrash out some sort of dodgy deal with those who hold the real power.

Did they actually start? I've been sworn at, been mocked, threatened with rape, told to die in a fire, demeaned for my genitals, and been called 'bigot', 'transphobe' and all the rest.

But there wasn't really any debate in there.

ResisterRex · 30/10/2022 18:45

I was thinking about all the things that have come from Stonewall:

  • do they stand by their campaign for:

"Judicial clarity of ‘sex by deception’ cases to define the legal position on what constitutes sex by deception based on gender, and to ensure trans people’s privacy is protected."

As per their "A VISION FOR CHANGE
Acceptance without exception for trans people 2017-2022" document on p32, which has since been unlinked from their page but archived by others?

  • how specifically do they plan to engage with "women's groups" and which ones? Given their public support for self-ID in Scotland, what will they say to women's groups and how do they plan to interact with them in future?
  • do they stand by their schools resources, including the EYFS one which said:

“We are all assigned a sex at birth (male or female), but our gender identity is our internal sense of gender. Our gender identity may, or may not, sit comfortably with the sex we are assigned at birth”.

I have such a lot of questions really.

Well, no. What he means is he wants to stop other people from debating.

ArabellaScott · 30/10/2022 19:05

Also, FFS. I'm sorry.

ReunitedThorns · 30/10/2022 19:22

Elon buys Twitter which raises the prospect of GC views not being treated as hate and silenced, therefore these groups now want to debate in other echo chambers.
